You should do The Completionist Videos on Capcom games for the PS4 system.
sick! thanks for new vid my man
Why am I not surprised you completed this already 😀. Still, always enjoy Jirard and crew
for ps4 and ps5 AND ALSO INCLUDED IN XBOX GAMES PASS, THANKS FOR MENTIONING THAT BTW
You should do tunic
I got to play this with my turtle-loving dad, brother and 5-year old nephew this weekend. Good memories were created that echo those that I have from childhood with my uncles. I think games like this are important and the developers that made it should be proud of their work.
Love this!
Which characters we're On Your team?.
Thats why this game is Awsome
all my cousins came over and we played it all day it was great im so glad its 6 player
As a fellow Turtle Loving Dad this comment just made my friggin day man! COWABUNGA!!!
5:36 even though I know the context of what he means when I heard him say “the turtles saved my life” I instantly imagined a crossover scenario where they literally saved him, this is something I didn’t know I wanted
This is one of the best episodes of the Completionist with all the context around the game making it so fun and interesting
The turtles actually had stats in turtles in time they just weren't visible to the player. The stats in sheddar's revenge are pretty close to the stats in turtles in time. Raph had the highest damage in turtles in time which is why 2 player speed runs use a glitch to turn both players into Raph. In a two player speed run player 1 picks raph and player 2 picks donny. Player 2 then uses a glitch to die as donny but respawns as Raph. The stats in sheddar's revenge are very close to what they are in turtles in time.
This game has been every thing I’ve wanted since turtles in time, and we got mega ran and that killer final fight song. Keep up the great content and keep up the awesomeness.
Game is stupid fun
I feel you, they had the re-release for turtles in time on the ps3 I think? But it was garbage, no arena mode, no skateboard levels, and skipped some big bosses like the 1st shredder encounter where you throw enemies at the screen. There is a new level in Shredders revenge that has that same mechanic tho, this game is 90s af and I love it, best beat em up in years
@@311djackson you mean that terrible "Re-Shelled" game? 🤮
I hope this leads to a beat ‘em up revival. Modern beat ‘em ups are genuinely some of my favorite games, from Scott pilgrim to castle crashers to now this.
Battletoads, street of rage , river city ransom all had new games recently
@@ToastyBB Battletoads was horrible I'd recommend skipping it
Check out Fight'n Rage if you haven't yet!
Yes mate, give me another X-Men beatemup
@@captainfach well, the ‘90s show is getting a revival in the future, so if it were ever the time…
Between this, Streets of Rage 4, and Dragon's Crown, it's like someone explicitly decided to resurrect the most iconic 16 bit beat 'em ups of all time.
I'm 33 man and can def relate to the nostalgia. Ive been playing the shit out of this game. Me and my buddy got drunk and beat it lol What a blast. Just finished playing it 10 min ago! stay nerdy my friends
sounds like a great time dude! XD
Yessah!
Ain't nerdy
Yessah!
My buddy and I did the same and got nice and wasted and beat the game in 1 run. Recently I've been redoing the story mode over and over again to max the stats of all my characters.
4:03 "I have friends!"
You know, I can't think of a game that Jirard has praised so highly. It really says something when he says he'd buy it for another console just to complete it again.
It took me a minute to get the hang of things and I won’t lie my hatred for no hit challenges was making me lose my mind. But once I got the hang of it and started understanding it, that’s where the real fun began and fell in love with this game like I knew I would. I’ve never played Turtles in time or the old games (until the cowabunga collection comes out) and was always gonna get this game simply because I love Ninja Turtles but I can still appreciate what it’s doing and improve on them.
Practice makes perfect! , the first rock boss kicked my ass but i got to a point where he didnt even hit me a single time its possible just takes patience
As a long-time fan, your intro sequence gives me goosebumps!
same. Progression
I absolutely love the level of personality that was given to the Foot Clan. 100%, that's probably my favorite aesthetic thing about the game.
Speaking as someone who loved the heck out of TMNT, but not really got into the original 80s show and only played the first TMNT game on NES and Turtles in Time on SNES, this is easily one of the best games I’ve played in a while. I played through the entire game by myself because I don’t have many friends who are also into TMNT and I still had an absolute blast. This game blows every other turtles game out of the water and it definitely deserves to be at least a contender for Game of the Year.
