Naren said they deliberately left the Laconia plot hanging so that if someone else decides to continue the show, they would have a plot thread to start with because there's quite a bit of the story left.

The second part of the book series is as big if not bigger then what they portrayed in the TV series. There's a lot more to be told.
Ty Franck (the writer of the books and one of the producers) said that The Expanse has always struggled on cable, but pulls top number on streaming services. He says that this is one of the struggles of the show - it has a hard time attracting viewers, but once it gets them, they're hardcore supporters of the show.
This is my favorite series of all time, it is a shame it is not more recognized. It is simply an amazing adaptation of great source material. Books 7-9 truly bring the story full circle. My understanding is that the creators are contractually limited to bring the series to completion (Amazon has the rights for while, Alcon has rights, etc.), but it is a hot potato that will not be forgotten. It will take a minute, but I fully expect to see more Expanse in the future.
@@gerardlacroix6015 I don’t love that the final season was limited, and I wish I had another season of good times, but honestly getting mad at Amazon on this is probably not productive. I have gleamed every bit of what I can re: Expanse,. and I think it is a matter of negotiation at this point. Alcon has rights, Amz has rights, and we are a fan base. Be patient, but loud:)

From what I've heard, there's no budget for seasons 7-9. The showrunners and actors would like to, but it's one of those "wouldn't it be nice" things. Besides, even ignoring the 30 year time gap, the last three books get _weird_
steven strait said something about this episode that always stuck with me: Holden starts the show rejecting a job offer out of immaturity, and ends the show rejecting a job offer out of maturity
They definitely included the Laconia stuff as a way for them to continue the story if they could get someone else to pick up the show. I'm honestly in two minds as to whether I want them to continue it though as what comes after in the books is quite different. On the other hand we'll never get to see one of the most bad ass moments of the entire book series.

the actress Cara Gee made that shit her own. Once the writers realized she could carry it they made a new character that transitioned from short cut filler role into a new grounded character
I remember having The Expanse recommended to me years ago, but since I was catching up on Star Trek: TNG at the time, I never got around to it. When season 4 was being promoted on Amazon, it clicked that I had been recommended the show before, so I decided to give it a go. And I am so glad I did! One of the best binge watches I have ever done, for the series that I can now say is not just my favourite sci-fi show of all time, but my favourite show of all time, period. The visuals, the characters, the plot, the relevance to our present world, the dialogue, all contributed to make this an all-around epic masterpiece!
Also want to commend the brilliant reactions! Love how committed y’all were to this show and not holding back on your emotions, your theories, and your thoughts. It was great getting to relive the show with y’all!
Finally, I definitely need to know what’s happening next, so now that the series is over, I will be diving into the books once I’m able to buy them!

As one of the OG's who constantly commented that you should react to The Expanse, I'm very happy you guys started and love how much you love and enjoy the show. I strongly recommend reading the books if you have time.
On a separate note, this finale was amazing and holy crap the dialog written for Holden and Drummer in that negotiating post-War (for the Transport Union President role) is ELITE tier. It gave me goosebumps it was so good.
Had my doubts, that they were leaving too much stuff to tie up in the finale, but they really brought it home!

For anyone who feels compelled to go read the books, I highly recommend the audio books narrated by Jefferson Mays. They are fantastic and it's a super convenient way to consume the books
And you could start with book 7 if you want. There is enough of a break in the narrative that it’s similar to starting a new series. You have to be prepped for the alternative history of the books (people still alive who died in the series, people who died but in a different way, slightly different sets of facts, etc.)

Ty and Daniel showed every other show out there than main characters don't have to die to make a good season finale. They did give us a situation where it looked like they were going to die.
Naomi clicking the button knowing it would kill her son is what one of the hard-core badassaries scene I have seen, I love how they gave us a mother that even though she loved her son, she thought of the greater good first.
This season finale made me cry for 10 different reasons
When you rewatch it, you may notice that it was a setup between Holden and Drummer to steer them to that conclusion. It was the only way to maneuver to get Drummer in the position.
Drummer's character arc is so great! I love how they wrote her, and how Cara Gee acted it out.

Just binged this whole react playlist, it was fun to relive the show again with the Normies. That was like a 5 year journey for y'all. Good vibes. Whenever I have nothing new to watch I just rewatch this.
If any Normie admin reads this, yo. Some of your react playlists, like this one, are missing episodes or have them out of order. I know HotD and The Expanse for sure, but also Andor and Arcane I think as well. Not a big deal to just go find them but kinda defeats the purpose of a playlist.

