so glad I grew up in the 90's with physical games music and movies.
Yep, it was the last hoorah. The 2000's had the PS3 and XBox 360 era, which was a great time in gaming, but it was also the beginning of the end of the better times, imo. Netflix mailed you DVDs from a selection you'd never find in Blockbuster, and we were in another golden age of television with some great shows being produced. Seems like It went by like flashpaper.
I have a whole retro setup with crt tvs with all the retro stuff hooked up and still collect for them. Jist recently picked up a copy of NBA Jam TE for Sega Saturn and my kids and I love playing it.
Here in the U.S., even Best Buy doesn’t have Blu-ray’s anymore.
New era.
So did I but I find it a bad thing now. The disappearance of physical media is hitting hard
For reals... I can remember going to Toys r Us or EB/Gamestop to see the latest game releases.
The end of physical media makes me appreciate everything in my collection even more. Video games, Consoles, physical albums 💿 etc.
This has been a great year for my backlog
Same with me I'm glad there's been slow releases and nothing much i am interested in. I'm working on my backlog and i wanna get to the games from last year i was excited about i haven't played yet imagine still having TOTK on your backlog
@@Stratz321TOTK was in my backlog as well as BOTW lmao. So many switch games are just sitting on the shelf. Same thing my PS4/5 and Xbox. But like you said I'm enjoying the backlog and it's wonderful to actually play a game that I've been wanting to play for some time but for whatever reason put it off and tell myself that I'll get around to it eventually.
Agreed, I can wait for new games to be patched up and at bargain bin prices or just be skipped all together.
@@MiBrCo4177 , When you start playing BotW, you will wonder why you ever waited. It's outstanding (understatement).
@@JonathanWillow-zz7rb oh I've had it nearly beaten. I had to just run up and kill ganon but didn't play it for a few years. I started a new score and forgot you could only have one lol. Goodbye old score with roughly half of the poops found... Hello new score with hardly any time put into it lol.
star wars full package in Australia is $199.00 its utter madness
It better be the best game and ever made at that point. At best it the game seems kinda average, the animations are looking real stiff.
That's a lot of dollarydoos
I was looking forward to this game a few years ago but now after all that Ubisoft has done with it it's now definitely a pass over for me. Especially with Ubisoft's "Sure buy the physical but you still have to download it digitally".
@@Manlyman47 lol definitely will not be that great it’ll be Ubisoft open world and bloat Jedi survivor will be a much better buy if your a Star Wars fan
@@bombslikesaddamyeah Australians get a raw deal for basically no reason
The real issue is that very few boycott all these shitty trends in gaming, so we all unfortunately pay the price. It's tragically a lost cause now going forward.
That's right. Microtransactions for example only exist and are so prevalent bc people pay for them. If nobody did then these companies wouldn't push them on us. My opinion is that's on the casual gamers
Honestly I think that’s Ubisofts business model- outrageous launch prices to rake in the dough from people with a lot of disposable income or poor self control, and then quickly drop the game to reasonable prices for everyone else that know how to wait.
@SaintJoseph911 Yes, your point is quite valid. Another trend is purchasing "Live Service Games", like "The Crew" or 2015's "Need For Speed" reboot, then getting upset when the plug is pulled on them. Even "Gran Turismo Sport" & "Gran Turismo 7" need to be boycotted, but they aren't, so publishers are doubling down on them.
I don't! I see a game for $199, I don't even consider it for one second. No thanks!
My last console purchase was PS4 and that will be my last modern console purchase, and I do not play any game online, and never have since it's inception. Online gaming Destroyed the industry, and I don't participate in it. That's all I can do, but it doesn't matter, gamers fell for the Digital Pyramid Scheme, and it's all over for sensible gamers.
A physical copy of the Baldies Gate 3, has been announced and will be fully on disc with its updates. The import copy you have, states that it isn't on the disc but you can't read it.
When is it coming? I want the Xbox version
This comment needs to be higher up so johnny can see it
I’m guessing that is directly from Larian studios. I ordered a PS5 version and it’s hasn’t shipped yet.
