I really wish Mega Wailord was a thing. It’s ability would be called “Massive”. Basically, Wailord would become so huge that the entire screen turns blue and nobody can see what’s happening until Wailord is defeated.

Nah, the Ability would only work in Double Battles, force your other Pokémon out and it can take 2 actions per turn.
The same with Triple Battles but give it 3 actions per turn.
Fun fact if you compare Wailord’s size to an actual Blue Whale, it would be about HALF the size of a Blue Whale
i love how dynamax wailord is the only time it's actual size is even close to being accurately depicted

Dondozo just feels like a reboot to Wailord honestly. It's massive but not big enough to look ridiculous. And it's actually very good in competitive with its ability.
plus actually has defenses above 45, which makes sense cuz of its height and weight unlike Wailord whose defenses are 45

The true tragedy of Wailord is its weight. At about 398kg and at the size it's at, it theoretically would be less dense than air. Also surprised that Skitty was not mentioned in this video.

It's a zeppelin whale, at one point I think it was going to be water flying but they already had Wingull/Pelipper, and Mantine.
But the fact that it DOESN'T make sense & the whole Skitty situation makes it stand out. If it wasn't this large & had these weird discrepancies, then I don't think it would be as infamous.
Like there are some REALLY COOL Pokemon that don't have anything that makes them particularly stand out from the sheer number of Pokemon, & I think that's sad.

The only cope that I have for this is that now we know Pokémon can willingly shrink whenever they want. In the same way that fire Pokémon can choose not to burn people with their flames, I assume a trained wailord has the sense not to grow to its full size everytime it is released lest it damage its trainer. The one that you catch in the isle of armor for instance is full sized but when you catch it now it keeps itself under control and stays smaller for your sake. At least, that seems to be the most lore friendly explanation I can think of
Dunno if you learned, but technically that is actually canon now. In Legends Arceus, Professor Laventon states that Pokémon can shrink themselves at will and that's how they can be fit into Pokéballs.
To answer the question about that Wailord from the Isle of Armor: Yes, it indeed does respawn.
I ran into it back then the DLC just droped (somewhere in the first week I believe) and it respawned sometime the following year. I don´t remember how long exactly it took but it was definitively months.
I was also playing the game on a daily basis, since I was grinding Apricorns, so I wonder if that had something to do with it.
I'm surprised that many people don't know about this
I ended up grinding on the Isle of Armor a lot too, but maybe I’m just unlucky with it showing up again 🤷♂️

the wailord DOES respawn but it is *quite* rare

I know it'll probably never happen, but I'd love if Wailord got an evolution that was just stupidly large. Like 100m long or bigger. Makes Wailord look like a baby. Something barely anyone has seen, and that's disregarded as a sea monster story from traumatised sailors. Can't even fit in the normal battlefield, and always hovers behind you like a dynamax. In the overworld, you can only see it in far in the distance, like Monksnail from Monster Hunter Rise. Call it "Waileviatan" or "Waileviaton" or something (Intentional misspellings). Absolutely gargantuan boi
The entire reason I bought colosseum as a kid was seeing wailord in an ad. That's what really sold the scale and scope of the game to me as someone who had already played stadium and stadium 2. I also used the trade plusle for the entire game, even having them as a part of my mt. battle team to get ho-oh

3:59 I don't think it would be that much worse than with Walking Wake. SV already includes Eternatus, the largest Pokémon, and it's shrunken down in the overworld (though it's still quite large). I imagine they'd do something similar with Wailord if it were to be included in the DLC.
I grew up in Washington state near the water and I can tell you that this area is much like the hoenn region. I always had a dream of riding along the Puget Sound on a wailord or Kyogre

There has been a scale issue. In Sword and Shield I got Reshiram and he's not as tall as he should be. He's 7 feet tall as opposed to the 9 as it's said in the Pokedex.
When I first encountered wailord in the isle of armor it didn’t respawn for a long time, a year later it respawn back to the spot I first encounter it, so yes wailord does respawn but idk how or what method you need to do to get it respawn

I’ve never owned swsh, but in regards to respawning a set encounter, have you tried beating the champion and reaching the credits screen? That’s how it worked for respawning in the older games, at least.

