That is the original bridge to the guitar. The original Everly Brothers guitars had the string-through, pinless bridge that was designed by Phil Everly and their father, Ike Everly. They wanted a pinless bridge because of the brothers' aggressive strumming lead to many string changes, and a pinless design enabled quicker string changes. The maltese crosses were on the J-185s. The moustache bridges are seen on the 1990s Everly Brothers models, but the original run of Everly Brothers guitars in the 1960s all had this pinless bridge.
The pin holes would wear out also I imagine. I’m the luthier for my town and all the time I have to install oversized pins or plug them then redrill them.
How does a string through work on an acoustic guitar?
I crossed one off the bucket list today, finally making it into the store. Thank you all for making my son and I feel welcome and at home. Playing a few licks on "the couch" was awesome ..... your passion for your music makes people all around the world smile!! Thanks again ..
Leave it to Mike Lemmo to play “All I Have To Do Is Dream” by the Everly Brothers as his opening song. Sweet tune Mike!
You done that guitar and the Everlys proud!
Alright lemmo… now I gotta learn that one too. Love the rendition. Always love Brandon’s passion for the guitars also.
I'm trying to find tabs but am not having any luck haha
The Everly's were at the top of the finest harmonizing duos in history since the first 2 caveman demanded dinner in unison. They had hilt after hit.
"Even" is the perfect description for this one's sound. That's a true Gem!!! Thank you for sharing this one on a lonely Father's Day Wknd. U Rock!
I love Mike’s playing.
Very unusual sounding guitar, very vintage 50s sound. Love the version of Dream by the Everly Bros. nice vibe. Thanks Jen and Michael for a great flat top Friday.
Beyond Legendarry......Dreammmmmmm
Beautiful job Michael.
To play Dream on that had such a cool vibe. The sound felt at home. I love it.
I had a '64. Same one. A real beauty, but found that all that pickguard choked out the top and it didn't sound as good as my others, so I sold it. Still have a '64 J-50. Not nearly as valuable, but the voice of God herself.
This is my dream acoustic guitar! I just got out of law school, and once I can, I am going to buy a 1963/1964 Everly Brothers guitar.
With all of these great vintage guitars lately, I can hardly wait for Straturday.
Awe'hell, It would have been so cool to HEAR Lemmo sing a verse from the first tune. But none the less, a beautiful sounding guitar. THANKS!
Very nice sound coming out of that guitar, well done.
Awesome video guys! There’s always a piece of history on guitar of the day! Bless Norman for tucking away all of these treasures! Awesome set Michael! Great video Jen! Thank you!
So much soul!
I love Lemmo. I don’t even miss Mark Agnesi
Wow super vibes with sweet clarity.... 🔥
Great song, perfect guitar for it!
Beautiful!
Just beautiful, brother. Had me singing to All I Have to Do is dream.
That’s such a vibe of a guitar
Great playing Michael!
The Everlys weren't primarily songwriters -- most of their hits were written by Nashville's prolific songwriting couple, Felice and Boudleaux Bryant.
And the Everly’s harmonies were modeled on the Louvin Brothers.
@@flyingsquirrel575 -- True, but Phil and Don were much prettier than Ira and Charlie! 😎
Of course the Louvins were inspired by previous "brother duet" acts, e.g. The Blue Sky Boys, The Delmore Brothers, and The Monroe Brothers.
Lemmo, that rendition of Dream was fantastic.
Great playing 🎉 someone is going to get a great "everything guitar".
Very nice guitar n tone . 🎸🎸🎸👍🏻
Very unusual, and rare. Only at Norm's... Peace, and love.
I have this exact same guitar a ‘63/4 in black. Mine has that exact same bridge and I got it from the original owner who said it’s never been messed with.
Yes, the Everlys made the radio greater!
Jen should be
Employee of the Month!
Good job on the Kentucky boys songs. Good sounding Gibson.
Awesome
Beautiful guitar
I want one of these guitars.
James Paul McCartney plays this guitar in his 1973 TV show. It’s in the section where Linda is doing a photo shoot with him on a stool. Wonder if he still owns it?
During confinement, Paul found this guitar in his collection. He found it so good, that he played practically all the acoustic part with his Gibson Everly Brothers on his last album, McCartney lll.
Props for the eagle’s Super Bowl jacket.
would be so happy to visit your repair shop ? should be a great video !