So we can all buy it a second time 😅
This is wrong because the game is still being updated
This year I am selling off the games from my collection that I either don't enjoy or can't see myself playing. The backlog is insane! I need to just focus on and savor the games I enjoy, rather than hopelessly and franticly trying experience everything. I am in this endless spiral of either starting a game and soon after shelfing it because I want to play something else, or rushing through it and not giving it the time it deserves.
I'm into retrogamjng and I did it couple years ago and I really appreciate my collection more now. I miss a lot of great games, but this is only games and great gaming experiences will come to me one way or another in due time and that will constitute my gaming history. We don't need to play everything as there's so much to do and discover in life. They Bombard us with games and this is their game to distract us.
I just did that and got $300 stashed. Still trying to sell my Vita & all its games cause I don't touch it. Love it but the screen is way too small nowadays.
"A Tomb Raider that is no longer a tomb raider"
100%
How so?
What Tomb Raider game does not have Lara Croft raiding Tombs? None!
What does that mean? I haven’t heard anything about that.
@@EldenRink You lot have been living under a rock. Typical woke crap. "British adventurer Lara Croft will transition from being a raider of tombs to a seeker of truth as Evil Hat Productions and Crystal Dynamics seek to redefine the #TombRaider series in order to escape its colonial past." Yet the clowns still decide to use the licence instead of making their own creation.
@@chad9049why are you so pathetic that you have used the word woke in a sentence that doesn't even relate to anything even remotely close to 'wokeness'. Embarrassing.
I share all of your thoughts 100%. Modern game market practices are becoming so depressing. This is why I’ve been receding bigtime back into consoles I love like 360, PS2, etc.
Same here Pete. And if you're reading this.. Video idea.. another Sleepin' with Pete focusing on your faves on the sega saturn. I finally got a saturn and it would be great to hear Pete Dorr very quietly talking about it haha
@@autex2609the more rare the game is, the more quiet I will be when I talk about it. Most of the time I will be inaudible.
@@PeteDorr haha That would be amazing. “And my very favorite Japan only SHMUP is *faint murmuring*.. silence. I’m getting tired and relaxed just thinking about it. Anyway, hope you’re doing well Pete! Always love your stuff :)
When physical goes away I’ll be singing 🎵 yo ho yo ho a pirates life for me 🎶
I think ventually games will be 100% streaming only and piracy will not be an option. Or modding, for that matter.
@tahuonefiveseven7422 you're right about that. In the meantime, they'll make these games live services that you'll have to authenticate to, making it very difficult to pirate.
Game over for gaming as we knew it, sadly.
By then they will all require live services.
@@noelennon420 then I’ll hold a controller in my hand while watching someone play it on CZcams to feel like I’m playing it haha, they’re not getting my money if I can’t own it .
Why? Games are only worth paying to play if you can obtain it physically?
I remember when Capcom released Street Fighter 5. I was excited, I pre-ordered the premium edition, I recall thinking about it all day at work and getting home, pouring myself an ice cold drink and starting it up...and there was nothing there. Like 4 characters, one game mode. I was furious. Moreover, to rub salt in the wound, when they finally released the completed game, I still had to pay an extra 20 bucks for it even after buying the premium edition. And by the time it was finally worth playing (it is a good game now,) I was no longer interested. I had moved on to other games.
The point I'm trying to make is that this was not normal at the time. Now it's becoming more and more normal and I hate that.
The game had 16 character at launch, story mode and a very bad survival mode. The VS mode didn't had option to fight CPU at first; the game was an experiment implementing the Fight Money system. Later on they keep adding more charactera and modes and created: Arace Edition and Champion Edition.
The game imo trash and they should had refunded early buyera but... Tbe rostsr was 16 characters not 4. 😅
I love you, man. Thanks for your hard work.
Full digital kills cover artwork, which i find so aesthetically pleasing in a game collection, let's say, in a room. It's a chunk of your furniture yes, but it looked so good, IMHO...
