Awww thank u for making this videos. I’m 40 years old and thought i was bad at drawing and painting and the way u explain made it easier for me to do it❤❤
That was fun! I watched the previous videos and was still very nervous starting painting #1. It took me two hours, but I loved painting those cats. Love how you teach -- you give me confidence! I'm looking forward to the next painting. Thank you!
It was like you painted this just for me. Duncan, my white with Blue eyes, Himmy, blue point, died several years ago at 20. My black cat Witch-E-Poo (WAS, still alive when I painted this) with Green eyes, was short hair domestic, who lived for 22 years. It was just too perfect. My niece will be moving soon farther down VA and she has 2 yourng cats...gray and black. I will surprise her with this painting for her kitties also. Whom Ive grown to love while staying at her place sometimes when shes out of town. Althea
Has anyone else signed their paintings "Sherpa", from watching and just not paying attention at the end. I cant be the only one.
That is funny 😜🎨🖼
Same here 😂
First I must complement you both on your great graphics, fantastic camera work, and extra information making everything so user friendly even for a 75year old technophobe! My heart’s desire is to paint wildlife but even the best online wildlife artists assume we all know the basics so my first attempts were disappointing. I am so glad my search for ‘acrylic beginners’led me to you, you have produced a wonderful resource and are rightly proud of it. I have worked through from the beginning and am going to be faithful to your learning concept and work my way through all the paintings - another wonderful thing is that you provide downloadable ebooks so I can retreat to my caravan where there is no internet. How come you can do all this for free? I have yet to find anything asking for subscription or even a donation. My grateful thanks and very best wishes to you and John and your family. Barbara.
Thank you so so much. We do have patrons, but 99% of what we do is free, and we would never want anyone to feel obligated to patron us. 99% of all our tutorials will always be free. 💗
Good luck 🍀
I was an art major in college, and switched to a Social Worker degree. Spent 20+years as an investigator of child abuse. I retired, moved to texas from Connecticut 8 years ago and now work part time as a victim advocate for the county. I love art more than I can say! My inner
CRITIC has had me in her grips for years! So now I’m starting again. I’ve just finished your color theory sessions, and your not exaggerating the fact that this was not taught when I was in the art program! I’ve had to tell myself that I had to slow things down and learn! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you and thank you for your kindness and giving spirit.. it’s fun to actually learn all of what you offer, and feel confident that I’ll succeed. Sorry for the novella! Keep the faith
Thak you so so much. I hope this course is so useful for you 💞
Thank you so much for your lessons! I always thought I couldn't draw or paint even if my life depended on it. But I started watching videos on Internet just because the process of painting fascinates me, and I happened to find one of your lessons. You make it look easy but whats more important you make it look so much fun that I just had to try. I've watched all theory lessons in this course and I tried all those techniques and strokes and now I've painted those cats and it indeed was so much fun!
I'm going to go through all 10 paintings in this course and then through many more of your lessons (you have so many of them! and so many interesting!) and may be even some time I will brave painting something from my own fantasy. Thank you so much for being so much help and such a big inspiration.
Wow, thank you so so much and keep going. You WILL get there. 🌼
I started with the Art Sherpa 🎨 and I've came along way .. she the best teacher
Love your happy theme song , I just have to sing along and smile 😊 😀❤️❤️
I love it too!! It give me those early day happy vibes
Thanks!
You are so very welcome 🤍
I painted this pic but tweaked them to look like my siamese cats (I wish I could add a pic 😢) Rah & Osisris. Rah passed away 1 week ago so I've been looking for a way to paint them. I added a halo over Rah's head. Painting this really helped me feel better. Thank u for this! 🥰
So sorry for the loss of your fur baby, and you are most welcome 💙
Thank you for the tutorial. I painted along with you and it turned out not so bad.(no where close to yours though). Am quite proud of it still, as it is one of my first acrylic painting! Love from India! ❤
Wow! You have a special gift for teaching! Amazing!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wow, thank you 🌼
Love your videos😻
I am glad, thank you very much 💟
I just started my journey this week, and started this painting today. Thank you so much for such outstanding instruction, and great close-ups. I also truly appreciate the segment/chapter breaks, so that one can pause and rest at natural stopping points and allow drying time. You have a fantastic team - thank you for your efforts and generosity, and for inspiring us all to develop in our creativity and enjoy the journey!! (Bad pun: Looking forward to finding the appropriate "fang shui" for my kitties.)