A COOL MELLOW WARM SPARKLE TONE
Nice song selection and u never see one in Black sweet ass guitar😊
Ok Jen, give us a "Dream" lesson
Love Hurts
Agnesi featured a '63 in 2016 but it was in (according to Mark, the more rare) natural finish.
Yes! That was one of the best sounding acoustics they’ve done on flattop Friday. The natural finished Everly Brothers models are much rarer than the black ones. The natural finish was a 1963 option only.
@@mauser98k85 I found the video from 2016 and noticed it did not have the rosewood saddle. It was white. Plastic? Bone? Here's the link:
czcams.com/video/75R9tqiCvxs/video.html
@@bobsimmons3466I’ve seen various saddle materials. Rosewood and bone most commonly.
Classic predecessor commissioned by the everly bros. Lesser known than J200. Double pickguard is a matter of taste. For me, it looks cool but puts more weight on the top. Overall, with the cool star inlays, they made the j185 their own. The tone of the j200. More usuable size. The happy medium. Norm particularly likes j185s. Hi 2 Norm and so on. theCat. Therapy ch. Etc.
a friend had one for sale years ago but I couldn't come up with the 8k he got for it. But that one has had some changes to it which take away from it's originality. But they are great strumming guitars
Sure you don’t have another ? My brother wants one too. Buskers Dream.
Whatever they pay Mr. Lemmo, it isn’t enough ;)
👌👌😎
Please review 1935 Martin d28 .
I just seen a 1968 for $22,600 online so that one's probably going to be around 26,000 I'm going to call my account right now cuz I just have to have that guitar is too beautiful just one thing I don't have an account and I don't have an extra 20 something thousand dollars laying around LOL we can dream 🤘⚡
my 63 Gibson had a plastic bridge. Most were replaced by rosewood bridges
Does someone know the second song he played? Thank you
That right! The copyright people can suck it on this one! Norm doesn't need the CZcams chump change.
What was the name of the second song he played. I know the first one was EB “dream” but the second one I can’t place. Does anyone know ?
thought it sounded like sandman, but couldn't hear the bridge.
Do anyone know the name of the second song?
Everyone is stoked or stoned?
It's legal in Cali.
Ever Lee. Lee has a few of these. Norm has the rest that the brothers don't have.
Covering the wood and double thick pickguard, trying to kill the sound and hide the wood. Really? Why?
And overspray and hidden crack repairs?
Everyone must be stoked or...
Love you Norm, Mike, Brandon, Jen , and Brothers in harm's way.
Actually guitar sounds considering .
Considering everyone must live the Stones. Their original name was the Stokes ( a little known bit if trivia).
I'd think the double guard would muffle the sound board
It does.
Nice tone. I've always hated those pickguards..... it's a huge dealbreaker for me
What songs were those? Does anyone know the names?
The first one was an Everly Brothers (surprise) called All I Have To Do Is Dream.
BRANDON ROCKS !!!!!!
Why 9 minute too short, minimal 15 minute ITS ideal video
Besides the gorgeous Gibson #EverlyBrothers Double Pickguard J-185 Guitar....#Lemmo is representing #Philly with his #Eagles #SuperBowlChamps Denim Jacket. Somebody get me a #PhillyCheeseSteak. Of course, I am a #NYGiants fan...but respect to #TheBirds. Prefer #TheEagles, as in #HotelCalifornia. HaHa.
So is it Evil Cowboy or Batman?
They inspired paul simon to form simon and garfunkle
They were a huge influence on Simon & Garfunkel...
@@mattrogers1946 bye bye love....
Still the best breakup song.
Doesn’t Billie Joe Armstrong use one of these
Yeah it’s a Billie Joe Signature which is basically modeled after the Everly Bros.
Keith Richards was using one in the 70s. Prob still has it
NI.
Elvis made it before the Everly Brothers.
Sounds muted. Maybe too much pickguard?
I love Lemmo’s playing on electric guitars. But he’s not an acoustic guitar player and it shows. Brandon or Angela P. would be a better fit for demoing acoustics. Especially because they can actually finger pick, which Lemmo doesn’t do.
I cringe when you guys do one of these. For Dog's sake, please stop showing off the guitars in that tight little space. One day, you are gonna bang one of those rare beauties against the shelves or a case clasp or something and cause it unnecessary damage. Trust me, I've been there and done that sort of thing far too many times.
Other than that, love these segments.
Anyone know the name of the second song?