I couldn't care less anymore, simply because PS5 & XSX physical games come equipped with awful looking flimsy blu-ray looking cases, slathered in legal text agreement, a sterile boring console logo in the top corner, typically uninspired boring art work with a generic 'logo only' disc inside of it. Switch games are more appealing, just because they're different, and house a teeny tiny cart inside, but even then. Eh, history has been laid out, i care more about 80's and 90's physical gaming media.
Ultimately, for the most part, the artistry, effort, heft, outlandish wonderfully creative art work and beauty of physical media is pretty much long gone. 80's & 90's was where it was it. ;) If anything, i just miss the resale value. There seriously needs to be a 1 hour refund window/return policy. It's pretty gutting spending $90 CAD after taxes for a game only to wind up being dissapointed and then stuck with it. That's where digital starts to truly feel like a rip.
The bummer for me is that the industry focuses on these massive, huge budget, enormous team, 5+ year games. It’s a bubble, it can’t last, it’s not good for anyone, and frankly, the games are often not even that good. It doesn’t have to be that way. But fortunately, there’s plenty else (too much) to play anyway, so it’s more a philosophical issue for me personally than a practical one.
So much of it is just snore inducing. I've felt this way since the XBOX360 & PS3 when so many video games started to transition into hollywoodized' movies, with dragged out game distrupting cut scenes, QTE's, and hand holding tutorials etc. So many games were drenched in grey and brown colour schemes and had far too much of a focus on visuals compared to the core gameplay. Thank god for the Wii+Virtual Console, DSLite and first year or so of the launch Aqua blue 3DS during those times, because if they didn't exist i would of dropped out completely.
The only next gen games outside of Switch that I've had a wonderful time with have been the latest Resident Evil games, including 2R, 3R(The newer PS5 updated versions running at 120fps), Village(PSVR2) and RE4R. Everything else from Spider Man, God of War, Racthet & Clank, Demon Souls, Final Fantasy 16, Horizon FW, Stray, the latest Sand Land & Stellar Blade Demo ,etc etc have all felt like soulless charmless boring affairs that i just can't for the life of me get into....I always flock to the retro and faux retro stuff these days!, but that's just me. :P
Curse of the Moon 1&2, Super Mario Wonder, Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening Remake, TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, Mega Man 11, Blaster Master Zero, Blazing Chrome, Panzer Paliden, Cuphead, The Ninja Saviours, Pocky & Rock Reshrined, Shovel Knight, just to name a few.
And i'd hate to sound like an old man yelling at the clowns. But pop culture is dead. lol Looking back, it was so much more fun living it up in the late 80's and early 90's. You can't even compare it, it was way better back then. The commercials, cartoons, movies, anime, fashion, 80's synth pop music, no smart phones or social media, gaming magazines were great, the innovation and outstanding creativity in gaming was on another level too. Gaming simply put felt fresh and new, with new franchises being born left and right, while witnessing those huge next generational momentous jumps in power from console to console, unique controllers, and the consoles themselves had so much character and personality. These days? We're mostly just getting sterile two-tone black and white boxes. Fun...That's the future for ya. lol Dang that was long. Sorry for the sea of text haha.
@@80sHolic7 for what it’s worth I basically agree with everything you’ve said here! Video games became the most lucrative industry on the planet, and what you’ve detailed above is the result, I fear. But, like you’re already doing, we just have to enjoy the myriad of stuff we can, and ignore the rest (which can be hard-some of it is too obnoxious to ignore 😂)
Outlaws £120 in the UK
I bought jedi Survivor "on disc". First update 100GB! LOL
I still remember being 10 years old and having to wait forever to get ocarina of time for my 11th birthday. Longest summer of my life.
Super hyped for sandland and paper mario ❤
Your videos make me so happy. Thank you so much for the consistency and love for it!
Thank you for being another voice addressing our concerns with the concept of an all digital future. Idk if we'll be able to stop it from coming, but at least we won't go quietly.
