- "Star Trek Into Darkness" contains over 1600 visual effects shots, created by Industrial Light & Magic, Pixomondo, Atomic Fiction and Kelvin Optical Inc. In this reel, we'll take a look at ILM's work which encompassed virtually every tool and discipline in our effects arsenal.
We hope you enjoy the work.

This is epic. There are shots that I thought were part of the set, and it was actually visual effects. ILM is truly an inspiration.
Wow! I will have to try to recreate some of those in Blender!
ILM! Don't stop blowing me away! And I'm far too excited to see you return to the land of Jurassic Park (World) in 2015!
The ship crash-landing in SF is one of the most incredible images ever put on the screen IMO! Thank you.
0:33 That's a lot of effects!
So, are there people at ILM who create tools that make the shot breakdowns easier to do?
I didn't want the video to stop! It was short! Great work from ILM as always!
the particle simulations are amazing
It's amazing to see how far they've come since Star Wars
ILM artists are my Gods and ILM is my heaven !!
Amazing! The amount of work and detail is just mind blowing!
Fantastic work yet again from ILM.
Best special effects company ever. Just to think games will look as good as this someday.
Incredible. As good as it gets!
Holy crap. Some really outstanding work. You guys are at the top of your game right now. Keep it up, you're the pioneers who deserve to survive.
You guys deserve an oscar for this
Amazing reel and work as always
You people are the best!
Mind. Blown.
Amazing work you guys did, loved the movie and the visual effects are stunning!
Meraviglioso ! Grande !
SOOO awesome and cool
Stupendous Work on the Breakdowns! Great :D
Just Amazing!
I love the layers and layer of different cg elements stacked on top of base footage. Compositing has always interested me.
i saw that: made no sense------how is it in like 3600 but the tv show (original series) was set in like 2160????
Awesome!
This is insane!
BTW mind blowing work and awesome presentation...
EPIC!! I would really love to know how to make such amazing VVFX!!
simply perfect
Just by watching the movie in real time, one is simply unable to perceive all the details and thal level of complexity. Thanks for this a please post MORE!
Tutorial please! XD
Beast!
Masterpiece
epitome of awesome!!!
amazing
how long did it take to make this video? i assume you guys re-render the scenes with breakdown animation?
I didn't realise just how much was CGI
Tranquil JOE I think since Star Trek: Insurrection, all the exterior shots have been CG. There are a few closeup practical model shots in Nemesis, but 99% is CG.
Given the scale and dynamics of some of these shots, it's pretty easy to assume it's CG.
A lot of this couldn't be built for real to be as cost effective.
16000 views and no comment yet. Everyone is speechless.
Amazing work as always.
Smart good graphics
Stunning; great work. And why don't you guys sell your 3D models? You'd make so much money on the Enterprise and on the Vengeance.
awesome.I wish i could do things like this
Great Work! Love It! - I wish i had a quater of the Computer Power that ILM dose to render out graphics!
NICE
Fantasy Coming True...!!
At the torpedo scene I thought that was a set in the background at least some of it, fooled me!
The grated floor was real, as was the stairs, etc. behind the camera in the shot looking out across the shuttlebay (they filmed that in the NIF, same as the warp core scenes).
Awesome! But, why is there next to nothing on the Blu-ray disc for behind the scenes, About 45 minutes, compared to the 3 hours, or so, on Star Trek (2009)?
what programs did you used?
They used their own software, *It's a little secret*
They used a softwares like 3ds max,XSI, nuke to make this stunning vfx scenes
Very Cool. I wonder how they manage all those endless layers?
I wonder how long it took to render everything.
Artoo whistle at the end?
anything is possible now.... sky is the limit.
What renderer was used if you don't mind me asking...
wow ! If Van Gogh was alive today, he'd be working at ILM !!!!
How much Calculus do you need for this? :P
Seriously though, this is MIND BLOWING!
Tutorial when?
Name of the song? annyone knows?
Render Farmville
Scotty! My computer needs more power!
And Star Wars Episode 7 is supposed to use MORE practical effects than the prequels?........yeah right....
CGI> practical VFX
Sorry to say this but... First
Good special effects, terrible movie!
Awesome!
