      And people say they don't like this season. I love it. They just keep putting more and more stress on our characters so we see what they're made of. Arguably season 5 is even better for character development, but this season really does so much to our favorite characters. This season is certainly more important than one and two, and for some characters, more than three. The overall stakes may seem smaller, but the personal stakes are bigger.

    The Protomolecule wouldn't know about life that developed on Illus since the Builders were wiped out, so I wouldn't think Proto-Miller was doing anything to help him.
    Earther voters wouldn't have cared about the Belter deaths, Gao wouldn't even have mentioned it, and it could have been claimed a victory long enough to get through the election. But the voters would care about the UN Marine deaths. As Avasarala had said earlier, having Marco's head on a spike is what she needed for her campaign, and that's the only reason she went for the chance to get her hands on Marco, dead or alive.
    Except for the Protomolecule machines (which we the audience know it's because of the Protomolecule on the Roci), Illus hasn't proven more dangerous than Earth. There are plenty of deadly slugs and microbes on Earth.

  • @TheDetailsMatter

    Was Marco ever aboard the Pizzouza? The image of him was supplied by someone with one of those camera-eye implants. Maybe it was doctored. Marco could have rigged the drive to blow on command, but the drive was taken out by a railgun round. But Marco doesn't do anything without a backup plan. Anticipates a boarding action, rigs a mining nuke in the cargo bay to a heart monitor worn by someone among the passengers. Doesn't transfer to a ship, just puts on a suit and dives out an airlock. Puts himself on the drift with no active beacon, the UN Navy doesn't even notice him. Once they board, it's just a matter of time until some dogface gets trigger happy. Boom. Thus ends the treaty, and Crisjen's career with it, and Marco's vow to the factions to be a good little boy until the Inners inevitably break the treaty. A shipful of Belters incinerated by Inners for no apparent reason. And so it begins.
    Where did the killer slugs come from? Slugs are soil-dwellers, but the soil is underwater at the moment. They found their way into the ruins through the root infiltrates that Miller originally dragged Holden out of bed to get rid of. Since then they've been climbing to stay ahead of the flooding waters.
    The slugs actually represent a couple of business opportunities. As an exotic alien sweetmeat (properly cooked or chemically treated to neutralize the toxin) exported to earth as a delicacy.
    Or, as a weapon. On a world practically made of lithium, but deficient in sulfur and saltpeter, eventually there's going to be a gunpowder shortage. Bullets will be a thing of the past. The murder industry will have to limp along with modified slingshots using toxic gastropods as ammo. The term "slug-throwers" will take on a whole new meaning.

    While everyone else is offering up suggestions for new series to react to, here are mine: There are a couple of older series few if any have reacted to. "Person Of Interest" (5 seasons), which is modern-day sci-fi dealing with AI and the growing total surveillance state. Or "Heroes" (3 seasons), a modern day urban fantasy revolving around normal people spontaneously developing super-powers. And "The Middleman" (1 season) tongue-in-cheek comedy fantasy adventure about a secret hero organization and it's newest apprentice.

    I *hate* that the show snuck this money motivation for Murtry into the show. That was not part of him in the books, he really thought he was doing the right thing and protecting his people. One of the best things about The Expanse is you can understand every villain, you can look at it from every antagonists viewpoint and see how they think they're the hero of their own story. The whole 1% if the Lithium take was just kind of dumb.
    Thankfully they kind of ignore it from here out.

    While I think Chrisjen only had bad options, she still picked the "high risk, high reward" one. Her other options were to destroy the ship right away or (which wasn't given by the general but it should have) give them a chance to surrender before taking such drastic measure.

    • @YouHaventSeenMeRight
      @YouHaventSeenMeRight Před 2 lety

      They would still have to board to check for Marco, so the outcome would have been the same: The ship blows up with the marines on board and the destruction would have been blamed on the UN. Marco set the perfect trap in order to assign blame to the UN and they walked right into it. It would probably have been better to track the flight plan and arrest Marco when he had to disembark, but I guess the UN was afraid that he would be able to escape after docking.

Even Gao expressed that attitude when she pointed out that the UN could get away with blowing up Belter colony ships at the Ring blockade, but not Earther colony ships. Avasarala could have simply blown up the ship and possibly solved the "Marco problem" with no political repercussions. But as she'd earlier said, she needed Marco's "head on a pike" to assure her re-election...that was pure politics.