Started watching the series during early Covid. Now after watching the final season i am just happy & sad at the same time. It was a wonderful journey.
My favorite show of the last decade or more, one of the best shows of all time, IMO, and they managed to stick the landing. I wish we could have gotten seasons 7-9, but this was a great ending if we had to stop here. Maybe they will come back one day, and I'll be right there for it, and I know y'all will too. Very much enjoyed the reaction series, it's actually what brought me to your channel! The Expanse is what got me into watching reactions in general, I just love the show so much and have run out of friends to introduce it to so I enjoy seeing strangers' reactions too.
Sad the Expanse journey is over (hopefully only for now), but I really enjoyed this reaction. The editing was great! Looking forward to the book club and podcast!
Take note HBO. This is how you write a shortened, final season.
To be fair, the books were already written for the Expanse and the book writers worked closely with the show runners throughout the series. Game of Thrones on the other hand had no source material to base of off. And George RR Martin stopped working on the show after the 4th season. He did so he could focus on finishing the 6th book, but obviously that didn't happen.

Highly recommend the books, and you definitely should start from the beginning, as Micky said there are significant differences. People that die in one and not in the other, people that don't even exist in one or the other. They combine multiple story lines or personalities in some cases. The major plot points are the same/similar but you would be really confused if you don't start from the beginning.
Also the novellas...and maybe even the comics, but definitely the novellas.
I just did a rewatch of the entire show, and I still feel owed so now I am going through a rewatch of the reactions and I have to say yours are one of the best out there, I love seeing your love and reactions to this spectacular show.
I've been privileged to be along for the ride for three of the greatest shows ever made with the Normies crew: Mr. Robot, Dragonball Z Abridged, and now The Expanse. It has been an honor to watch this show (on my own, gotta support the official release) and then watch your reaction to it. It has been a ride, boss mang. Salud!

Thank you for your Expanse reactions. I've enjoyed them so much! I think particularly this one. I waited three days after the finale aired before I watched it because I didn't want it to end, then I cried through most of it due to the excitement and just plain awesomeness it brought me. The characters are so real to me now and it's really hard to let go of them. If I had to pick a favorite, I sincerely couldn't. But I do feel that if more of us were like Holden, the world would be a much better place. I'm almost done reading the 9th book, Leviathan Falls. God help me.

It's funny how Suraj realizes that Marco isn't on the ship that gets hit because they're not showing him but totally misses the (imo) way more obvious tell that Filip is still alive for the same reasons.
Oh wow saw Nahid for like a second at the beginning and was like, wait he's back??
I love how after all the action in this show the finale moment that had everyone screaming and Rana jumping out of her seat is a job position announcement of a press conference...
Small trivia, all the names of the people participating in that railgun battle are references to othe SciFi properties, like commander Shepard from Mass Effect or Ripley from Aliens
Anyone else notice that the series is bookended with the destruction of ice-hauling ships?

There's unlikely to be any further shows as much as I'd love there to be. So here's a summary of what happens to Philip after these events.
When he leaves he changes his surname to Nagata after his mother. They never meet again.
He's very traumatised by what he's done and been part of and this unresolved past is always stalking him.
We see his character in a short story about 30 years after the death of his dad by the ring entities. We find him on a planet with a small colony. The gate rings have collapsed and like all the other colonies and Sol system they are completely cut off from the nearest star system with other humans by countless light years.
The colony is lead by the daughter of the white lady who's a pastor and Amos said he'd protect when things kicked off on medina between drummer's faction and Ashford's faction.
The colony is about 300 people and they're coming to terms with that they are completely alone that their current tech won't last long, that they'll need to start having children etc if they're to carry on.
Philip kills a guy because the guy is trouble and will take over by force for his own ends.
The story was the last in series of small stories and is between the end of the last book and the epilogue set 1000 years in the future.....
A great ending. It tied up most of the loose ends and left just enough that the door is open for more.
I am so thrilled to have been an audience member, a small part of your journey with this show.

There's a 30 year gap between book 6 and 7. Laconia arc is the main focus of books 7-9. They have the protomolecule sample, the scientist, and the ability to manufacture state of the art railguns and god knows what else based on PM tech. What do you think they're going to do for 30 years behind their locked door?