Wailord on its own is supposed to be the size of most dynamax and a few gigantamaxxed pokemon (not kidding, gigantamax corviknight is about the same size as normal wailord) it woulda been nice if the mainline games reflected that more.

Wailord is dumb. For two reasons:
- Height and weight of most Pokémon are dumb. They don't reflect their power. I wish Height reflects more the HP stats, and Defense the "BMI". Basically, high HP and low Defense would gigantic because they would be literal balloon, or low HP and high Defense being small sturdy Diamonds, Steel or heavy Rock.
- Wailord stats are dumb. They are not suitable to the "biggest Pokémon". The biggest should have 250 base HP.
I want:
- An updated Height and Weight for Pokémon to be more in par with their Base Stats. Therefore scaling the Pokémon would make more sense.
- Pokémon with absurd stats (Chansey line, Shuckle, Wailord) to have updated stats so that their expected Height / Weight be closer to what you would expect. Chansey could have lower HP and higher Defense/Sp. Def to be more "normal". Wailord would have 250 HP (and probably 25 Defense/Sp. Def) to be more closer of the zeppelin idea. And so on.
So size does matter now? Noted
I personally don't mind it being down scaled though i do agree it could have been a little bit bigger. Hwy GatorEX have you ever thought of making a video talking about how you feel about Game Freak?
I think my feelings on Game Freak tend to come up in a good amount of videos, but that wouldn’t be a bad idea for the focus of a video 🤔

The most anyone could do was make him the size of a large plush. Ironic the largest pokémon ever, reduced to the size of child, and less dense than air itself.

I keep hearing people get fired up about the size of a pokémon because it would be "cool" for lore reasons, but people never get as equally fired up about gender differences, which are another fascinating way of showing how certain pokémon are based on their real-life counterparts. If we really needed to nit-pick, things like gender differences need to be spot-on too. They nailed the reference to gender differences with Torchic by giving the female a tiny pixel where her anus would be to represent her cloaca--which correlated pretty well with how actual chicks are. They also include sexual dimorphism at times which is pretty epic. I just want to start seeing the people who hyperixate on the size of a wailord get on GF for making sure these other small details are 200% correct as well. Other references to habits and physical traits add to the "lore" and show how much research and time went behind the designs just as much as "yeehaw make beeggest animol actually beeg." I want to see Lanturn's actual gender differences in the game: the bigger Lanturns if we're going for complete accuracy should be 100% female whereas the male Lanturns should look drastically different--they fuse with the females and wither away until nothing but their gonads are left for reproduction, meaning a male would never grow to the size that the pokémon Lanturn is in any of the games.

2:43 this is why I never encountered the wailord in my swsh playthrough. He needs to just chill there as the only actually big wailord in the entire game that isn’t dynamax.
In my copy of Shield, I left it right where it is and say hi every time I play.

I wish it never returns in Gen 9, pokemons are finally accurately sized in battles since Lets Go games and I dont want Wailord to ruin that, who even uses this pokemon anyways, it has 45 stats in each defense despite being this large

also pokemon fans at it again, focusing on small 0.1% errors when 99.9% good things exist in the game

While I totally understand why gamefreak wouldn't want Wailord's in game model to match 1:1 to what it is in lore, it should at least be on the "bigger size" of pokemon considering that most legendary models tend to be on the bigger size. I think having the wailord be bigger than a person or the same size as a legendary is a good middle ground to show that it's a big pokemon, but keeping it easier to implement in game. Unfortunately the group that will bash gamefreak for anything and everything will always nitpick wailord's size
Yep, like I said, in battle it should be the same size as the following model. But I mean at least having the big Wailord following you is really cool.

Aww, thats a shame about losing the Wailord in Sword. Its not often you see big overworld Pokemon anymore and it added a lot of character to the DLC area that made it feel organic. I hope the Scarlet/Violet DLC does a similar thing, but I don't imagine they would.
