I bought one MSRP @ $1,200. I've had them replaced twice due to 1) a cylinder failure and 2) a seat tear, but it cost me nothing both times, and it's still an awesome chair. In hindsight, I do wish I picked something with slightly more plush because I am a heavy guy, but this chair was worth every penny.
The things I'd like but know what chairs out there offer it:
      1. Plushier seat because my tailbone hurts sometimes
      2. Wider armrest base
      3. Definitely a headrest because I've fallen asleep in this thing so many times, and being 6 foot with no headrest is ass.
      4. An overall wider chair/seatpan because I definitely fill this thing in, and I don't feel much freedom to sit differently.

Haworth's new Breck at $400 or so might be a pretty good deal, we need the Chairiffs to give it a review. Also I'd like to see if the Amia Air backrest is good, and if it's worth it to get the lumbar support option for it. Thumbs up!

Interestingly the Colamy chairs have crept into the UK and Europe, and still at the same price band around £228. It would be interesting to find midrange like the OM Yes this side of the water. Even under a different rebranding - but I can't find it oemed by anyone. Keeping an eye out for refurbished Steelcase but I think too many offices are already WFH (or cheap), so volume is low.
A interesting observation is that posture gurus seem to say that when actively working you need pelvic support but your mid-back upwards is unlikely to touch the chair. Which is hugely different from how most people sit, slump or hunch.

I'm also a Colamy owner. It's hard to argue against the value for the money give the price, but I would have liked to see a larger seat cushion. Many office chairs have a big enough cushion that I can sit cross-legged in them if I want to switch up positions. I don't want to say the Colamy "forces" you into one way of sitting but it's kind of restrictive, and I'm average height and build. I think bigger people would consider it way too small and limiting.
I'd also like to see them mount the arm rest pylons further back on the seat; the way they're vertically mounted, you don't have a lot of room to scoot all the way up to the edge of the desk if the arm rests are up. Higher end chair designs tend to have their arm rest supports positioned much further back for this reason.

  • @almartin4
    @almartin4 Před 8 dny

Could you look at a bit of a different category?
All of those fancy adjustments, especially leaning back are just what I don’t need. I have had a bad back for years now. I need a chair with a back that solidly locks in the forward position: any lean is instant pain. The other adjustments are fine as long as the back stays straight up.
    TIA
    Regards

I have a Humanscale Freedom, Steelcase Leap, Herman Miller Embody and a Haworth Improv currently and had a Haworth Fern and for a newbie that isn't really sure what to buy, get a Leap. My Freedom headrest is top tier though and as I have said before the Gesture's arms are top tier but the Leap's I would say are second. The Embody recline is easily the best, still don't love the arms. Leap's are built like a tank. What's funny is that even though the Embody is built extremely well, my brother who also has a Leap think's it's cheaply built compared to the Leap. My Haworth from the 90s still has the best seat out of them all though. The next chair I am going to buy and try will be an Ekorness Stressless office chair. The massage chair at the end was funny because I am actually planning to buy a massage chair this weekend. For anyone looking you want 3D or 4D with an SL track. lol

The Atlas was the second chair I tried, and it had to go back. The seat was hard, and the lumbar support was too aggressive and didn't quite go high enough for me. It felt like I wasn't able to use the backrest much at all because the lumbar support stuck too far out. It was a really sturdy chair though, so I wanted to like it. Very good build quality! We're all built different and have different needs, so sometimes we just need to disregard what we read or watch and try for ourselves. It was awful for me but could be perfect for someone else.
Stay away from the clatina mellet. Bad build quality, bad headrest, bad back, bad seat, amazing recline, and bad company.
The Amia was the 4th chair I tried, and it's the one I'm keeping. The seat could be a little softer, but I like the firm back and less aggressive lumbar support. It's a chair, functions like a chair, no frills and no fuss. I am looking at buying a second one for my home computer later this year. Found out about the chair through this channel I think, and it's the one I'd recommend to anyone.

What they don't tell you about the Colamy chair is that the armrest don't offer any support, they rattle and the adjustment is to easy to adjust meaning that it doesn't hold the position that you set and are knocked out of adjustment way to easily upon any contact with the armrest. I bought this chair on their recommendation and I wish they would have mentioned this prior to purchase because this would have been a deal breaker for me. I'm very dissatisfied with my purchase and have found myself questioning all of these reviews.