This game is so good! It's a nostalgic blast for me and a solid, fun game for my kids.
I was very surprised they brought in the Punk Frogs. Kudos to them for that.

I doubt that Tee Lopes himself is going to see this comment but I love your music so much man. Roof Running Reptiles, We Ain't Came to Lose (with Ghostface Killah and Raekwon), and A Dish Best Served Cold are my 3 most favorite songs from Shredder's Revenge hands down.
After hearing this game's music and Street of Rage 4's Mr. X Nightmare DLC expansion (Survival mode), if a Streets of Rage 5 is ever going to happen in the near future, I hope you get to be the main composer for that game like you did with Shredder's Revenge man. Nothing against all the composers who contributed to Streets of Rage 4's soundtrack (especially Yoko Shimomura, Yuzo Koshiro, and Motohiro Kawashima) but an entire Streets of Rage 5 soundtrack done by you would be incredible. I look forward to more video game music from you in the future, "Party Dude".
DotEMU has done an outstanding job bringing back TMNT to the modern era. I beat the game already as Mikey, but I can't wait to do it again with everyone! Tee Lopes knocked it out the park completely, but Wu-Tang!? Can I get a SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Also one of MY favorite beat'em ups, but it does lack some polishing, like more combos for each 🐢.
Aside from that you can get stuck in a place when an enemy is out off the screen, and each 🐢 could have more phrases.
I would gladly buy a DLC with all this content, no doubt!
I think they kept the combos to a minimum to better reflect the old games. I think they didn't want to go become streets of rage so it would stand out on it's own.
Yeah the art is great but I don't see enough people taking about the flaws. Pretty disappointed the video didn't either, especially since you will see them if you play enough to "complete" it.
Its an amazing game. The unofficial TMNT 5 we never had until now. Its well worth the time and money. I love it!
In the SNES Turtles in Time instruction book, the turtles had stats too! This game just makes it a lot more obvious!
I still appreciate how year after year, this guy manages to produce my favorite videogame content on this friggin platform and it sucks that it seems like it's not getting enough views or likes for its own value. I loved this video, Jirard, and I appreciate what you do.
This game is perfect. I play it with my two kids. I love it, dare I say more than Turtles in Time. I was so happy Super Shredder was the final boss. And I think the overworld is a nod to the NES game overworld.
Some of the same guys also worked on the Game Boy Advance tie-in game to the 2007 TMNT film. Which is a pretty badass beat-em up for a handheld. Definitely a hidden gem.
Raph is my favorite Turtle. Even though he's a hothead he's the heart of the team. Plus he's the only one still wearing a red mask, REAL Turtles wear red masks.
I wish this game had some alternate skins. Maybe where all the Turtles are black and white but with red masks.
Complete Dawn of the Monsters. It's Streets of Rage 4 with giant monsters.
Personally for me; this truy made me more then just a kid reliving my nostalgic childhood, but truly worthy of a long awaited sequel to Turtles In Time!
I love turtle in time I beat the entire game in one sitting by myself at the arcade it was awesome
Not a big turtles fan myself, but I always enjoy watching Jirard gush about his favorites.
This is probably the best co op game of the year next to Elden Ring and LEGO Star Wars; I had a ton of fun playing this with my friends and the soundtrack by Tee Lopes made it all the better. Keep it up Jirard!
Lego star wars unfortunately sucked in co op, this is way better. Actually made to be played with friends
@@Sonicbitter100 I hope the next game has online co op
I wish they’d do something like this for other 80s franchises out there. Like a 2D Adventure Beat-Em-Up featuring He-Man, a Megaman-style shooter for G.I.Joe, or a hack-and-slash game featuring the Transformers.
Games that do what this game does, arcade or NES-style games that embrace the silly side of the 80s while also giving the player an awesome time.
I wish theydid battletoads this way. Battletoads 2020 wasn't for me.
Thundercats
there is a really good motu done with bor.
Great video as always Jirard. As an 80’s child, this game makes me want to open up some kind of new age arcade to bring back that feeling of playing games with friends and other gamers in person. Games like streets of rage, Simpsons, X-men, and Golden Axe… infinite potential. It would be a way of combating the anti-social dilemma of today. Love the videos, be well!
