      How about the role of foot function muscular structure and the healthy whole body reliance on strong toes .
      The untreated broken dislocated phalanges are a captialist boon market of so many market products.
      The manufactured deadly shoe market is undermining quality of life harder than any other greedy profit motivated activity. And the " healthcare" industry is raping the wallets in a hoale traddition of living off others . One planet where predictable life cycle exists. Feet first for making that 100+/- journey about living not chronic misery is a possitive contribution.
      The foot weakened by resting the muscles and bones in a non functional position using it more like a block with no strength has got to go.

    I used to have a bad bunion on my left foot and the start of one on my right. I’ve been working on my foot health for about 2 months. The right start of a bunion is completely gone and the left has significantly improved, a couple more months and I bet it’s gone as well. Two of the most important things I did which he did not mention: 1) loosen plantar fascia by rolling foot on a tennis ball 2) foam rolling and stretching calf and hamstring

    Great video! I have orthotics and I've started wearing splints at night, I work from home but recently got into hiking as a form of recovery for my chronic glute injury. If I wear these at night for a few weeks should the bunion go away? I have no pain when I move my toe side to side or up and down, but when I rotate it clockwise there is a minimal grinding noise and pain.

    What a fantastic video. I am almost 10 years post bunion surgery and have noticed the bunion creep back. Was never told to do any preventative measure such as the orthotics (which I had a pair at home anyway) so i have just this second put them in my shoes to have a walk around and my feet feel secure. I have quite flat feet, so this makes sense to me. I also have quite tight legs as I carry a lot of tension so have been working on stretching daily as another preventative. Great video, the best Ive seen for actual advice that is helpful and simple.

    I'm wondering what exercises I could do to help, I don't think I have severe bunions because they don't pop out hugely, but they do bulge a bit and the pain isn't terrible; but I know the problem is likely due to my habit of essentially dragging my feet when I walk. Almost like walking on my toes, and I work on my feet all the time and perhaps had too tight work shoes for a year and a half. I have Dr. Scholl's career shoes now.....
    I have a slight arch in my foot but I think I do have flat feet. Likely the fact that I'm always standing up doesn't help, I'm not sure but I do have that bad habit of always standing. Some years ago a coworker told me to sit down and I said I was fine, and when I'm at home-hell, I'm standing up right now!

    Can a bunion and hammertoes cause the Achilles tendon to swell and develop bumpsittat are painful? I have RA and have a severe bunion, hammertoes and thickened, painful Achilles tendon. I had the other foot fixed with titanium implants in toes 2, 3 & 4 and bursa removed under my foot. I didn't have a bunion then that was very noticeable but over the past 3 years I am developing one. So what footedness is hereditary through my dad's ancestors. Hey was that being said I was born flat footed and so was my brother I cannot speak for my brother but on both of my feet I do have bunions. So my question is when flat footedness is a hereditary genetic thing how does one fix their flat footedness in order to recorect the bunions? Because I've been thinking of having surgery to correct the bunions so is surgery a better option? Or me or is correcting it on my own a better option?

  • @nhr27
    @nhr27 Před 2 lety +9

    Thank you. This makes sense. Although as a patient, the conflicting solutions out there make it so hard to understand. My podiatrist says the same as you, good shoes amd am orthotic. I had tailors bunion surgery and it still hurts in shoes.
    Most videos on CZcams say the opposite. Wear minimalist, flat shoes and do toe stretches to fix the bunion. They also say hip flexibility, hamstrings and ankles stiffness could cause a bunion. They say walking barefoot helps and my doc said be barefoot as little as possible?
    I’ve tried minimalist shoes, altras (which are zero drop with padding and a big toe box), Brooks and new balance.
    How do I know what is right? Why are both viewpoints so extremely opposite? Are their truths to both?

      I might have an interesting thought for you. Not sure why it is not mentioned more often. Our feet did not evolve to walk on hard floors and asphalt/concrete. So I think using barefoot shoes in cities is asking for joint issues and pain. Walking barefoot at home, same thing. If you are at the beach however, look how your foot behaves, walk as much as possible on sand and softer grounds, see how it functions then and you will see what it evolved for. So I think wide toebox, zero drop, but also shitton of padding to protect the joints.

    • @howardjones8629
      @howardjones8629 Před 2 měsíci

      The problem with using orthotics alone, as I have found out over the last 24 yrs, is that the muscles and tendons that support the foot, weaken so that they rely on the support from the orthotics. A combination of improvements in strength and mobility is helping with my severe bunion; but there is absolutely zero chance of anything other than surgery going to remove the calcification, deformity and damaged tendons.

    I am on a quest to get rid of my horrible foot pain n I think I might have bunions. I don’t see my big toe bending in really, but the side of my big toe get really inflamed and super painful at the base. I have very flat feet n I had spine surgery when I was young n I think it’s messing up my feet. I wasn’t sure what was happening n a year ago I switched to wearing wide shoes n I’m wondering if that is gonna mess me up more n not make things better. I don’t know if there is a way to reach you directly, but I just wanna fix my feet. I work in a warehouse on concrete floors all day n work long hours n it’s really physical. Is there a way I can contact you directly and try to diagnose what’s wrong with my feet? Thank you for you videos!

    I know a woman who at 94 years young - yes - ninety four years young - wears 3 and 4 inch high heel shoes all day whether at home, grocery shopping, etc., and even goes up and down three fights of stairs for exercise with them several times per day. Her posture is errect, she wears pencil skirts and beautiful tops and looks amazing. She walks very elegantly in the high heels as well, and she has no bunions and never has had them. She said she began wearing high heels when she was a teenager because her first boyfriend was 6 ft. 4 in. and she's only 5 ft. 2 in., so this is when she started wearing high heels. She ended up marrying a guy who's 6 ft. 5 in. - an inch taller than the first boyfriend! She said she hasn't been able to walk bear foot at all for decades because her feet are so used to wearing high heels, so it's normal to her. And she's never fell or twisted her ankles yet.

    So what I've also heard helps with bunion are barefoot shoes... Big toe box, obviously... But also strengthening the muscles needed for getting rid of flat feet. What do you think about that? Do you think it could be an alternative solution to solving bunions? Or do you think that it's a contradiction to orthopedic insoles (or orthotics?) and stable, cushioned heel? I've heard people saying it helped with their toe pain and reversed their halux vulgus a little bit.

    • @DrTomBiernacki

      Specifically it's not flat foot but over pronation that can cause a bunion to occur biomechanically. We do see this with high arched feet as well. It's difficult to lump everything into he flat foot category, especially when big toe joint deformity might be hallux rigidus as well in certain people. Regularly though we do see a bunion on the tighter ankle that leads to over pronation and contracture of the fhl and ehl tendons. But again trust the person evaluating you as this is not always clear cut.