I have been with the Normies since you started The Expanse. You were my first reactors and I loved every minute of every episode! I went through the cancellation with you and the resurrection. Thank you so much for helping all of us get through some tough times, especially these last two years! We've come a long way, guys. Started watching you reacting to Expanse just before the Amazon campaign and now we're here. It's been a hell of a time, y'all.
Oh, guys. Books 7, 8 and 9. Just do it. If we do get another 3 seasons, reading the books first won't spoil it. I promise. Book 8 is ridiculously good. Made me laugh, scream and cry...sometimes all at the same time. I had to put it down for a minute a couple of times and give myself a moment to recover.
What a journey....
You can totally dive into Book 7 after this, you don't have to read Books 1-6 to know what's going on. The differences between the books and the series were pretty much smoothed out by this point. The only major difference is that Alex is still alive in the books. Book 7 opens 20 or 30 years later, and Drummer is still President of the Transport Union, just like we see her at the end of this episode. Apart from a few throwaway remarks (like, Fred Johnson died in the books from stroking out rather than a gunshot), it flows pretty smoothly from where the show left off.

I just finished the show and wow, what a ride! My only qualm in the last episode is making Bobbie their new pilot. Pilots, like Alex usually stays on the ship and with Bobbie's combat experience, and this crew's penchant for trouble, they need her on the ground. But then what other use can they have her on the ship?
7:38 I did that as well for this episode. Just cranked up the volume and sat back with my eyes closed. Masterful series, awesome music. Also. that shot of the Pella dropping its disguise, damn, like a T-Rex in sheep's clothing.
You guys have always been my favorite Expanse reactors. I will miss your vids. I think that in time the show will continue so I will stay subscribed. Oh, watch the end credits all the way through!

Hard to believe this is the end. Possibly my favorite show ever. Definitely my favorite fandom. Expanse fans are THE BEST. I remember watching your reactions on Syfy where you had to wait through commercials, LOL. I remember those save the expanse days, signing the petitions, watching the show on two different formats to try to improve their numbers in some small way.
I hope the rest of the books get adapted in some form. I would just read them now but I'm afraid to start because I think something might get made. It's been a hell of a ride, glad I could take it with you guys. Peak television!

I have skipped out on so many series finales and final seasons I have lost count of the shows I need to finish.
The Americans, Orphan Black, Sons of Anarchy, Mr Robot, Outlanders and True Blood...just to name a few I thought of off the top. I really do feel a sense of loss at these times.
*I wished I had skipped the final season of GoT...maybe I would still like rewatching the earlier seasons if I had.---it ruined it all for me*
I could be wrong but I believe the current information we have and community assumption is that had The Expanse continued on Amazon it would have had a reduced budget and the actors (and even the cut that Alcon gets) wouldn't be getting paid nearly enough to warrant continuing. They had a natural stopping point and they said that when working with Amazon since Amazon saved them. The assumption now is that they will at some point shop the show or more likely multiple movies around to get a good budget and fair pay so they can finish up the rest of the adaptation for the fans and for the profit.
The Expanse episode 7-9 20-30 years later I'm disappointed y'all didn't think of that immediately... Chris this is why blind Wave defeated you... Anyways I just finished expanse yesterday love you guys so much I watch more shows about yall
@1:30 - lol - Skipping the last episode is like not replying to the text from your girlfriend about her "wanting to talk" and blocking any further calls or texts. You can just go around believing you're still together.

Seriously if you actually listen to what is being said in the beginning you would not be assuming that Xan is just going to attack and kill. Every thing he said showed that he has concern for his sister still, and still wants affection from his parents. He got sliced and you guys just can't stop yourselves from thinking he is only dangerous.

What an incredible season finale this was. I really enjoyed watching your reactions to it. I don't really know anyone else who watches the show so it allowed me to enjoy it with other people. :)
If they are going to continue this series, due to the 30 year time skip between books 6 and 7 they may just be waiting for the acutal actors to age up (not the full 30 years. But maybe like 5-10). That way they don't have to 1) digitaly age the actors up, which will cost a lot of money. Or 2) get new actors which look older, but that would just be kinda weird and these actors have really become these roles so it wouldn't be great.
If they wait that long won't they need to re-cast Cara and Xan, seeing as they aren't exactly aging up in the story?
There's a 28 year time jump in the books after this point. So how would they continue? Do they age everyone with CGI or hire completely new older actors?