This is honestly my most favorite Turtles game since I played the original arcade game back in the day.
When those ending stats showed in the intro, I thought for sure the video was bugged.
So Jirard has mastered the Sakurai style of multiplayer.
My brother and I were blown away how amazing this game is. We played Turtles in Time, Hyperstone Heist and the arcade game thousands of times as kids. This game felt like the perfect execution of bringing TMNT back to those glory days. Absolutely perfect, seriously. GO PLAY THIS NOW!
I actually really dig learning of what you had to do before learning about the game. Like when a movies first scene finishes with “3 days earlier”
First off Shawn amazing art buddy! It's so vibrant and just as usual you knock it out!! Amazing end card work Carlos!
It was really fun helping you out on this! It really reminded me of the time I got to spend with my brother tackling Turts in Time when we were younger. Great script Pat you killed it buddy! The Jirard gaming with all his friends bit destroyed me. I will never finacially recover from it. Wonderful overall video guys! I loved it ahah
Jirard saying he would own multiple copies of this game is just like me with Hades right now. I've got a digital switch and PC version, beat the switch one and running a new run on PC which i just bought. I want to get a physical switch copy when I get the chance. Just love the game that much
I am SO glad that Jirard shares the same opinion about the final Shredder boss fight, in terms of completion, as me. In my road to the platinum , that fight took me literarily SEVEN HOURS to finally beat. SEVEN. HOURS. Because I constantly got hit. I've never sat at anything this long, by far. It almost ruined the game for me, but gladly the game itself is so amazing that I didn't even mind. Looking forward to seeing Jirard complete the next game!
Such a fun time. I trust Tribute Games to make any beat em up game they ever want to make, they’re all fantastic
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Mutant Nightmare was my favorite game growing up. Was great playing it on the PS2 with my bro
I really enjoyed the stats at the start of the episode while it was confusing at first. It did offer some interesting insight into your experience before the rest of the video started up.
Millennials are living the good gaming life right now. Not all nostalgic content is quality, but a lot of these developers care a lot about preserving what makes these old properties special. Shredder's Revenge sounds like the ultimate love letter.
I didn't have friends to play the Turtles in Time arcade game when I was a kid. I grew up in the 2000s and would go to a Chuck E. Cheese-esque arcade that had some old games, ball pits, and the whole shebang. Yeah, I put in a lot of tokens into that cabinet 'cause I really liked watching the Turtles on TV. Many years later and I'm in my twenties, finished college, and have a group idiots I'm happy to call my friends. When this game was announced, I was the only one who was really excited about it. When I took my PlayStation over for game night, well, we all had a blast! We laughed, ate pizza, and I finally got to live that thing I wanted way back when I was just a kid playing in an arcade.
Awesome game! Glad you loved it too!
As a relatively new gamer (my journey started during lockdown) it’s been a great change of pace to be riding the wave of an incredible new release like this, rather than being years late to the party like I usually am. Keep up the fantastic content!
Enjoyed the format with the numbers presented at the front, watched the full thing
Tee Lopes is a musical GOD! Right up there with Jake Kaufman.
If you enjoyed the soundtrack so much, please check out Jonny Atma! He's a fantastic metal VGM cover artist (he calls it GaMetal) he did all the guitar work for Shredder's Revenge and also the vocals for Panic in the Sky! Check out his recent covers of Mario Tennis's Tournament Match or SA2's Supporting Me.
I feel like Dotemu looked at achievements and said, “Let’s not kill Jirard for once.” Great video. I recommend the 2k3 tmnt game for GameCube/PS2/Xbox, and the one for the GBA.
I feel like as a person who’s never played a TMNT game before, not to mention Turtles in Time, and wasn’t really that attached to these characters going in? I loved this game. Not only that, but I honestly want to try and find out more stuff about TMNT, as this game really had me fall in love with this world and cast of characters. Phenomenal experience overall
I dunno how to say this, but like...you enjoying this game makes me so much happier than I was playing it. Like I enjoyed it, but I'm even happier that it was everything you wanted and more. Happy Turtles, Jirard!
