    Sony's favorite twosome are back for their third adventure in this PlayStation 2 game. This time the pair of intrepid heroes returns home to the Planet Veldin to fight for peace in the universe. Players can gather more than 20 weapons and a slew of gadgets to help defeat the Tyrhannoids led by the evil Dr. Nefarious. Ratchet and Clank 3 allows players to step into the shoes of both characters in a myriad of on-foot and in-vehicle levels. The game follows Ratchet and Clank, who return from the Bogon Galaxy to the Solana Galaxy, after hearing it is has come under attack by a mad scientist known as Dr. Nefarious, a robot who wishes to wipe out organic life in favor of a purely robotic civilization with him as the leader.

      Something sad to note. Towards the end of Rift Apart's development, Quarks voice actor James Kevin Ward had developed Alzheimer's and was forced to retire from voice acting. He was replaced with Scott Whyte for Rift Apart, but that's probably why Quark is only seen at the beginning and end of the game (aside from the whole alternate dimension stuff).

    One of the reasons why I would say Up Your Arsenal is probably the best Ratchet games (if not one of the best by far), is that this was the game that gave us who I would say is one of my Top favorite VG Bad Guys of all time: Dr. Nefarious.
    Something about the way he conducts himself while being evil, actually being rather intimidating and even hilarious at the same time (such as his brilliant quirk of shorting out if he gets too angry and having to be slapped in order to get back into working order). Overall, I just love this character and I have a big smile whenever he is the main antagonist (especially in the latest game where it he was better than ever there too).

      I find the phenomenon of having had a much more limited gaming library prior to the rise of online stores and frequent sales (e.g. 18-25ish years ago?) absolutely fascinating. The scarcity only gave us one or two really good games at a time and that shaped and colored our first experiences by making the entire base of gamers incredibly diverse. And it's had an knock on effect on us with everything from genre to art preferences.
      For me, it was FF7. First one that I owned by myself and repeatedly played to completion for more than half a year straight through summer. Absolute milestone in gaming for me and my life. And, yet, I also know that if I'd been exposed to different things at a different time, that would all change. I'd still probably like it, but it wouldn't be this absolute gem on top of the shrine to me.
      Formative experiences are super important.

    Many like to say that the third game was the best one on ps2, I myself have a hard time choosing between the second and third game because I love them equally. The third game had stuff that I wished was in the second game, but the third game removed stuff that I loved from the second game such as the space fights and some of the levels in the third games are to linear compared to the second which gave you more room to explore the planets. Both games are awesome and I replay all three Ratchet and Clank games multiple times a year.

    • @whitelichmage7004
      @whitelichmage7004 Před 2 lety +3

      I personally prefer Ratchet and Clank 2 over 3. Ratchet and Clank 3 seemed too multiplayer focused. The levels we're watered down due to toned down exploration, less gameplay variety and the inclusion of a few levels being just multiplayer maps thrown into the campaign made 3's campaign severely inferior to 2's.

  • @RanCossack
    @RanCossack Před 2 lety +3

    Me and the wife actually started playing through this one, back when the PS3 store was going to be taken down, and sadly at the time, something due to an update Sony pushed through managed to screw our PS3 up, so that we OWN the games, but we're not allowed to PLAY them, due to not having an active "license". We haven't tried to fix it since, but frankly this video makes me want to do so, so that we can actually resume enjoying this game and all it's whacky nonsense. A great video as always, Jirard, looking forward to the next one.

I remember so many mornings as a kid where I'd wake up early and sneak downstairs to play Going Commando or Up Your Arsenal with the volume low. I love remembering these games through the way you approach them, really getting everything you can out of a game like we had to when we were kids trying to make a game last for months! Ratchet went from scrappy amature mechanic to a trained commando soldier who saves the galaxy from all manner of terrorists, mobsters and warlords, yet people still either dont know who he is!

    A rating well deserved for this Golden Oldie!
    Seeing this beauty of a game brings back so many memories for me and between me and my brothers! Enjoying and competing against each other trying to be the best at it. Story and multiplayer wise! They asking me for help and also showing what they did without my help and even giving me tips. Man do I want to time-travel right now and look at those moments again..
    Thank you for this video and thank you for letting me re-visit some old and fond memories of those good times!

    Ratchet and Clank up your arsenal is one of the most important video games in my life. It was the first PlayStation 2 game that I ever finished when I got my PlayStation 2 for my 6th birthday. It was fun, it was intense, it was hilarious, it's easily one of my favorite games not just on the PlayStation 2, but also one of my favorite games of all time. Easily in my top 5. Along side Spyro Year Of The Dragon, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Ape Escape 3 and Super Mario Galaxy 2.

      @TheRealBlazingDiamond Před 2 lety

      I haven't played Rift apart, but they're all good, although uya had the best feel in terms of controls. It's kind of the Super Mario 64 of them all. Except the controls aren't experimental

    It's an interesting concept where you said the protagonist of a story isn't always the main character. I think a case could be made that in the Assassin's Creed series the main character is whoever is strapped into the Animus and the protagonist is whoever their ancestor is. Some would say it's the reverse, but we're with the ancestor more often and learn about them the most.

    • @Propane_Acccessories
      @Propane_Acccessories Před 2 lety

      I think the ancestor is both the main character and the protagonist. The person you play in modern times is more of a plot device. That's just the feeling I get from playing.

    My favorite Ratchet and Clank installment Into the Nexus came at the tail end of the PS3's life cycle. It was short, sweet, and to the point. I can't say I've played any R & C games that weren't great save All for One and Full Frontal Assault, but Into the Nexus immediately comes to mind anytime the topic of the best R & C games comes up.

    So far Ratchet and Clank has done a clean sweep on this channel with every game so far getting a "Complete it" ranking. I love it! Also correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Ratchet and Clank is the only series that Jirard has looked at where they all got the "Complete it" score.