I haven't caught up in years. I'm 33 now so I may catch up in my retirement! 😂
Great video! Thank you! ❤
Dude, I'm 34 and it scares me that I'm half way through my life and haven't played close to half of the games I wanna play
I'm 43 and retired. I just keep growing the backlog.
@@airdrighmor1439
I've been retired from nearly everything outside of Nintendo since the GameCube era. The Dreamcast was the last none nintendo consoles that i ever truly loved and was that excited and enthusiastic over. DC had such incredible launch back in 99. But ya, I'm almost 40 years old, and just roll mostly with Switch first and foremost, VR(Quest 3 & PSVR2) and with a splash of PS5.
One of the latest games to completely knock my socks off was playing the PS5 version of Resident Evil 2 Remake on hardcore difficulty running at 120fps, with haptics & adaptive trigger support, on my 65" OLED TV. That game is frikkin S-tier, even surpassing the latest RE4 Remake imo. Village in VR was pretty spectacular too! Those VR cut scenes ar absolutely jaw dropping. :D
Playing through Octopath Traveler 2 at the moment. I’d say I’m catching up with last year, but I have many other previous years to catch up with too 😂
I forgot I had persona 3
OT II threw my whole year into chaos because I also got TOTK! I focused on OT II and am now making a leisure playthrough of TOTK.
Been rocking my ps4 still…. With some older games. I Got Syberia: the world before and Shenmue 3. At the moment. Great games 👍🏻
PS4 is the gift that keeps on giving. Huge price drops too. Just got a physical copy of cuphead (with DLC) and some goodies in the box, brand new for like $15.
I honestly feel that the Star Wars fiasco is due to the fact that Ubisoft is getting desperate. They need to recoup the losses of some of the terrible games they've released over the years.
Skull and Bones is hardly a game. Assassins Creed Mirage is hardly a game (extremely short). Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is cool for a handful of hours, but is insanely repetitive.
These games are all almost 50% off at the time of writing this...
I truly think Ubisoft is going down man. They want to charge over $150 for a digital version of a game. If this game fails, we might see the end of Ubisoft in a galaxy not too far away.
Makes you respect games like Ff7 rebirth and infinite wealth for launching finished. I played both with no patch or update. Completed Rebirth at 130 hours and I'm 70 hours into infinite wealth
Infinite wealth is so addictive, lol
I wouldn't say infinite wealth is free from this since they do make you pay for newgame+ seperate.
Rebirth is a miracle of gaming!
Waiting for Part 3 is a daily struggle!
I agree. Both games were big and surprisingly finished
Infinite wealth one of my few 100% games. I’m giving it a break knowing I’m going to go back into it. That and Like A Dragon renewed my interest in gaming.
Loved every second of those games.
For me getting a 75 dollar new game is still tough lmao . 2024 has had great games for me it will be special year for me because I got in a bad accident my birthday was April 7th . My disability check finally came on my birthday got a PS5 finally !!! Grateful since I'll be outta work for another 6 months thanks for your videos as always !!! I'm a physical game collector also I don't have much yet but always want disk. I got alot to catch up for. Alot of 2023 for sure .
The day physical games and consoles stop being produced (which will be soon), I will stop entirely with purchasing games. I REFUSE to pay for something I don't own physically. I refuse to support the digital world. PHYSICAL MEDIA (movies, series, games, music, books, manga) ONLY.
The day physical media is completely gone, they’ll start charging movies or music per watch/listen, because why not at that point, there will be no (legal) alternative
@@ShotgunWizard Yes, absolutely. And when you dare criticise the government or ask specific questions, you'll lose complete access to that digital library of entertainment. Same with money if it goes all digital. Very dark times are coming if people keep permitting this.
The day physical media is 100% dead is the day I start pirating even more games. ;) Don't give up on gaming.. Give up on paying to "not own".
