Trick Opening Boxes - Part 2

- Here are some more trick opening boxes from Tim's collection.
Firstly, a box that requires patience! Inside there is a small hour glass, or egg timer, and the box has to be stood in a certain position in order to allow the grains of sand to run through the hour glass. Once this has happened, the hour glass will tilt, and allow the box to open.
The next two boxes involve the use of a device or tool. Firstly, a wooden box made to look like a large box of matches. In each end there is a drawer. However one of the drawers opens easily, while the other one is locked. The drawer that opens contains a single 'match' and this wooden match contains a small magnet in the head of the match. You have to take the match and 'strike' it against the side of the box, just like striking a real match, and the magnet will move part of the hidden mechanism, so that the second drawer will now open. Secondly, the little wooden barrel contains a marble, but there is no obvious was to get it out. The wooden stick you are given will fit through the hole on the lid, but that hole is far to small to allow the marble to pass through. The answer is - as ever - simple once you know how. There is a small indentation inside the bottom of the barrel, and when the marble is positioned in this indentation, you can insert the wooden stick, which is long enough to touch the marble. By squeezing the end of the wooden stick and the bottom of the barrel, and then turning, you are able to unscrew the bottom of the barrel. A most unusual solution.
Tim then demonstrates a prototype box that a friend made, although it no longer works. Inside the lid, there was a free floating wheel containing a magnet. This wheel acted a bit like a compass, and you needed to turn the box to a particular compass direction. At this point, the wheel was in a particular position, which allowed the key to turn.
Finally, another very unusual box which has a pneumatic mechanism. You need to blow into a small hole, while simultaneously sliding the two halves of the puzzle apart. - Věda a technologie

***** Tim is love. Tim is life.
I wish he would do a longer segment on these trick boxes. They really do tickle my fancy.
It's worth looking on Google and YT. I saw a massive desk one time, with all sorts of secret compartments in it............on YT I think
i love his voice and way of expressing himself
It's so soothing
Yes, Tim +Grand illusions should do ASMR videos!
lmfaoooo I know , he reminds of that one actor Michael Cain is his name I believe
skylight daylight-
He must be the bob Ross of puzzles
The compass box is ingenious
S s
I may have to get one.
I love Tim! He seems like he really appreciates the childlike wonder and joy we all too often lose as we become adults. I'd love to sit down with him and just talk about what he's seen throughout his life
He should have a voice activated box that opens to "Heh."
Or "extrodnary" or "what a lovely idea!"
l『」l
I'd love this guy to do audiobooks. Not necessarily of this sort of stuff, just in general.
I like that Tim was prepared with a stronger magnet in case the match-stick box failed to perform. That's planning ahead.
Nothing would make me happier than to think of an idea, and hear Tim say “what a lovely idea!” When he hears it
These boxes are absolutely amazing! I'm in the business and take great pleasure from repairing very old fountain pens and have come across several boxes like these in my antique store travels, but have never ventured far enough out of my comfort zone to actually buy one! Now, after watching these two videos, I feel like a fool and will be heading out tomorrow to see what I can find!
Tim, if you ever read these comments, please know that I find your knowledge and enthusiasm for these objects to be a national treasure and sincerely hope your passion continues long into the future!
Have you bought a puzzle box since?
I'm really addicted to your channel, and the weird thing is I don't know why...
Thank you...
Oh no! Now I'm stuck!!
I came I saw and I got stuck too
chuks6 same here
I feel you bro.
So far away from your family, from your friends, from everything you ever loved. But, for some reason you like it here. You feel something you can't quite put your finger on. Think about it for a second and maybe the word will come to you...... nostalgia.
This guy makes me think of if Vsauce got more chill, older, and developed a habit of collecting little things
the barrel one is one of the most outstanding boxes i have ever seen,! what a delightful design
Absolutely fascinating stuff! Where in the hell have I been all of my life?
the magnetic orientation one really impressed me!
This guy needs his own TV show.