You are so very welcome! Myself and the whole team thank you 💜
I learned a lot about my personal strengths and weaknesses with this project! I used a pencil instead of chalk to outline the flight path. I really need to get chalk!
Yeah!
Awwwww I just finished this my granddaughter is going to love this !!
I am working through this beginner series in anticipation of Acrylic April 2023. I am so excited for the abstract theme! As a retired educator I am so very impressed with your teaching. Thanks for breaking everything down into bite sized pieces. After dabbling in acrylic with a variety of tutorials these last 3 years I finally feel like I am learning how to paint. (and my cats are super cute!)
Have fun!
Me, too! All of what you wrote except being an educator. I'm super excited for the abstracts! I didn't think I would be interested until Cinnamon showed the paintings and then I got more and more eager to try them the further she got in the presentation!
I love this painting!! Your such a great teacher
thank you!
O my god sherpa I miss y'all soo much ❤️.....my best frnds birthday is coming and this one is perfect to gift him ..... can't wait to join everyone once my studies are over ❤️❤️❤️❤️ sending lots of love ....and wishes for the new journey 💕
Yay!!
Ur. So. Talented
Thanks a buch 🌻
Yay, I finished! My first in about 5 years. Not all that crazy about the job I did but have to start again somewhere!
Awesome 💖
My furbaby Pita is a black cat and his late brother Ike was white. I can't wait to paint this as a portrait of Pita and a tribute to Ike.
What an awesome tribute it will be. Sorry for the loss of your furbaby 💓
I got them both as kittens. They are/were Manx cats. Pita grew up to be healthy and strong and Ike died when he was only about 3 months old. This happens with Manx cats frequently. They call it Manx syndrome. It comes from the adaptation that shortens their spine (they are tailless cats.) Sometimes their spines are so weak that they become sickly making it hard for them to eat, poop, or groom themselves. When they have Manx syndrome there is nothing they can do.
Such a fun 1st lesson.
Thanks much 💟
My friend liked my painting so much, she asked to use it as screensaver for her phone!
That is Awesome. 🤍
Thank you thank you for another amazing lesson!!! This series has been amazing and we are learning so much! Thank you for all the great resources you provide!!!
You are so welcome! 💛
Thanks for this cute lesson Cinnamon & John.
Glad you enjoyed it! Pat Hopper Thank you so much
Thank you! I have been painting with your tutorials for a little over a year now. I went through some of AA 2020, then tried to keep up with AA2021, and then some of the Big Art Quest. Started this 2021 course and the funny cats was so helpful to my journey. Now to 2 cute red birds!
You are awesome👍!! Learning to dabble in the art world at 70 .I have learned so much from watching your videos. Very helpful.. Going to try this one for my great granddaughter.
She will love this for her room .You guys are a great team ..Again Awesome thanks for your videos and being patient with us ..lol Have a great day..🐝🐞🐛🐌💐💐💐
This is a great painting for any cat lover 🐈 🐈
Thanks so much 💕
That was fun. Thank you
Yay!
💕🇨🇦💕thank you!
Thank you for this video! Today was my first time painting and made awesome cats!!! I am a cat lover and own 3 awesome kitties! So fun!
How can I send you a picture of my Painting?
Oh My!! This one was too much fun! Thank You so MUCH for breaking it down into easy to follow steps! I love my version so much of this PRECIOUS tutorial! Great for kids to let you know their mood, adults too!