@@thomast6511I agree with you. Some people deem me a tin foil hat conspiracy theorist for talking about the dangers of an all digital future with digital currency. I mean what we’re facing now is more censorship and our civil liberties being slowly eroded. With digital money the powers that be can see where you spend your money, how much money you have and could have the potential to cut it off if you don’t comply with what the government wants. As for digital games and media, I also 100% agree with you that I refuse to buy products that I don’t truly own. There’s also the worry that your access to a digital library cut be cut off at anytime and lost forever. I know people will claim that digital is better for the environment, but I’m sticking with physical games for as long as possible. I do buy the odd game digitally if it’s dirt cheap on sale or buy dlc like Fallout 4’s season pass, but the vast majority of my games are all physical.
well said - im 100% the same. As soon only digital will be released - im off of buying games.
I think this is why so many people are collecting for the Nintendo Switch. At least the first party titles are complete on the cartridge.
It becomes a huge mess though, when you factor in LRG and the numerous other aritifical release-copy companies and just how long it takes to actually receive what you ordered, but it all depends on the release obviously. Plus, the entire Cart plunking ritual with Nintendo switch feels flimsy and cheap. You've got to pop off that weird rubbery cart lid for starters, then as you stick the cart inside the switch the console wobbles and shakes inside the dock etc. :P
While I cant say for certain how the remainder of 2024 will be, i do feel that the first four months have been amazing with Tekken 8, Infinite Wealth, ff7 rebirth, DD2, Unicorn Overlord, and Grandblue.
Just sending some love all the way from Miami. You inspired me to start making content on my love for video games.🙌
Hello. rando comment here, but I also discovered Happy Console Gamer when I was living in Miami some years ago. Have you checked out Arcade Odyssey down there? If you're on this channel and live in Miami, you owe it to yourself to go, if you haven't already.

Really looking forward to Stellar Blade, Space Marine 2, and hitting my backlog
2023 also had one of my favorites in January; Dead Space (remake). I absolutely loved it! also, long time fan and love what you do. Keep up the amazing work, always love when I see a new HCG video is out :) you're awesome dude
I like going back to older games for that reason, there's great games now but they launch unfinished and i think older games had a charm you don't get these days from games (i played the Ninja Saviours Return of the Warriors on your recommendation and i love it, it again reminds me of a time when gaming was simply more fun and had more charm)
Same I just like playing the older games also they were finished and when you find extra content it did it the old-fashioned way you didn't buy it

I am going to say so far it is a good year for gaming for me personally but considering it is only April,I can't say what the rest of the year will be like yet. But so far i am playing and enjoying the games that interest me that i have purchased from this year and years prior I missed.

2024 and just now playing cyberpunk, great game glad i missed the launch
I only played it at launch, but it's been long enough now that I've forgotten a lot of it, so I'm looking forward to playing it again. It wasn't a bugged mess for me when I played, but you could definitely tell it needed more work.
Just finished Cyberpunk the last few months. Almost done with Ghost of Tsushima now. So many games from the last few years to catch up on.

I too am in mourning for the loss of physical games media. “Coming to terms” with that as you said, is proving to be very difficult. The all-digital future was something I naively thought we’d not see happen to video games. Now that it is, it’s having a greater emotional effect on me than I expected.
I agree that the pricing and digital games are or have taken over. I have had more time with issue since I am also a pc gamer. I also wait a long time to play newer games in general save your Mario and games that come out in a year that I must play. For me I have had a great time rediscovering my backlog and getting back into console gaming as a whole. Amazing video. It really speaks to me being an older gamer like you. Thank you.
my most anticipated game this year is Black Myth Wukong.
Hope it's still coming out this year.
The avatar and jedi survivor games also cant be played physicaly without connecting to the internet to download.. future drink coasters right there.
That's OK, they're meant to be "for the moment" games. They weren't designed with 30 years later in mind.

I agree, both with the thing about physical games getting less and catching up on our backlog
I’m playing Chrono Trigger on the DS for the first time ever this year. Awesome game
Also playing 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and I’m extremely impressed
I got my close friend into Xenoblade Chronicles, and he’s playing through the entire series and loving it.
2024 is indeed the year of the backlog, and I’m having a blast!
