Anyone who has portrayed leading roles in glorious films and can play piano with such beauty is indeed a Renaissance Man. To be missed and neverr to be replicated by anyone else.
WOW❗... How wonderful. Words cannot do this justice. What a multi-talented man Christopher Plummer was! .. I very much enjoyed listening to this 'piece'. Thank you. RIP Christopher ❤
What an absolute legend!!! You don't get to see too many actors (or anyone else for that matter) blasting out a bit of Rach 2 while they're resetting the scene!! Brilliant!!! I love this guy!
Beautiful and how can one forget Christopher's blue eyes as he sang to Julie Andrews or played the guitar later in the film. Simply, he was just a brilliant man and to hear him improvising here is marvelous! Thank you for finding and sharing this treasure!
RIP Christopher, thanks for all the years of enjoyment given to many through wonderful performances & love and condolences to his family & friends. Bravo.
Playing Rachmaninoff is extremely difficult but to play it from memory? Fantastic! Rip I loved him as actor especially from SOMEWHERE IN TIME... So good!
What an amazing video. Thank you so much for sharing this with the world. Christopher was a person with REAL talent & versatility, in many art-forms. I wish we could hear more of this great talent. Today, they sling a guitar over their back, compose a phrase that consists of 3 chords....repeat it 800 times in 3 minutes ...& then, they call themselves singer-songwriters. How our culture has been dumbed-down that we no longer produce great versatile talents such as this...& are no longer able to hear or see beautiful music such as this presented on a regular basis on radio or television anymore.....only guitars & whiners. Thanks again . A real treat!
Oh wow, I loved the actor and now I really love the man. He was such a talented piano player ! Do you know that he plays a Rachmaninoff piano concerto which is extremely difficult, only very advanced players can handle this. You can only play this after many and many years of hard daily training. And he does play it so well and effortelssly ! No wonder why he could act so well, he knew what hard work means, he knew what art really means. I guess the more you come back in time, the more people were clever and talented. What an awful area we are living in now :(
He is even better, because the most of his play is an improvisation on theme of Rachmaninoff concerto - that means he can improvise on spot which is even more masterful than simply playing this concerto.
That ain't no "Edelweiss" peeps... that's Rachmaninov 2... very impressive for an 85 year-old Canuckian (Canuck/Canadian). I had the distinct honor of seeing Mr. Plummer decades ago alongside James Earl Jones in the Broadway production of "Othello" , as well as his daughter, Amanda, on Broadway in Agnes of God. The Gazebo scene in The Sound of Music, when Plummer first kisses Dame Julie Andrews, will be forever etched in the heart of all Humanity. Bravo!
Lovely rendition of Rachmaninov. Amazingly touching to hear this coming out of the fingers of a man who, off-screen- is more famous as a humourist than as a pianist.
This isn't just playing the piano, this is the piano being a part of Christopher Plummer. What an extraordinarily talented gentleman he was! It's saddening that he has left us.
Wow... What talent!❤️ As an actor, a singer and a pianist. Loved him from when I saw Sound of Music in the late 60's as an 8 year old kid mesmerised by the film 😊😊😊 What a man and those sexy eyes!
He comes from a very musical family - I used to play piano four hands with one of his cousins here in Montreal and another cousin of his, concert pianist Janina Fialkowska, studied at the same music school I did, Ecole Vincent-d'Indy here.
You were so lucky! And Mr Plummer to have been able to hear/see Rachmaninoff play live! I also got lucky to experience another very famous pianist VAN CLIBURN.. It was in my hometown of NOLA. I was a teenager working usherettes. That's where u usher in ppl who have paid tickets. U show them to their seats then after everyone is seated, u get to watch the same show FREE!Van Cliburn was awesome. Also got to see The Jackson Five! Wowee! Michael was around age 10 or 11
And he discovered that acting wasn’t easier at all either (from his interviews) If you’re reading this, no you’re not the only one who’s been watching a lot of Christopher Plummer interviews and videos
Also Garry Oldman in "The Immortal" plays a splendid Between. Holly Hunter in "The Piano" playing beautifully I had no ideea about Christopher Plummer. What an amazing performance. Beautiful, exceptional people.
Really thought he'll just play something like "Edelweiss".. but golly wow a piano concert improv? That's why he played the captain, not by charms but really the talent. I just realized this . . .like just. now...sad.
Wow I can't believe it's him, what an amazing pianist. After watching a movie of his I found out he trained to be a concert pianist. He could definately have been that. I think that's what made the sound of music. Both him and Andrews were both top notch musicians in their own right.
Considering how well he played it's surprising that some director didn't take advantage of it and incorporate him playing into one of his movies. I haven't seen all of his movies, so maybe there is one or two where he plays the piano, but I've seen a lot of them and he didn't play piano in any of the ones I've seen. Very talented guy.
@@Salsta1 Hopefully I'll get to see both of them some day. IMDB lists 217 acting credits for him, so I suppose there is a good chance that he played the piano in several others.
Simply amazing... what a talent. would have olved to hear him play and act in live. He is very much missed.
This video is a treasure, right down to him getting up and fading away at the end. Don't ever take it down.
Anyone who has portrayed leading roles in glorious films and can play piano with such beauty is indeed a Renaissance Man. To be missed and neverr to be replicated by anyone else.
I know... I was married to such a wonderful man!

Incredibly beautiful … you can tell he had a lyrical sensitivity that comes across in his playing.
RIP Christopher, thanks for all the years of enjoyment given to many through wonderful performances & love and condolences to his family & friends. Bravo.

One of the most charismatic, talented, beautiful and charming persons ever!!!!!

I'm guessing that time spent at the piano is another way of processing emotions and the internal workings of the mind of an actor. So, it fits.
He is even better, because the most of his play is an improvisation on theme of Rachmaninoff concerto - that means he can improvise on spot which is even more masterful than simply playing this concerto.
The dumbing down, each generation getting dumber, is engineered.

Rach 2. He studied to be a classical pianist, then, he said, found acting easier.
And he discovered that acting wasn’t easier at all either (from his interviews)

For acting to be "easier" he was super good as a pianist. 🙂
Woooow!!!!
Stunning. What talent!
Great actor, good musician, just: ARTIST!
Also Garry Oldman in "The Immortal" plays a splendid Between.
Holly Hunter in "The Piano" playing beautifully

RACHMANINOFF'S 2ND CONCERTO - MY FAVORITE - OH MY GOSH - HE PLAYED MAGNIFICENTLY.

He was a trained classical pianist in youth and kept it pretty private. Once he discovered Shakespeare there was no going back
RIP Mr. Plummer
you were an inspiration
Always admired him. We will see each other again....in Heavens.