Thank you for being so devoted to teaching us how You create these delightful artworks for ourselves!
it is my absolute pleasure 😍
Thank you for doing this Cinnamon.
You are just so welcome 💛
Gotta redo. So far I am not fond of round brushes. But I think my was too big. Love brites, angled and fans.
Always use the brushes you like and that work for you. Yes, if your round was too big it would be a challenge. A #4 is a good size 💕
It helps to breathe while painting that's for certain. Thank for the lesson, I found out why the tip of my round was out of shape. Don't take a brush to the bottom of the cup to rinse looses sharpness :-)
Glad it helped! I am always thrilled to read when we get to the bottom of it
I love painting..I have watched many of your videos. Thank you for helping me become a more Confident painter.. I just bought my color wheel. . 😊
You are so welcome Pam B Thank you so much
I haven’t painted one of your creations since the valentine gnome. I love watching the videos but rarely paint. Well, I did this one for a friend. Her husband is going through cancer treatment and I thought it would make them smile. They have two black cats so I modified it. It’s so stinking cute! I’m just waiting to seal it and then ship it to them. I hope it makes them smile. It was fun to paint. I did do it on a flat surface. I found it easier with the diagonal to do it that way rather than an easel. Thank you for all that you do for people. Happy New Year.
That is is awesome and so thoughtful. I bet they love it 🌹
I did this painting today. I am trying each lesson and having a lot of fun. Thanks!
Welcome❤
That was really fun! Thank you🙂↔️
It did take me much longer than the length of the video to finish, but I feel really encouraged and looking very forward to the next. I also wanted to ask about canvas size. I did not have a 9x12 that you recommended, but I had an 11x14, so I taped the edges to create a white border while reducing the size to the 9x12. My question, was that the best thing I could do, or should I have just adapted the art work to fit the larger canvas?
I'm excited to do this one. There will be variations. I have a happy black cat and a grumpy calico. A friend has a happy black cat and a grumpy black cat and another friend has a happy dog and a grumpy cat. 😁
But we love them all don't we?🌺
II watched this twice . really like it. Doing later this evening and will post on Facebook
Please do, I love seeing everyones artwork 🌹
We have lovebug seasons here in FL LOL! I remember the 1st time I saw them flying about connected at the butt, I had just moved to FL and was like I knew about the size of mosquitos and that there were still dinosaurs in the lakes (gators) but no one warned me about the bugs that hooked their butts together and smashed themselves against your windshield!! I am going to paint this cute painting for my mother who is the crazy cat lady of her neighborhood lol. She will love it and this will be a great way to try acrylic painting again! Thank you so much!!
Awww, your mom will love it. 🤎
Thank you. My first tutorial with you after watching for a long time. It was great and I learnt a lot.
Great to hear! 💜
I did it
Learnt a lot from your courses. This was fun to paint!
Awesome!
Thank you
You're welcome 🧡
i like that i'm going to do this tomorrow
YAY, have fun with it 💜
Thank you so much Cinnamon - that was awesome ;) Took me way longer than you, but my first painting is done ;)
Wonderful, great job 🌷
@@TheArtSherpa oooo thank you so much :)
On the hair dryer, do you use warm or cool air? High or low speed? Thanks! ❤️
i m not new i paint along bit long but i do all these classes and today i done the first one .. well i have really big problems with lines and dots was great exercise and cute at the same time and it took me quit long time actually. I need a break from painting i m so tired but i think to continue and see how i m gonna break xD Thank you Cinnamon and John
Always take breaks when you need them. Don't overtire yourself, you can come back to the videos and back to your painting. Don't stress, it will come 😍
@@TheArtSherpa hm ok if u say it so i will try my best to do it. its hard to know when to take break thank you so much!
So adorable!! :D
Thanks much Mona 💟
@@TheArtSherpa 😘
Hello CC. Thank you for this beginners course. I've done my first painting! I couldn't do the bugs so did butterflies instead and cheated by doing my corrections with micron pens (my hands are a little shaky lol). Number 2 looks really difficult but I will attempt it.