Don’t sleep on Rise of the Ronin.

But it's so easy to sleep on.
That MSX 2 Metal Gear: Solid Snake theme at the beginning....YES!!! Played in 1990!! Here in Brazil...you can double the price given.......
Sadly, as I’ve gotten older with Movies and music, I just have to realize that not everything is for me anymore. What I used to like growing up changes for the worse (for me) , and now with the way they’re treating games.. it’s getting to the point where I’m going to just focus on my infinite backlog and not worry about upcoming games as much.. since they treat the consumer like shit..
I personally don’t even watch new movies anymore. I just watch movies for my past and discover cool older movies I have never seen… Gaming will probably be with same sadly
It's a great year for the quality of games and the amount of releases. But on the flipside there's a bunch of bullcrap and you did a great job talking about it. And games not being complete upon release is why I prefer to continue playing my ps2
Stellar Blade GOTY 😊
Soundtrack is phenomenal, it's boasting great atmosphere and the visuals are solid....But i don't know,, the acting is drab and monotone, and most importantly the combat, including the jumping feels delayed, stiff and too clunky for my liking. Back to Bayonetta 2 I go! :P I'll probably just listen to Stellar Blades OST on YT and watch the cut scenes instead.
@@80sHolic7 do you play the entire game?
Very intriguing and interesting.
I think you should do a video series on comparing each generation just to see who actually had the best run of gaming over all.
My opinion the snes, genesis run was the the most competitive and fruitful of any generation.
The healthy competition / console wars delivered us tons of games, banger after banger after banger. I've been collecting for about 8 years now and never really realized how many great games i missed out on back in the day.

As amazing as today's game's are I have gone Retro PS3, Wii U all the way to Atari 2600 NO INTERNET REQUIRED!

Really hoping you'll do a review of Unicorn Overlord. Like you said though, there's a big backlog right now due to a glut of releases.
Johnny, I hear you and I have struggled with the same issue but the way I have come to think about it is that nothing is permanent and that includes our lives themselves. So I feel like I should just enjoy the games now however I can and when they're gone they're gone and i'm sure something else will come along to replace them
Good as a life philosophy, not so good as a rationale for accepting corporate control and dominion over goods.
Impermanence in general isn’t the issue, it’s that it is exacerbated by companies to provide as little as possible a window of play and squeeze you in the future to repurchase.
Not to knock the zen disposition towards life at large, I do resonate with that.
@@brady9592 It's an unfortunate situation, but ultimately you have to either accept it, or just stop playing games.
@@wojiaobill not at all, I can play games and do any number of things while having critical thoughts about how they ought to be
Pros of this year: alot of neat, little rpg games been hitting my switch lately to keep me busy.
Cons of this year: AAA gaming's future becoming more and more uncertain, game preservation...the lack of, and outside forces like consulting firms invading games to make them less fun for everybody 😵💫
This slowing down of releases (for games im interested in, at least) is fantastic for me getting through my backlog. I don't need to buy new games right now, i need to get through games i already bought!
I am looking forward to getting back into retro-gaming with full force. I am fed up with the digital downloads, gigantic patches, season passes & dlcs, the crazy prices...There are positives with modern gaming, but the negatives with mostly modern console gaming is getting out of hand. So for me, I will focus on playing and buying games not newer than Wii/360/PS3 from now on. Maybe Evercade, but not Series X/PS5. Switch is kind of nice though? And PC, well, there it somehow have always been more flexible, even back in the older days.
Btw i refuse to buy digital. Its always physical for me.
Man- I'm still playing tears of the kingdom lol. There's so much stuff to keep track of in the gaming world, but the most important part is to not give into FOMO as much. Enjoy every moment
Last year was a great year for the releases I highly anticipated, but it was also the most stressful year because of some things beyond my control. So I'm happy that the release calendar for my preferred games has been diminished quite a lot. As you said, this year is a great catch-up year and I couldn't agree more.
honestly every year is a great year for gaming cause no matter how little greats or how many bads, every year you can guarantee there at least one game that you played or will play that makes you forget all about everything and live in the moment.