I could watch him all day.
Tim is the coolest guy ever
Tim needs to be the new spokesman for Dos Equis because he is truly the most interesting man in the world.
That second to last proposed one, sounds like a cool geocache idea. These mechanisms are so ingenious.
i cant stop watching these videos cause this guy is just so classy and poised!
If they get a show on TV, that should be its name.
This guy should have his own tv program! Very very entertaining thanks
This guy is brilliant!
I am officially in love with your content, you are amazing
All of them together. Now THAT would be great.
Tim is so awesome i cant stop watching the videos
This man's voice makes me feel good. I want him to narrate everything.
You might say he has a magnetic personality.
It is so nice and refreshing that these wonderful videos are appreciated...count me in.
I wish I had a recreation of pandoras box from Professor Layton. With the scret compartment you open by rotating two people on the base sliding the sun, and blowing into a little hole. "when you and I meet when the sun rises and then the wind blows you will know my heart" something like that.
I love that box, it was so beautiful, I really wanted one
Great presentation, and lots of food for thought for this box maker. Many thanks.
WHAT A LOVELY IDEA
I like this guy. he seems like someone who'd enjoy a good intellectual talk
I doubt it - He's too busy playing with his toys!! I'd love to go round to his house and play toys. He's got soooo many you'd be there for days!!
Raymond Ashby yeah that sounds about right 😂
The magnet operated one at 2:40 is actually really cool.
hed make a damn fine salesman.
Id listen to him intensely then buy everything he had :-)
this would be cool to have a wedding ring put inside with a little note saying "will you marry me" or something like that.
Get quite a surprise when you finally open it.
Mavu-in Kirugoa Unless the never figure it out.
Zakkerly what I thought. BAD idea Mavu, it could ruin your life
If they can't figure it out, then they're not The One™ for you.
I just discovered this guy's channel half an hour ago and I am hooked for life. Somebody help me.
"You could hide your weed in there!"
+Travis Carson (BetaBerserker) "Not a lot of people know this, but"
I love you Tim, you make life worth living with your lovely ideas :))))
I was thinking the exact same thing. He should be a presenter for sure. I think he would be a great success
Tim, I believe you would love Geocaching. It is basically like a scavenger hunt across the globe. Look it up. Some are puzzles and right up your alley as we say in the states.😀
Love the voice-activated box. If you keep a packet of cullinary seeds in the box - you could say: "Open sesame," .... ".........seeeeeds"
The spinning one from part 1
and the timer one from this part are the best!
hope no demons getcha. take it easy with those puzzle boxes
I really love these.
Amazing! Just think if you combine all the different methods of opening the box.. The possibilities are endless.
3:31 hehe
.
+Graz Fraz Oh my...
+Graz Fraz "When I blow hard"
Brilliant entertainment Tim, I'm finding this video unusually interesting, these boxes are really quite spectacular.
this channel is amazing. I hope this channel gets reconized more and gains more popularity too.
Was thinking about that...What a lovely idea!
But you can watch him all day on here! CZcams is much more convenient than television.
what a lovely idea!
These are so fun and clever!
When Tim was opening the first box all I could think was "sand from the Sahara"
I have an old DIY book with instructions for a box you would open with a 4.5 volt lantern battery. It looked like a box with a bunch of nails hammered all the way in, two of which were connected to an electromagnetic coil inside. When you touch the contacts of the battery to the right pair of nails the coil pulls out the rod holding the box shut.
This guy is like the amazing reptile scientist dad from A Series of Unfortunate Events
Haha, love these videos and this guy is awesome.
I have one of these boxes from Morocco that you slide to release a key and then slide to reveal a key hole.
Gonna make the "centrifugal" one he showed in the other video when I have some time free.
these are incredible. i feel like they belong in the world of Zelda or something
Excellent Series
i agree cause i have been watching these for like an hour now
After watching so many videos, I've finally realised that his accent reminds me of Stephen Fry.
Tim is the goat!