You are welcome, and no such thing as cheating in art !! 🤍
Hi, I watched all your videos and love them. I finished my first painting of the 2 cats. How do you get sharp crisp fine lines? Is it from a special brush? If so, which one?
Say, I've started learning to paint since COVID. I started with kits that the wine and paint places put together to stay afloat. I really appreciate these videos because they're filling in lots of gaps. I do have a couple of questions, though. It's really hard for me to cover my canvas with the first layer. The paint just doesn't spread. I'm not sure if it's my technique or a problem with the paint or canvas quality. Second, I bought the stay wet palette and when I come back, the paint is too thin. Is there a trick to know the right amount of water for the sponge?
For the chalk, can I use a yellow pastel pencil?
😃
💙💙
I am visually impaired, very close to total blindness, everything blurry & often don't even see colors. But in an effort to do something I did in the past & very much enjoyed, I started to attempt to paint again. That being said, I search for easy CZcams videos that I can blow up on a huge screen & hopefully follow the audio to help me & lets see what happens. LOL! Just came across this searching for easy cats...I just might be able to do this!!! And even if it comes out a bit off, I might still be true to myself with the finished work! LOL! I will be using a 24" x 18" stretched canvas. I have 3 spots in an extended gallery on the compass where I live, to paint new works to replace the winter/Christmas display...These are the sizes I need to complete for my assigned areas. I would welcome any tips or advice for someone like me...almost blind reborn artist. HA! Thank you!!!
do projects and paintings that are easy and accessible to you!
I have not been able to paint in 4-5 years so I thought I would try again with these. Using Basics paint and Bristol board on this one as it is a practice painting and the only thing I have in 9x12. Not going to try that again:( Taking 3 times the paint and is very streaky and clumpy.
you can do it!
This was a good lesson in applying what we have learned so far, but I did the traceable and it came out wrong so I didn't finish yet...I had to make a bunch of adjustments...Thanks for a wonderful lesson.
Is there something about the traceable that needs to be fixed or what it another issue?
@@TheArtSherpa Oh, I am sure the traceable was fine, but it came out slightly different than yours and I was following you step by step so it through me off, and I had to go back and redraw most everything. I also am not used to Traceables, I never use Ginger's because I have Rapid Resizer, and I should have used that instead. Now that I see what everyone has posted, I see some of theirs is slightly a little different from yours, so it is just probably me being a sock folder again! Thank you for being as concerned as you are...
What size T Square do you recommend? I paint mostly 11x14 & 12x16. Will do larger as I improve. I just finished the 7 beginner videos which were amazing! Starting on cats soon :) Thank you for offering these lessons for free. They are exactly what I need!
Start with a 12" and invest in a larger metal one as you move into large canvas
@@TheArtSherpa thank you!
Black cats almost always have yellow-green eyes because of how the genes give them their pigment. It is unusual to see them with any other colors and the rare other color they do get is amber. You were right to give black kitty green eyes.
