Murtry has officially crossed the line in his plan. He wasn't a full-on bad guy before now, now he's putting potential profit above not just terrorists, but everyone that isn't RCE personnel, including Earth's designated emissaries. Arguably Holden did fuck up by choosing to back the Belter's claim (not morally necessarily, but since he was told to stay the hell out of the political situation and not to take sides), but to plan on getting rid of Holden (and Amos by proxy) is a step too far. He's no longer justified in what he does. Before this everything he did could at least arguably be justified as defense of himself and/or other RCE employees -- which is his job -- and getting what he believes is justice against literal Belter terrorists on a frontier planet far away from any court.
Now? Not as much... Morty dun goofed.
Oh, I get it now. "Among the blind, the one-eyed man is king." Next episode is Holden having to save everyone by himself because he's the only one who can still see.
Amos is a puppy. He was Naomi's puppy. Then Holden moved in and it took a while but he's Holden's puppy now.... murder puppy.
Love this episode. The next 3 are my favorite though! Some of your theories are correct, but I won't say which. (: I really wish they would have included one of the lines from the book where Holden says "This is a terrible planet, we should not have come here." haha and I also really enjoy the Holden & Amos dynamic this season. It was great in the books as well. And yeah Chrisjen has been making some questionable decisions lately, but she has never had to run for office before and was more effective making moves behind the scenes.
Impressed at the "Zero Dark Thirty" sequence and how chaotic it was.

Earthers would not have cared about the "innocent children" because they were "only Belters."

That's why you should nuke every planet and kill everything. Then introduce earth organisms and plants, wait for a cpl of hundred years, et voila: new earth.
This episode sparked an interesting debate for my group of friends. Avasarala is going to eat a shit sandwich for jeopardizing the lives of those marines in order to apprehend a terrorist, yet had she taken the easy way out and nuke the ship from the outside, she would have eaten a shit sandwich for killing innocent civilians. Don't pursue the terrorist and then some pencil pusher down the road blames her weak stance on terrorism that leads to another terror attack.. Point is, being in charge sucks. As there's always a zillion little twats ready to captain hindsight all of your decisions and just conveniently ignore the fact that you were in a no win situation.

This season is revealing Avasalara's problems that weren't dangerous in the first three seasons. Avasalara is not a politician, she's a bureaucrat. She doesn't consider or understand how the population reacts to decisions. She has no compassion for the millions of Earthers who want a chance at a new future and doesn't realize that "no" can't be the final answer. She also doesn't know how to operate in an alliance with politically equal partners, the OPA and Mars. Her "no" can't be the final answer for them, either, particularly since she gave mining rights to the Earth corporation RCE. She gives handouts to corporations and gives nothing to common folk. Remember that they have sent out hundreds of probes that have not found a problem. People who have no hope where they are will force the risk. Her prejudice against Belters blinds her to the possibility that they may be smarter than she is (they know Earthers better than Earthers really know them), so she underestimates their intelligence and resolve, and overestimates Earth's "shock and awe" capability. The fact is, Avasalara is actually a nasty person. We ignored it before because she happened to be on the right side (and also because she's so fly). But she's not on the right side now.
At the beginning of the season, first episode, they made a big deal of showing Holden taking his anti-cancer meds. Just saying.
Why the little spoiler at the end? I know you have good intentions but seriously... Some things maybe point out after they react to it...
It should also be added this is still the start of her book arc whether she really has much growth with what's left of her arc is debatable but the other characters also started out rough around the edges like Holdon and Amos relationship.

1. She makes decisions born from options given to her by people whose jobs it is to give them. It's not chess or league of legends. She's in a game that "NO ONE...not even belters or the OPA or Mars" knows that is being played. Has nothing to do with her thinking she is smarter than anyone.
2. How exactly do belters know earthers better than earthers know belters?
3. Avasarala isn't on the right side? lol lol lol ***Edit*** you mean she isn't being cautious sending waves upon waves of pioneers through the gates without getting a better handle on what is actually happening or has happened on these planets...oh right!
I'm very late, but... You missed a lot about Ava. Also yes, she's not always right, but we known that from day one, literally the first ep. But there's also situations of no win and if she were that nasty as you said, she wouldn't send the UN marines/soldiers to board, the option which puts earthers in danger. She's very careful because of eros, war and alien ending shenanigans.
Both points make sense, Gao and Avara are reasonable.

I think the slugs reek of "filler episode" but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It feels like a Stargate episode.

Chrisjen Avasarala curses worse then peasant from the gutter and She suppose to be top politician and eloquent for that matter ? Every scene with her is cringe worthy
Someone who cusses a lot can also speak carefully and eloquently. I have personal experience doing that. She doesn't cuss like that publicly either. She also didn't get elected to be top politician; she had a non-elected series of jobs where she was rarely ever seen in the public eye, and then the top politician was arrested, and so she filled the position because she was next in line.
