@@TheDailyWoo My mama went to heaven recently. My name is a tribute to my little girl, Mallary, that was waiting for her. Brother, you sound like you recognize the value of the time you're spending together. I did that for the last couple of years, and it's one of the wisest things I've ever done. One day you'll be glad you did too. I sure miss my mama, and some of my family, but I'll see them again. Never take it for granted.
There isn't a show, anywhere, at any time, that's better than The Andy Griffith Show. I've watched each episode probably 100 times. I'm not exaggerating either. The values these shows portrayed were worth taking to heart. Thank you for doing this.

Took my mom and late brother Tom there about ten years ago, he was a huge Andy Griffith Show fan. We did the squad car tour with a older black gentleman who had grown up with Andy. I HIGHLY recommend the squad car tours. I've got pictures of Tom in the cell and the back seat of the squad car, and Mom at Andy's desk.
Aunt Bee's Studebaker survives, it belongs to the people behind the Old Time Threshers Convention, held every year in Denton, NC, about 75 miles south of Mt. Airy... or Mount Mayberry as some people like to call it.

Fun fact: Andy did a late life interview and stated that right before she died Frances Bavier called him and apologized for how she’s treated him the entire time. I saw the interview myself. So she wasn’t all that bad.

    • @creeds00
      @creeds00 Před 2 lety +1

I knew 2 people who used to take care of Frances's yard and clean her cats "litter box" when she lived in Sanford NC. It was really a tub in an unused bathroom. They had to use a shovel in and wear a mask over their face.

There was something wrong with her near the end, because her home smelled extremely bad due to her cats using the house and bathroom and tub as their bathroom. There was cat poop and urine EVERYWHERE.

Food is good but i liked just sit and soak it in, I could hear the locals talking. That is part of the fun of small town life where ever you are! I remember watching that video(s) from when you were here, or I guess technically "there," previously... when you were able to stay in the house. It was so freakin cool. I've got to admit, that when you started talking about the artifacts/relics/whatever you choose to call them, and you genuinely get so sincerely and incredibly excited about seeing them and being able to have them right in front of you, or in some cases even touching/holding them... You can just hear and feel your appreciation and love for these folks who open their homes and shows that they represent. It absolutely puts a giant smile on my face. I know I could have said this all in a better way, but I think you got the drift, lol. It's just so awesome and wholesome to see someone that loves this type of stuff, and it's history, more so than I do.. which is saying something, LOL. HEY ATW...WHEN BOTH OF MY SONS WERE IN Elementary School, my father would watch them after school. My father loved "Matlock", so my son's ended up loving it too due to repetitive forced viewing (lol). To this day, they quote Matlock and love Andy Griffith. Thanks for an awesome vlog that my son's and I enjoyed together. Seeing all the sights and sounds of his hometown was an extremely helpful tool to humanize their memories of childhood. Thank you!!!

Awe, now that's what I'm talking about. Excellent video and with your mom you too are quite the pair fun to watch. Truly does take me back, I was born in 1960 needless to say I was blessed with the opportunity to watch many of the Andy Griffith shows over the years.

Yeah! Love Mt Airy to pieces. What a great place to visit. It is the kind of place that every time you go there you can find something new. You have got to plan on coming to Mayberry Days sometime in the future. It is in September. A great time, crowded but so much fun and always making new friends with kindred spirits that love The Andy Griffith Show. Oh, guess what...A few years ago Stark Howell, son of Hoke Howell who was PFC US Army Dud Wash who married Charlene Darling, came to the festival. Had breakfast with him on the last morning at the motel we were staying at and he was telling me about an idea he had to make a movie about the fans of The Andy Griffith Show that come every year to Mayberry Days. Well it happened, Stark directed the movie along with his brother Cort who was producer and Greg Schell (Son of Ronnie Schell) and I got to be an extra in the film showing up in two scenes, one at The Loaded Goat and the other at Walley's Service station. It was a very exciting time. The movie is called "Mayberry Man". It is showing in select theaters and now on DVD. The supporting actors are all tribute artist of the characters of the show. I certainly enjoyed this video with you and you Mom and also the one you did when you spent the night in Andy's house.

    Adam,
This trip with your Mom is a Classic!! My Aunt and Cousin operate the Little David’s Carpet Store which occupies that rest of the old building where the recreation of Andy’s Office, Courthouse and Jail is located.
You’ve just got to love the ole TV Programs like The Andy Griffith Show.

I loved this visit! Being a big Andy Griffith fan, I need to go there. Love the museum/sheriff’s office. And the squad car tour, so fun! Lots of good info. And your Mom really enjoyed it too. Nice to see you two having fun with it all. Gotta check out Barney’s Cafe as well as the one you went into. I know how much most of the cast, especially Don, loved doing the show, and they were like family. It’s just sad that ‘Aunt Bee’ wasn’t like that. Crazy. She played such a sweet woman. Good acting.

I enjoyed that visit to Andy's home town. thanks for making it. I used to love watching The Andy Griffith Show growing up in New Zealand when we only had B&W TV and one channel in the 1960s. Your Mum was fun in the clip too.

I lived there for 9 yrs, was hired at that Post office, beautiful town and people. I knew the owner of squad car tours, that is fun for all. But the stars are new to me, Couldn’t be there to long. 🤔 So happy you shared this with your mother 👍🙏. And thanks for sharing, brings back memories, we’d stand in the windows of the Post office while working and watch the parade every year. 🎉❤️

Don't mean to pop balloons but Mr Airy was not the model for Mayberry and that's according to Andy Griffith in an interview. Sheldon Leonard spun the show off the Danny Thomas Show., Make Room For Daddy. He didn't mind letting Mt Airy take the show to the bank. Andy rode herd over the script each Monday. He did pull names from NC and Surry County but there was no adlibing in the show. Every story Barney told was word for word from the script of which every word was signed off by Andy Griffith.

Thanks for the ride along tour. That guy was really interesting. I rate "The Andy Griffith Show" as very high on my list of all time favorites. Especially the early ones. The show was funny, but perhaps more importantly, displayed values that I strongly associate with, and find admirable. From what I read about Andy Griffith he was actually pretty much an embodiment of those values. Mt Olive NC is supposed to be close by, and was often the "big city" Andy and Barney went to for entertainment and fancy dinners. It is also where they make Mt Olive pickles, a brand that I buy every time I go to the commissary.

Mt Pilot (fictitious), not Mt Olive. Don't mistake Pilot Mountain with Mt Pilot. Pilot Mountain is between Mt Airy And Winston-Salem on off US52.

@@ocd1927 I often thought there was a connection. Apparently not. Never been to that area, just wondered. Still good pickles, btw......now that you squared me away, I researched where the pickles are made and they are made in the town Mt Olive, an actual town, located between Fayetteville and the coast, and Mt Airy is clear up near Va. Sometimes one learns things in these comments sections; Thanks.

Well that was excellent. That fella could talk but he really added to the experience. Seeing that quarry and his old house. The Aunt Bea room! I think they may have had a fan blowing for air circulation keep things from going stale. Also, I like fried Baloney sandwiches but you got to have thin balona with the edges fried crispy, white bread with mustard. That is the way!

I watch The Andy Griffith Show every day on MeTV and TV Land and visited this museum last Summer. We saw the filling station, courthouse and had a bottle of homemade pop at Walkers Drugstore. One of the best vacations ever when you can relive a childhood favorite show.
