Gaming Chair VS Ergonomic Chair? Which Should You Get?

  • Have you been considering a gaming chair vs. an ergonomic style office chair?
In today's video I share my opinion on differences between the DXRacer OH/IF11/NR vs. the Autonomous ErgoChair 2.
In November of 2015 around Black Friday I finally decided to take the plunge on getting myself a gaming chair. I retired my old cheap Staples office chair and was super excited for what was to come.
I found over the last 3 years I've definitely had more issues with back pain and overall posture.
While I can't blame this entirely on the DxRacer chair I just found for me, the aesthetic looks of a gaming chair were not worth the sacrifice for something that would help support my back and posture.
While most gaming chairs are large, look awesome, and have tons of adjustments they are not exactly made for comfort.
This past year I decided to finally pickup an Ergonomic chair from Autonomous, the Ergochair 2.
Personally the built in lumbar support, neck rest and mesh back make this a better choice for me.
Doing core/back strength exercise combined with switching over to this chair I've noticed a large improvement in my day to day life when it comes to back pain.
I'd say if you are only gaming or at the computer for up to 3-4 hours a day, a gaming chair is perfect for you.
If you spent 8+ hours a day behind a desk, do yourself a favor and pickup the Ergochair 2.
As someone who works full time from home at a desk all day and spends nights gaming at the PC, it's an absolute must have.

Have you seen the Altwork Station? I have one and it by far is the best all-around workstation I have used. It's not just a "chair" which is what I like and doubles as a stand-up desk. I use it for gaming as well as 8-12 hours a day working in it.

Ergo chair all the way. I have an ergo at work, and I bought a gaming chair for home several years ago and didn't like it. Gaming chairs just don't work for me because they don't conform to my body. I think positive reviews for gaming chairs are inflated because they're mostly used by young people who don't have back problems or aches and pains to worry about. So they probably aren't really going to care about comfort as much. As I get older, having a comfortable chair is more and more important.

Im Young (24) never had one of these gaming chairs. I had an executive chair which was incredible but the feet broke. However, every time i tried one of these "gaming chairs" i never liked them because they were very stiff. I dont have perfect posture and i slouch a lot, but i sit on a chair for a very long time so one of these ergonomic chairs is worth it. People buy the gaming chairs mostly because of looks because they dont really offer anything special in terms of quality. Thats the only plus the guy in the video was able to show as well

The ergochair is not comfortable at all to sit in for long hours. You will need to stand up after an hour due to tailbone pain. Yes it helps you sit more straight. However that cushion is very thin and bottoms out very easily to the point where you feel the piece of plywood the thin foam is stapled to. I prefer a gaming chair for actual gaming and office chair for productivity. When you game you do not think about sitting properly anyway; you are glued to the screen. It is more ideal to have both or use a higher end office chair with better cushion for every day.

Iv had a DXracer seat for 4 years. They are hard as hell and give you a sore bottom. You can get up from them and feel really stiff. Your back can’t breath as the back of the chair is solid so you sweat. The plastic arm rests start falling apart pretty quickly as well and the base of the chair wobbles. I injured my back last year and sitting in the gaming chair just aggregates the pain now.
I’m investing in a ergo seat. Thing is I had one before the gaming chair and I have no bad memories of it, I think I just brought into they hype of having a bucket seat chair.

@@HighDollar17 I think it's great! The assembly was simple enough, and there are endless levers to make every detail you could possibly want exactly to your liking. I can't imagine what else I could ask from it... I built a desk that can go up and down so that I could stand every so often, but since I've gotten the chair, I haven't felt the need to stand up at all. I don't have any conditions with my back or anything, so I can't speak for that, but it does not give me any soreness. Love the mesh on the back because I tend to sweat more than most and it keeps me about as cool as I could ask. No qualms aside from the learning curve of trying to figure out which configurations suit your back best... Small adjustments require I relearn a lot of levers. If something is slightly off, you can obviously get uncomfortable over time.

Depends. About a week ago I watched a lot of videos about chairs, one was the ErgoChair 2. I dumped DXRacer quickly, as I've read a lot of comments about it going for the looks and less for quality. If you're looking at gaming chairs, you should primarily focus on SecretLab Titan or Noblechair, maybe AKRacing. The Titan came out as a winner for me with the fabric cover, Noblechair makes only leather. I simply don't like sitting on leather (synthetic or true) for extended periods.
There were actually quite a few complaints about the ErgoChair, so it isn't perfect either. But I had the notion that the SecretLab Titan had overall better reviews. It costs also more though.
However, if you prefer the mesh over the leather/fabric, then the choice is clearer.
As for the Herman Miller Aeron... yeah, $400 vs $1400, sorry but no, not paying +$1000 and not buying it used without knowing whose buttocks graced its seat before. It also has no headrest.

After watching many vids and reading reviews on gaming/office chairs I just pulled the trigger on the Autonomous Ergo Chair 2. I'm a big guy, 6'2" and 320 lbs and have gone through 5 gaming and office chairs in the last 2 years at great expense. I've purchased various gaming/office chairs ranging in price from $150 all the way up to $700 and have yet to find one that lasts more than 6 months. I'm in my office chair working 12+ hours every day of the week so having a reliable, comfortable and functional chair is a must. What I'm looking for is a sturdy upright chair with a solid tilt mechanism that doesn't fail after a few months use. A height adjustment cylinder that doesn't fail after 6 months use. Good solid casters that won't break the base where they are attached. Comfortable adjustable lumbar support that won;t kill my back. After watching your review I just placed my order for the Autonomous Ergo Chair 2. I'll get back to you in 6 months and see how it works out. Thanks for your honest review and I'm looking forward to receiving this new chair. Cheers!