I am thankful for your freakin baller Intro. I’m miffed at other creators removing their intros (lookin at you MatPat)
WOOOOOO!! Although I haven’t bought it yet, I absolutely love this game! NOSTALGIA PERFECTED!!! You can see the amount of LOVE and CARE the DEVS gave to this one!!
THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE A VIDEO GAME!!!!
Honestly the talent and skill to be able to play 6 characters at once is impressive
Even more impressive when four of them are invisible and are missing their HUDs.
@@SBaby didn't look at the screen tbh just the controllers didn't he have like 3 at once
@@kara9516 He had all six, but there were only two Turtles and two HUDs on the screen. Honestly, that alone is still pretty impressive.
@@SBaby it's still pretty cool he could play more than one at a time considering they play so different it reminded me of sakurai in smash videos
@@kara9516 Oh yeah, it's still no small feat playing two characters simultaneously.
BRO!!! The ending skit is HYSTERICAL! I almost peed myself Jirard! I wish you were my friend, we like all the same games haha
I dig having the completion criteria right at the beginning. Makes it feel more like you’re laying out your challenge before embarking. Nice work as always!
Love that Jirardhausen
I loved how you gave the hard stats to begin with and rehashed them at the end. I feel like I'm always waiting for those and having them twice was huge plays!
I just want to say that Turtles in Time also did have different stats for the characters but it did not show them ^-^
I've been doing a playthrough of this game on my channel and I've been absolutely loving it. The videos aren't out yet though I'm editing them together. Thank you for the awesome video as always Jirard!
4:42 - And then Trials of Mana, which made ME appreciate that sometimes remakes fun to play, and hilarious to listen to (I still can't believe there's a 'SPEEEEEEEEEN' ghost).
11:30 - There was someone at one point who used to work on beat 'em ups, and he once said that when you create a new stage for a game in this genre, you're going to ultimately have the same end goal as any other stage in this kind of game. So what you have to do to differentiate the stages is give each of them their own personality. Treat each stage like a separate character.
Have enemies show up where it makes sense for those kinds of enemies to show up, have obstacles and traps that make sense for the stage, and give the bosses enough personality to make them memorable. Tempestra is one example of how to do this. She is so meta that I'm surprised that she doesn't know Psycho Mantis. Her signature move is to pull Tokka and Rahzar from ANOTHER TMNT game and put them into this one for you to fight.
You can really tell that Tribute games listened to the people that complained that the levels in Scott Pilgrim were too long
I love that even though I watched you review this game already, you manage to keep your completionist run and explanation fresh, truly a talent.
@thecompletionist Actually look at the instruction manual for TMNT: Turtles in Time for the SNES, each turtle already has stats. Even back then the games you played Konami made sure that each turtle had different levels of defense and how powerful each type of attack was.
When I went into the layer for the first time and heard that music I sat the controller down I stood up and I knew I was going to have a very good day.
Thank you for the taking the time to do this on top of doing the coverage you did for X-Play. Appreciate it a ton as always.
I also had a crazy depression with suicidal thought, that was undone by watching the ninja turtles, didn't think there is somebody else out there who had a similar experience in relation to tmnt bring them back to strength, allthough I meant the 1960 version of the turtles, not the one this game is based on. It is amazing how cartoons can sustain happiness of people and bring you up when your down. I recommand everyone to watch it.
21:04
Pretty much me when I don't have any actual friends to play games like Shredder's Revenge and Streets of Rage 4 with on PS4......feels bad man : (.
The ending to this episode was waaay to good. Y’all’s comedic humor is perfect with the show. Kudos!
I love this game, and my first character I played in story mode was Master Splinter as I've always wanted to play as him I am a huge fan of Turtles in Time as it's one of my all-time favorite games. I enjoyed your breakdown and love of the turtles and games. You can see a lot of the homages from the older games like Turtles in Time, and the Arcade game from the NES era. I definitely enjoyed everything in this game and can't wait for DLC or what's to come next.
Honestly arcade attack on the DS is a solid title it's more of based on the 2004 TV show but it's just like the old arcade and turtles in time in the way it plays.
Gonna stream this with buddies and relive the 90s this weekend. cant WAIT!
