  • In this video we're showing how basic PAS sensors are configured on the latest V3.1 Cycle Analyst firmware. We've got a 24 pole mini PAS sensor on an ebike build and are adjusting the bike for automatic PAS power levels from 0-800 watts of assist.
    This process is somewhat different from the earlier V3.0 firmware setup.
    Apologies in advanced for the inconsistent audio, we will one of these days get a lapel microphone.
    For more detailed information, have a look at the CA3 info page and user manuals.

    I have the Grin 24 pole PAS using CA 3.14 and Baserunner v4... I installed the PAS on the right side (crank side) so the wiring is a bit cleaner going into the frame. Pedaling backwards set to Reverse works but setting to Forward I only get a 'pulse' of motor help at best. Do I have to remove the cranks and switch to other side? Hoping there is an easier way.

    I got your SX2, V3 Cycle Analyst and Multifunction Switch Assy CA3_MFSwitch, I tried to follow these instructions so I'd have more steps for smaller Pedal Assist increments, that worked great, but now the analog throttle seems to be limited to the power level of the PA setting, so if I'm set to 100W pedal assist, full throttle will get me 100W. IDK what I did wrong, do you have any suggestions re: how I can fix it? The throttle worked normally before that.

      You set the Digi Aux limit function to Power Limit, rather than PAS Level. Change the Digi Aux function to PAS Level and your throttle response will be unaffected.

    I assume one is able to adjust the speed at when the assist is cutting off, or? Is it possible to have a smooth transition from full power to no power when reaching speed limit for the assist?

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  Před 5 lety

      You can set a speed limit in the speed limit settings and then the PAS power will automatically scale back as you are at that limit speed, yes. There is a set of PID control terms to help tune the limit value. At the moment there isn't a separate PAS speed limit different from the general speed limit though if that is what you were asking, but if you use the PAS assist mode of Basic (ThO) with a typical controller, then each PAS assist level is effectively a speed target rather than a power target.

      Does it mean that I can program the assist to gradually lower the power so that it isn't being cut of from 100% to 0% at a certain speed?
      For example:
      100% power from 0 to 25 km/h
      50% power at 28 km/h
      0% power at 30 km/h and above

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  Před 5 lety +1

      @@AlveHenricson If you have a typical ebike motor controller, then yes this is effectively what throttle voltage limiting does. It's not explicitly set as speed target. If say your bike does 40 kph no load at full throttle, then if you have a PAS (ThO) set to 75% throttle, it will have 0% power at 30 kph and above, then progressively more power below 30 kph.

    I have 1 question: I have a varied Width PAS (1 wire) when I setup the PASD dir. Polarity on Fwd it detects
    rotation on both directions, the CA can not difference forward from reverse, and when I setup it on Rev the CA don't detect rotation at all, is there a setup to fix this?

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  Před 2 lety

      No, there is no firmware support for the asymetric pulse width PAS sensors. They seem to be quite uncommon and more of a relic of ebikes from the early 2000's. Your best bet is just to replace the pickup sensor with one that does the proper quadrature encoding.

    How do run two aux inputs simultaneously? Plug the second into the throttle plug?

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  Před 5 lety

      You need one digital aux and one analog aux device. The digi-aux has dual male + female JST plugs on it so that when you have both, you then plug the analog aux into the spare connector on the digi-aux harness. The throttle plug should only be used for the actual throttle.

    Hi!
    I have a huge problem with my fresh built ebike. Downt know anyone who can help me so I just post it here and hope to get some tips. I have CA v3 sabvoton controller and cyc motors x1pro engine. Also I have 5v 3pin twist throttle and 5v 3PIN PAS sensor what came with an engine. It has 26poles and rpm sensor. So I connected it to CA ground and+5v from aux input. Signal wire i took from pas sensor plug yello wire for rpm. I connected everything and follow guide from website how to set up CA by going throught menues and setting values. But when I connect CA to my controller then engine starts to spinn. Even when throttle on pas sensor wires are not connected it spins. I have tried to change settings of shunt, throttle and so on but nothing seems to help.

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  Před 5 lety

      You should look at the throttle output settings. This isn't PAS related behavior but it means that even when the CA's throttle output is at the minimum, your controller still thinks it is receiving a throttle command. If the controller expects a potentiometer style throttle then that would explain it. Try going right down to 0V for the min throttle output.

    hey GT, are you able to connect the cycle analyst to a high power system for a high powered EV using that shunt?

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  Před 5 lety

      You can definitely use the CA with high power EV systems when you use a suitably sized shunt, I'm not quite sure which one you are referring to here. The Stand Alone CA shunt is good for systems that do up to 50A continuous and 100A peak, while the larger 0.5 mOhm shunt is good for about 100A continuous and 200A peak, and the 0.25 mOhm shunt is suited for double that again.

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  Před 7 měsíci

      Yes the throttle power is totally independent of the PAS power setpoint

    • @GrinTechnologies
      @GrinTechnologies  Před rokem +1

      You can adjust them with a potentiometer if you prefer continuous adjustments, or you can use mode presents and have 3 different presets each with a different PAS level and then change between them via a 2 button press of the main CA screen.