Hello Cinnamon I am really enjoying this series and I have a question not related to the above lesson but hopefully you can answer it. I watched your surface preparation lesson and was wondering how do you prepare a board you buy from the hardware store to leave the wood grain showing through that is with a clear preparation and then how do you seal your painting after? I notice that painting on particle board is becoming very popular, have you tried it and can you do a lesson on it? I have seen both watercolour and acrylic painted on them. Also you mentioned a product to use in scrap books that don’t let your paintings stick together, how do you use it please? Sorry for this long question , have to say your teaching style is one of the best I have ever seen thank you 😊💖💖💖
The surface prep lesson where ste up the paper left side with the GAC 100 and gesso is the same as for wood. When the painting is cured. You can varnish as usual and even frame as usual - I am going to give you a link to Bob who is another teacher i trust on youtube to have good info he has a perfect demo of the wax medium czcams.com/video/WSdl-XVcZr4/video.html
Loving this beginner series! Needing to prep paper in sketchbook to start painting these. (I HAVE A QUESTION THOUGH. WHEN PAINTING IN THE SKETCH BOOK I PLAN ON ONLY PAINTING ON ONE SIDE OF THE PAPER DO I STILL NEED TO USE THE DORLANDS WAX OR IS THAT ONLY FOR WHEN PAINTING ON PAGES FACING EACH OTHER WITH ACRYLIC, AND IF NOT DO WE NEED TO VARNISH WITH REGULAR VARNISH LIKE WE WOULD ON A CANVAS WITH PAGES NOT FACING ANOTHER ACRYLIC PAINTED PAGE IN A SKETCHBOOK.) I've learned so much in the prep classes ....and finally know what ppl are talking about when they mention different color harmonies ....and noticing color biases (the pdf from golden is amazing and exactly what I needed!) ...learning so much and really enjoying all these...have always wanted to paint and been a long time viewer just have been kinda stuck on knowing where to start and this series is exactly what I've been needing ....one suggestion though is when you are doing things like painting in the bugs your hand is blocking being able to see your brush strokes and how your painting as your painting and I think a side angle like you have done in past paintings would be really helpful to see what you are doing when painting those small details ....Thank you Cinnamon and John keep up the amazing work you really are doing amazing things for beginners like me. ❤
Love this thank you . I might be inclined to use the dorland's as acrylic just loves to stick to stuff I found a great video on how to put it on that way you are not wondering later czcams.com/video/WSdl-XVcZr4/video.html (Bob Burrage is awesome) dont vanish in a sketchbook outside of the Dorlands. So fully painted pages will stick always but single painted pages can stick in certain conditions so its a great idea to seal if possible for longevity and so you can store and see your art years later
Also 100% hear you on the bug we lost the close up angle camera for that but its fixed now and your close ups will be back
@@TheArtSherpa thanks cinnamon .....I'll have to add it to my list and will definitely check out the video ...I have seen some of his videos before and hes awesome .....I managed to prep one page last night ....it took me forever to get just one page done 😅 ....was thinking of taping down a page.... prepping it..... letting it dry well..... then taping down the next page on top ....prepping it.... letting dry fully.... and repeating till I have all pages done and ready to go and be ready to use as soon as I untape the one I've used on top ....I hope all that makes sense (kinda like a taped for acrylic version of a water color pad maybe? Lol) ....since the gesso is on top and doesn't feel very sticky like plain acrylic I hope I dont end up with 10 pages sealed together 😅
@@TheArtSherpa THANK YOU for this link! I didn't think to look at his channel. You so Rock!!!💖
Love cold wax medium, so many uses!!! I've used on leather to keep it from molding!!
With the tracing chalk. Which would you recommend? I'm a beginner painter. I've been a seamstress for 20 years and I know with marking pen there are crappy that don't come out ones and really good ones.
Either regular chalk board chalk, or dritz tailors chalk
Is there still a facebook group for this course? Loving it!
We do have a facebook group you can share your paintings too, Not just for this course but all my tutorials facebook.com/groups/TheArtSherpa 🌺
Always a great video. But could you please use a different colour chalk on white? Its so hard to see yellow on white.
Great suggestion!
I've got to agree with this. I ended up using the painted version to see what I needed to sketch with the chalk. On camera on my TV, I couldn't see any contrast.
Stupid question. Thought I downloaded the mini book for this, but can’t find it. Using an Ipad
I am watching this on replay and two drops of water do not make the sennelier paints fluid enough for the strokes you are demonstrating - what am i missing?
HELP! HOW DO YOU GET THE ROUND BRUSH TO HAVE SUCH A FINE POINT? HUGE PROBLEM OF MINE
Practice. 😋 I've been filling up pages in a mixed media sketchbook trying to maintain the minimum pressure necessary to get a mark without losing contact with the page. My longest thin lines tend to be spirals.
SHERPA !!! What can I use in place of Arteza Primary Yellow? The Abstract Primary Yellow is on backorder.