You should definitely look into the GBA game based on the 2007 movie. I don't think it has multiplayer support, but it's another great pixel art brawler and actually shares some staff with Scott Pilgrim and Shredder's Revenge.
Great episode Completionist crew! This was really fun to watch. Pat, you did an amazing job with the writing on this episode!
Ace episode and loving the comedic energy, passion and depth that you have! A leftover from the early 90's here in the UK, I've always seen TMNT on TV as a kid, but I never really got into it...until I watched this video! I've purchased the Cowabunga Collection, Shredder's Revenge (really enjoying both games) and currently watching the TV series, so a big thank you dude for (in a way;) introducing me to the TMNT franchise! 😁😁😁
I picked it up, no regrets. It brings Turtles in Time to mind, and the old Konami quarter-muncher cabinets with those massive 4-player decks where you could step up and be joined by three completely random people. Except now it's yourself plus six others, and I love it to pieces.
The soundtrack of this game is FIRE. You can feel the style of tee lopes. He´s THE man when it comes to remakes.
TMNT has had some great 3d beat em ups too. the ones loosely following the TMNT tv show come to mind
At first, I didn't want to pick it up because it had the goofy 1987 TMNT style all over it, but from a gameplay standpoint, it genuinely looks fun and how a TMNT game SHOULD be!
Parts of this game are bizarrely like the original TMNT arcade game. It tickles that nostalgia button with wild expertise. I'm definitely digging it.
I honestly started tearing up a little when the theme came on. I grew up on Ninja Turtles and seeing them come back with this much love and care put into the game is amazing!
You, me and so many more did tear up because that intro cutscene. This game is everything we wanted from a TMNT game.
Same man. I'm 32 and this game means everything to me. The voices, the music, everything is so nostalgic. All the hidden details and fan service to us.
The fact my kid also loves the theme song and now is getting into the Turtles is the icing on the cake for me.
I low key love how this game somewhat retcons 80’s April into being capable in a fight.
Actually, I thought April's Super (Dodge Button + Super Button) was more akin to some of the KOF Supers, like Ryo and K'.
I still love that intro.
I hope this game isn't forgotten at the end of this year as awards season comes around, ESPECIALLY when it comes to the soundtrack.
I’ll never forget your story about turtles in time, I can’t wait for this vid!
I'd love to see him complete a Yokai Watch game, but that will probably be a pipe dream for a while. Regardless it's great to see him always passionate to complete games. Love it! Keep up the good work!
6:07 - Incidentally, they're releasing the arcade games, along with Turtles in Time, all of the NES and Gameboy games and also the Genesis game and all of the Tournament Fighters games in a collection later this year.
Surprised Jirard didn't mention but they got the original voice cast for the Turtles to reprise their roles. Also the soundtrack had the likes of Mega Ran, members of Wu Tang Clan, and freaking Mike Patton of Faith No More did the 80s theme song. This game is amazing.
This game has become the game my daughters beg to play each night. Not only has it become our favorite game, but we all love the soundtrack as well!
Well do I remember the story of how Turtles in Time brought you out of a coma. And now, we're back to tackle its successor.
TBH, I was half-expecting ProtonJon to jump into one of Jirard's games. After all, this seems like it'd be in Jon's wheelhouse.
That was quick. I've been working a lot since this came out but what I have played has been a blast, especially having all 6 players doing specials
This brought me back to my childhood memories, loving this game
Dat intro though, had to watch it twice
never thought Id see a turtles in time with april AND casey jones as playable fighters, this game is pizza perfection
I like that some of the backgrounds used for the menus resemble some of the episode title cards from the cartoon.
On the game cube TMNT 2 : Battle of Nexus! 4 player game, power ups, custom changes/characters! You gotta play it!
This game is one fo the few examples of a game that's so good you want to keep playing when you've completed it.
The one trophy of not getting hit on liberty/super shredder is a bit frustrating. Some of those hit boxes seem unfair. Fantastic game though!
the game boy advance game for that cgi tmnt movie was actually a lot of fun and very reminiscent of the original beat-em-up arcade games. it’s the same company that made a revenge of the sith game which i also love, those two games were like my childhood, and i’ve liked the ninja turtles ever since.
