Many don't know the process he went through composing this piece. It was his "new" challenge at the time. He was interviewed by NHK and they filmed him during his journey in writing this piece of music. He voiced his pain in how this was unlike any challenge he had ever faced, and that playing music and writing it are completely different things. He had days of weeping and frustration, and he even questioned his qualifications as a musician. While some may comment how simple the structure of this piece is, it is subtle and subdued. Grandeur isn't always the answer to true art, and simplicity is often the language of the heart.

I understand that writing this piece for him was a difficult journey, just like the journey for the victims of the tsunami in Japan. You can here their journey in the music. It begins in a minor key and is very sorrowful, but it transitions into a major key, with the courageous promise of hope. The piece tells of a tragedy that brought out strength and character through struggle. The purpose of music is to invoke a feeling. Nobuyuki most certainly accomplished that with the composing of this beautiful piece of music. It has become one of my favorite pieces of all time.

Some of you just don't get it. Even though it isn't incredibly difficult composition it doesn't mean this piece was ordinary. This piano player can play anything you put in front of him but he created this piece in memory of a tragedy and not to awe an audience with a technical master piece. He put so much emotion into it and this was his motive. The timing, emotion, and feel are truly genius but these small yet significant facets of great piano playing are lost on those who simply would rather criticize what they do not understand.

The second he started playing I felt like I understood. I play piano, flute, guitar, and am learning violin...His feeling was so impossible to explain, the amount of passion, sorrow, greaf, and strength that was put into this piece is priceless. You can truly understand that he feels with sound, it's even more amazing since he was born blind. This made me cry so much. ❤

In English - "Still, we live on"
    In Japanese - "Soredemo ikiteyuku"
He composed for the victims of the fateful and dreadful day of March 11, 2011 in Japan. RIP

What I love about powerful activities is the determination to keep moving forward despite the inner turmoil. At one point you see him hunched over, looking like he's carrying all the suffering for which he's playing and in the face of that, he does not buckle. He keeps moving forward on a happy/hopeful note (as some have pointed out in the comments). It was a wonderful play.