You need to make a wooden box-lock fit tight enough so it would open only in Californian humidity ^^
Amazing idea's! yet so simple!
I love that None of his toys require corporate greed batteries!
I can imagine a golden age of making that kind of boxes where it could have been use to transport secret messages safely.
realy with his lovely ideas make me relax
Fascinating. i wonder how many of these "toy" mechanisms have rich historical significance?
what a lovely idea...
his voice is so calming
Thank u mister u made me smarter. made my brain to think out of the box.. all the best :)
I know this is a very old video, but I have been looking since soon after this video came out where I could find that magnetic match box. I have tries everything, and searching what is written on the box comes up with either other boxes or completely irrelevant things. Would anyone else know where to get one of these?
Wow I'd love to see that compass mechanism explained in full
The next Bob Ross.
Pretty sure the voice recognition lock mentioned at the end has been seen on countless children's diaries for a very long time now lol. I remember them in the 90s when I was a wee lad..
I like this guy.
"I don't think any other puzzle has been made of this sort" all I can think is Uhh don't they use that exact puzzle on prescription bottles?
They don't expect to do the same thing with lock boxes.
Most interesting, bravo good sir.......bravo
he's like a grandfather figure
The satnav idea is pretty cool. You could easily do it with an small arduino and a gps chip. The lid could have a solar cell hidden behind some jewelry looking decorations so you wouldn't need to actually charge the box, just hold it in the sun.
+mrkiky That is what I was thinking. But to make it even more frustrating to those trying to open it, make the box big and made out of the same material as gun safes. That way if someone tries to break the box out of frustration, they can't.
0:13 Sand Timer Box: A trick box with a sand timer inside to make it open the lid.
1:25 Karakuri Match Box: A faux matchbox with fake matches to open the lid.
1:52 Barrel Box: Unscrew the stick to open the barrel box.
2:29 Magnetic Orientation Box: Inside, there is a magnet to help it open when pointed to a certain direction.
3:15 Blowing Puzzle Box: A doughnut-shaped box to blow with to unlock it.
Tim sure know how to give hard blows
he was part of some tv program now hes retired :D But if he had a show i would watch it, it's very interesting, to kids for obvious reasons and adults who are still child at heart.
Interesting video
what a lovely vocie you have
this is good stuff
It would include a GPS locator like the kind in cell phones and navigation systems. One has to be at the "home position" in order for the electronics to allow you to open it.
".... and this delightful little item is a lament configuration... heh, wow"
Ive heard of these gps-based boxes, you can buy them for the sake of giving a special gift. When pressing a button on the lid, a screen will display the distance to the target, and the receiver then have to figure out where he is supposed to take the box for it to open. Thus you give the gift of an object and a journey all at once.
the idea that you have about making a box open on voice recognition is quite easy to be made this days :) mini android tv pc + mic + electromagnetic lock + simple mosfet driver all in all around $100USD it will be able to be controlled by an android phone too :)
I knew it! I knew that someone will point it here! :P
2:38 Try getting that one past the TSA.
who is this guy? and how did i find him?
Tim & destiny
I have a nice maple box where you have to flip it upside down and then move a little piece and it opens😄
I got a tool to open them all. I apply the same tool I used to make a square peg fit into round hole. It will get into most cars and homes as well. Yelling Bam, Bam, Bam, seems to help?
2:29 does anyone know where can i get one of those magnetic orientation boxes or how can i build one?
Does anyone know the history behind them? I couldn't find nothing about them on google
I want to know which box Tim hides all his weed
Kai Hammond
What if I told you not everyone smokes weed!
Dj Ruccy I never said they do. I'm just saying Tim loves a cheeky toke on some of dat piff green goddess.
Dj Ruccy why are you being so judgemental? I'm actually a really cool guy
Kai Hammond
Because potheads judge sober people.
Dj Ruccy Two wrongs don't make a right
The real question is; Why is the rest of the world NOT watching this?
Where did you get the one where it depends on the compass orientation?