I used a nice gaming chair with a back massager and a head rest and slide out foot rest for a year and it destroyed my back at the computer. Switched to a 60$ ergo chair and my back is soooooo extremely happy. Plus this ergo chair is super light weight, where the other chair (around 200$), I had to use my entire body weight to push the chair back and forth. I am also short, but in the ergo chair I do not have to get up to adjust anything on the chair. The gaming chair I was too short to reach the levers underneath and could not adjust the height back up without standing all the way out of the chair (due to my height not so much my weight but it made me feel fat which is just an added lameness).

Gaming chair pillows are like slabs of freaking concrete, and they tend to be directly straight - next to no support, especially if you don't use the pillows. I have a specialist chair that was designed by a physiotherapist which is great for all day use. At the time over 10 years ago cost over £750 or around $1000, I know you can get chairs cost way less, as you spend lots of time sitting, sleeping and on your feet. I have been using a well padded office chair at home for about 10 years. It isn't high enough to support my head. It is also too low even in its highest position. It is comfortable until I get up and find that my knees have been stuck at a 60 degree angle for two hours. I've considered modifying it myself, but it would not look good. So I'm in the market for a new chair. I've been considering a gaming chair because they "look" comfortable. They are new and the latest and greatest. So they must be the best kind, right? I need to sit in one before I buy it. But the problem I have is that there isn't even one of any brand in a store within 75 miles of me. It is not possible to sit in one to try it out. It looks like I have to buy one online based on online reviews by people with different body builds. • @ToyznFamily
    @ToyznFamily Před 3 lety

I have both a secretlabs titan and autonomous ergochair2. The ergochair2 bottom seat foam bottoms out. You fill the base of the chair in less than 15 min sitting on it. The build quality is cheaper than the titan. However you can modify the seat cushion by removing the base and taking off the cover and getting a firmer foam and thicker one. The titan is very nice build quality, better than the ergochair2. I bought because I thought it would have the feel of a good chair that you sit in a car. However it’s not comfortable or doesn’t have the feel of a car chair. The foam is too firm. You can sit on it for maybe an hour then your legs start to lose circulation. Also gaming chairs don’t have that dynamic recline that ergonomics chairs have which I use a lot. Gaming chairs you have to pull the lever to recline. The Titans recline isn’t even comfortable because the lower back arches your back in an uncomfortable way. I would say stock the titan is a better chair due to the ergochair2 seat is bad quality foam and it bottoms out. It may looks thick in pictures but it’s not firm enough to support someone long term. However if you do some mods to the ergochair2 then it’s better than the titan and many other chairs I sat on including the Herman Miller Aeron, but still not the perfect chair because of some things too long to mention here. Also the titan cannot be returned so you’re relying on CZcams reviews that have bees sponsored by secretlabs which got me on buying one myself.

I just got my ergo chair today, it works perfectly and supports my weight, but when I sit on it it sinks like 1 or 2 cm and stays there, is that normal?

Really wanted the ergochair2 because my current chair has a broken mesh and therefore doesn’t support my back at all and as you can probably tell I have backpain like I’m 60 at age 16 but my mom told me it’s kinda out of our price range and it won’t get delivered here in less than 3 months. :|

You didn't say anything about the dx race wings and how are forcing you to adopt a straight position, while the office chair pretty much let you stay in any position you want.

DO NOT get a 'racing' chair. They look amazing, but are so horrible. I like how the back rest goes up to my head level. The backs of the chairs curve forward around the area of your shoulder blades. You naturally slouch in them. Especially when you want to strsighten the chair for your bsck. You NEED to lean the chair back to feel some sort of comfort, but then your lower bsck as a lot of pressure on it bcuz of the angle. It fcn sucks to have back pain there. Especially between shoulder blades. Feels like a heart attack. Lumbar pillows do nothing smh
It also depends on what kind of chair you get. My personal recommendation: Get an 'office chair' bcuz those are designed for comfort and long periods of sitting. Gaming chairs look cool, but are horribley designed for comfort. Unless of course you spend obsurd prices on the decent quality ones. Like $399 for a chair that can do this
Chairs like that are not worth it, unless you got a too much money then go ahead. They're simply nothing more than fancy over priced junk. I have more than enough money for them, and I will never pay that price. Bcuz screw them. And bcuz I'll never pay a ridiculous price for anything, idc how good the products are. Acception of PC's. PC's are over priced for what they offer, but you need them smh. You can wait weeks/months or maybe even years for sales or prices to go down

DX Racer King will start peeling in several places after 2 years, it will look bad, I know since I am covering up my chair atm and looking for a new one, this was inspite of using a nice big cusion and clothes and never putting my bare skin on the chair, so it's peeling from age and that's bad.

Can confirm, mine started coming apart after 2 years as well, even though I tried my best to take care of the fake leather.

Bro love the concept of the video, but a 3+ year old chair for your subject matter is a bit outdated, I'd love it if you had a corsair t3 or the new noblechair epic black, for your gaming chair, then compared it to a high end ergo.

I agree this is a fair point but I figured now a days these 'gaming chairs' are everywhere with what can now be tough to see what's different from each brand. I think the lesson really is to get something comfortable vs. looks.

Good comment. I want a ergo office chair but the selection I have in my remote area is minimal compared to gaming chairs. Looking at New Nobelchair Epic black actually haha.
I had a steelcase leap V2 a few years ago and that chair is amazing.