Do you have the Arteza Primary Yellow and if yes is it causing trouble? If its working it should be fine but of you are not liking the paint Hansa Yellow and Azo yellow can be good alts
@@TheArtSherpa I finally received my Arteza Primary Yellow. Thanks
i do not have chalk . How would you suggest i make the heart and the lines?
With a chalk pencil, watercolor pencil, or in a pinch use a regular pencil just be sure to use a light touch 💙
I purchased some 9x2 panels for this class. It seems like, no matter how much water/paint I put on my brush, the panel is "sucking" it all off and I'm using more paint than I have on regular paint canvas... ideas? Did I buy too inexpensive a panel? They say triple primed with Gesso.a
Gesso is very thirsty by nature I have had good canvases that just sucked the paint out of the brush. Gesso does not seal. You may want to use 2 or 3 coats of white acrylic to seal it the way we might paper
@@TheArtSherpa thank you
I am trying this, on my third time watching the video, you are so fast. A little confused about color mixing technique. I thought you told us to take the most pigmented color to the white to mix which you did to paint the background, but to make the pink you took the white to the red, then mixed the purple with the blue and red, then took the white to it to make it a lighter purple. Did I miss something in the color mixing technique? Anyway, course is great, back to basics is always a good thing. Thanks....
Great questions.!!! Sometimes from experience I make a lot of on-the-fly decisions about my paints management. I will move 2 colors closer to each other to do the mixes or move something in a new clean area of the palette. another good thing to know is that sometimes where it's very important for beginner to do something I have a lot of experience I can almost eyeball any color mix just from memory. That's said I will try to be present to this in the future lessons to comment on it as I go as a way to help. You keep doing what I said which is to take dark as color in small amounts to your lighter color. One of the things many long-time viewers do is they watch a video first and then painted because even when I'm going slow I'm going fast because of the nature of learning from video.
hi everyone
Hi Karen 💞
Do you have/can you paint a step by step of a blue crab?
No all Red crabs so far but a blue crab would be lovely to paint. Try Angela Anderson and Ginger Cook Live as they have done marine step by steps and may have painted one
@@TheArtSherpa thank you much!
I thought I watched all the beginning and I didn’t’t hear why not to paint flat. Which video I’ll rewatch?
Set up a home studio. Painting flat can cause neck and back injury over time because of the way we bend ourselves to see the painting , my turntable does help me address that
CAN YOU DO A PAINTING WITH FLAMES USING PAINTS THAT NEED MULTIPLE COATS? PLEASE!
Love this series of classes. Having trouble creating acct or login. States my email is invalid. Help please.
Please write support@theartsherpa.com and they can help with that. 💚
Can you let me know why this was so hard but I've been painting along with you for a year now and I've done three hoots and they were easier than this was for me to me that doesn't make any sense
I find that her harder paintings come out better for me as well, but simple ones do not turn out great for me... No clue why but I'm glad to know I'm not alone.
What do you sign.? I put my full name
In the past have always done just my last name and now Sherpa just to keep it simple
Hello mam, I just completed my first painting from your Beginner lessons. I would like to get your opinion and your inputs for improving my painting. Please let me know where I can share it with you 😊

I tried to contact HP with the following question but the question would not go through. I don't know if there is anyone out there that has had the same problem but if there is I would appreciate some help. I would hate to think that I can't use any traceables from theartsherpa.
This is what I tried sending to HP. There is nothing wrong with my printer. I have a question about my printer. I am taking a beginner art class and I need to be able to print traceables. I need to print them out on an 8 1/2 x 11 but will be putting the traceable on a 9x12. Does that make sense? They have an Epson printer that can make the correct size printable. I know nothing about printers or math so I hope you can help me.
I am worried you may have an old email or contact we missed removing did you send the question so support@theartsherpa.com I am not sure what is happening exactly with your printing I use a standard printer for my traceables that go on the 9x12 size surfaces and generally they work at Scale to Fit on my printer setting.