Rebirth is incredible
When the gaming industry become only digital I Will not consume It. That is why I still buy retro games. This is very sad....
So you buy to collect not buy to play?
@@TheMeanArenayou going to say that to everyone?
@@genesisfan029 It is a valid question to what was said. They said they will no longer consume games if they become digital so my question stands. Do they buy games to collect or play? Digital is the future whether people like it or not.
@@TheMeanArena Digital is only the future because people just lie down and accept it.
I will tell you what is going to happen when it goes all digital. Just now you buy the game and it sits there for you to play anytime you like. Once they have full control (which they will have) when you buy the game they will give you a time window to play it then it will be removed from your library completely once that window closes.
@@lifeisyours8250 Well you're free to assume that but I don't think so. There is nothing wrong with digital except for those that want to collect a physical copy. I wonder if collector's outweigh people that just play games? I highly doubt it. It isn't about lying down and accepting anything. People that buy digital see the positive benefits it brings to their needs. It is an old and tired argument just like moving from cassettes to CD's or from VHS to DVD. Eventually something better comes along that fits people's lifestyles and digital is exactly that. Sorry if you prefer slow loading discs or if you want to just collect them.
the ps5 games I have can be installed offline, I've got 46 physical games, obviously this is without the patch, but the games are on disc
My backlog could keep me busy for years. Playing Neo Geo Pocket games right now.
I'd rather play a 20 year old game than pay $100 for a poorly performing new game
...it's only April.
It's already April.
The video was posted only two minutes ago, you don't even know what he's going to say.
It’s actually already almost may
that's 1/3 of the year down and we know for the most part what's coming
By the end of the year Nintendo will still have a dry year
Can’t wait for your Dragon’s Dogma 2 thoughts. I’m loving it :). And I feel the same about losing physical media:(
This year has been pretty lackluster overall, but Helldivers 2 has been a shining star for me. It's definitely my top pick for game releases on the PS5. It hits all the right notes, had a fair price at launch and brings back that nostalgic early 2000's gaming vibe that I love. I used to be a massive fan of the Gears of War multiplayer, but I must say that my love for this game has far exceeded that. If you haven't given it a try yet, I highly recommend you do so.
With Ubisoft and Star Wars Outlaws, it’s a combination of things. The pricing is insanely greedy. The character looks weird and ugly. The game looks like typical open world Ubislop with boring filler all over the map.
Too many games. I can't keep up. It's an excellent year for gaming.
Does it Play tests games for playability from the disc. The vast majority do not need patches.
That’s why I’m tackling my backlog right now… I’m collecting very few things over the year… except Paper Mario in May, that’s Day 1 lol
@@ProjectSh4dowI'm the opposite. My backlog is already in the hundreds. I'm just adding to it, which is fine by me. I've probably bought over 20 games so far this year.
Hm. I’m sure cyberpunk, mass effect amdromeda, forspoken will play great with no patches 😂
@@c.keenan you do understand what "vast majority" means, right?
I'm assuming this is a bot. There's no way a person could be so grossly ignorant with such a ridiculous response.
@@airdrighmor1439I do, and I disagree with you.
My backlog goes all the way back to the OG xbox and PS2. It's epic.
I do think that 2022 was a great year of games. We got Elden Ring at the start of the year and we ended the year with GoW: Ragnarok. Sprinkled in between there were games like Horizon, xenoblade chronicles 3, and a surprise game like Stray.
And the community asks why young people love playing Fortnite, Apex and Roblox. I don't blame the new generation, buying $100 plus single player games, just to beat it on a weekend is ridiculous. On top of that the game will become useless when the servers shutdown, stupid.
The start of 2024 is amazing so far and this is definitely the best year in gaming for a long time for me!
87 - 95 gets my vote with NES, SNES, GEN, TGFX, Super GameBoy & the Arcades,
and then 95 -2001 with Saturn, PS1, N64 & Dreamcast. I had an absolute blast with the Wii+Virtual Console, DSLite and first year or so of the 3DS as well. Now I'm all about Switch, VR(Quest 3 & PSVR2) and with a splash of PlayStation 5.
