    The passenger side only has a SRS sticker if it has a passenger airbag.
    To get those rear head rest pins out you use a 13mm socket at the other end of them and pop them out of the hole in the metal they are pushed into.

    Common for these to have clear coat fail by now. Lovely car. Usually only 6 years on tyres. Commodores are lovely for youtube...I started following you from the VN :) . Since your a clean freak, get you products from places like Waxit or Detail Central in concentrate. Cheaper in the long run. Optimum interior cleaners or Gyeon are great. Turtle Wax Carpet Spot cleaner the best for those trouble areas. Try to stay away from Orange cleaners for interiors and fabrics and they do turn yellow after a long time. Also vehicle specific doesn't attach the backing glues or leech tannins to the top like a dirty water mark. Love your work.

    The rear has air shocks. Same as my caprice. I lowered mine with standard ones. You just disconnect the compressor. You may be able to get lowered air shocks or lower the standard ones by adjusting the ride height sensor, Im not sure.

    • @gusman6833
      @gusman6833 Před měsícem

      Yes you are correct, they are air operated shocks in the rear. Part of the auto ride leveling system equipped as standard in the VR Senator. Compressor mounted to the rear cross member and a position sensor on the lower trailing arm. If you put the whole family in the back seat you will hear the compressor start up to keep the ride height the same. The first thing people did was get rid of this system when lowering/upgrading suspension. Probably rare now to find one with it still still intact. Would suggest an offset bracket for the position sensor at what height you want to modify/ lower. Depending on the allowable drop in the spring etc. Great car love your channel, had one one from almost new back in the day.

Remember when looking at tail lights the hsv ones were different colour to stock commodore. They maybe the same as Calais I can’t remember as the senators were based off the Calais. Loving the car. Great to see that you have the plates. I assume you will just put them away for posterity. Real shame the front one had some stone chips. I am not a huge car fan like yourself. But I always fit a number plate protector to the front of my cars. Keeping the back one as a spare, as the rear plate doesn't need it. In regard to the roof, if it was mine, I would bite the bullet and have it resprayed. Why? because even if you have it cut & polished it will still have the stain. In VR/VS level ride was only fitted to the caprice by Holden, and later VS Statesmans as an option.
      HSV had it as an option or standard on certain VR/VS cars (like this Senator) and enhanced models, and it involved a custom HSV patch harness to make it work. In later models it became more readily available (and simpler with the wiring).

      @@KDSCARS I had it in my VS2 Calais (HSV enhanced with a number of options including level ride). As a daily, chucking stuff in the boot, it kept it from dragging the back end down. Same when we’d load up for a weekend away - it stayed level, and it dramatically reduced the toe wear from the back end drooping. Even better was when we’d chuck the trailer on and 4 of us would go interstate on our annual swap meet runs. We tore the inside off the rear left tyre 2 years in a row in the VS statesman, but never had that issue in my Calais because it wasn’t drooping and doing the camber squat. The guys at a street commodores Dyno day didn’t listen to me, and wondered why it (the compressor) was running when they were strapping it down. They wouldn’t let me into the workshop to pull the fuses. I thought it was going to blow the shocks apart! They had to get crowbars to release the ratchet straps…... the tyre gap was like 10 inches when it shot back up under pressure.
      But eventually it aged enough to where it would leak around the shock body, and the compressor would cycle on & off way too much, causing the dreaded fear that it may not start on the next crank. I ended up pulling the fuses when parked overnight to stop it running on. When I fitted firmer springs I fitted regular shocks in place of them. These days people don’t use these cars as daily drivers, and from VX2 they added the toe links, so it’s of less importance, but back then it worked well.

      @@commodorenut I just put two and two together of who you are and if I am correct you may have been a forum moderator many moons ago on the street commodores forum?
      I guess in terms of usability the level ride was good most people of todays era enjoy the 'carolina squat' ( looks like shit ). Its funny you mention you the toe wear as I vividly remember a clients VX always towing a horse float and it would always present with intact tyres every 6 months whereas a normal 6 month interval VX would present with cords or belts showing from the RE92's, so they did serve a purpose.

    THE TYRES WILL BE FINE. I drove on 30 year old tyres for years

      also, when tyres are driven on carbon black is brought to the surface which prevents the rubber from cracking due to UV light and ozone. If you have an old tyre that hasn't been driven on much, the carbon black hasn't been replenished at the surface and therefore it's more prone to cracking. The cracks can be inside of the tyre so you can't see them unless you remove the tyre from the wheel. The first you know about it is when it stops holding air... Old tyres looking brand new is therefore possibly even more dangerous than the same age tyres that are near bald.