Thanks to how the games go with digital, I opted to buy and play older games. Recently I got a PSP (as I never had the console). It went for 75€ plus another 75€ for 4 games (Tekken 6, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, GTA:Vice City Stories and Gran Turismo). I also plan to buy some more (I'm already waiting for Wipeout Pure and Pulse) , as it will be cheaper in the long run and play awesome games, that still stand even today.
I am personally happy that we aren't maybe getting as many games because I am still playing catch up myself! It's a great problem to have! I hate the all digital future - something I want to cover on my channel soon actually, but even if it happens, I'll still always play video games!
You are absolutely going to LOVE Dragon's Dogma 2! I know I currently am loving every PHENOMENAL moment!
Banging opening choon, love me some YS❤
I will always love Physical gaming . But the new price labels are outrageous imo especially the Bundles, deluxe edition, Dlc expansion passes , the list is endless.
So yeah I agree with you johnny ! 😅😅😅 Such is the way of the modern era of gaming. Digital only Gaming, here today , gone tomorrow if they delist it / remove it from the stores digital wise even movies tv series specials. Smh 😢😢😢
2024 has been on fire for me. Legendary Tales and Soul Covenant on PSVR2, Rebirth, Ronin, Alone in the Dark on PS5. I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting. Every new game I've tried this year has really engaged me.
I'm still playing catch up with 1995
True. That’s why I’m deep into retro gaming only this year.
Here in the USA, when Shadows of the Empire came out for the N64 it would retail for over a $100 at EB Games and other retailers.
Totally agree with you...I'm so relieved I'll get to catch up on my backlog this year! I'm currently playing and loving Dragons Dogma II, but this year I'll finally get to play Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
There's still plenty of retro games that come out finished, but for the most part you're right. I mostly just use emulators, and I'm just catching up on all the old SEGA games I never had a chance to play growing up. Snatcher, Shenmue 1, and 2, Panzer Dragoon, and Grandia just to name a few. It's been a blast.
I agree, I also still have a lot of games I want to catch up, so I have no trouble waiting for new announcements and releases right now. Furthermore, the first F-Zero in 20 years (99) had me playing for months now, more than I expected innitialy, but it's really fun. So glad that franchise is back and hopefully more to come in the future.
Think we’ve slowed down as well with buying new games last year was such a big year plus the cost of living atm
Ï keep being amazed that some games that last for 40 hours are just 7GB in size, and that convinces me that those games that are too big to fit on a disc is just purely in textures etc. As someone who plays both retro and new games I would rather have it look less impressive and just fit on the disc although that's subjective and I'm sure others feel differently, and that's fine.
This year has been great for me. Did Dragon Quest 2&4 1st time ever, going to do the new Ys, Neptunia, and Legend of Heroes games. Even plan on playing FF4 soon from start to finish as I only played it for a little bit when I was 5-ish. I also got a new OG Xbox controller and have been attacking that backlog of 140+ games. I have been really excited playing games so far in 2024.
Trying to keep up with the breakneck release pace has meant that I have had to jump ship half way through a game time and again. But with the current slow down in release pace, I am at last finding again the time and availability to revisit the games I have left unfinished and give them a proper send off. This feels oddly liberating.
Physical games won't dissappear, it's an huge market, because they are trendy like LP'S or DVDs, CDs etc. And they are back, nostalgia sells and pretty well.
I hope you like DD2. I had a blast playing through it!
The two games I'm really looking forward to this year are Stellar Blade and Visions of Mana. There may be a few more that come out that I don't know about yet, but those are the two big ones for me. Even if nothing came out though, I've got literally hundreds of games sitting on my shelf that I need to get to (most are still shrinkwrapped). At this point though I don't anticipate even beginning to make a dent in my backlog until I retire, which should hopefully be in a little over four years if things go the way we're planning.
