- Hey guys, this is my first ever youtube video so ignore my shaky hands and poor camera work lol. By no means do I consider myself an automotive technician or mechanic but I recently installed these headlights and I’ve figured some things out while messing with them the last couple days and wanted to post this video to help anyone else who’s debating on buying these or those who’ve already purchased and need help with anything. Leave all your questions, concerns and any suggestions for videos you wanna see in the future such as how these perform and updates on my liking towards them. I’ll leave my socials here in case you want to contact me directly instead of waiting for me to reply to a comment. Thanks !

True,,, No direction in the Box... They don't mention that the bolt holding the lamp in has to be removed ,,,,after popping off the hard plastic wwheel well protective liner. And to line that bolt back up , I wish I had paid the $250 for the Install.
Not trying to be to critical, I like what you did and said but you need to work on your camera work,
Excellent video just got these headlights for Christmas and didn’t realize I’d have to use the fuse box in the truck! I’ll try out both ways later! Thank you!
thank you for the feedback, merry christmas bro🤙🏼
Hey bro I’m looking to getting these headlights for my taco, did you ever get hyperflash? Did you have to wire a capacitor? Thanks!
Thanks for the vid. Learn how to rotate video please.
does anyone else have issues with the color changing randomy along with the off vs on?
I tried this after the installation and still nothing
Yes! I am trying to keep them white but they keep randomly changing or both of them while driving.
Did you find a fix for this?
This worked for my morimoto xb hybrids too on my 13.
Yes they go on and off, they also started acting up blinkers stop working and if you put fog lights on one light turns orange and one side daylights are on!Think one of plugs is loose goes away after I go threw plugs!
dang that sucks, definitely sounds like a serious problem. i’d suggest double checking you’re wiring and your power source you have it wired to.
if you have any questions you can message me on instagram as well
That explains why the DTR lights that were wired in as an import vehicle came on in the middle of the night.
How are they one year later?
no complaints
@@TRDAidan appreciate you!
I know this is a few years old, but thanks for clarifying that. I just ordered mine and I saw one of the videos you mentioned. It seemed wrong to me pretty quick and I am not surprised it causes problems. How have yours held up?
I sold the truck around november of last year, up until then i had no issues whatsoever
Excellent video. Thanks. I purchased the "Pro Series" and wired it up to the fuse box under the hood like many others. The issue I have that just started happening is the driver side blinker blinks extremely fast (think it's called hyperflashing). Sometimes it does it to the passenger side blinker buts it's very random. Not sure if this is related to being connected to the fuse under the hood. I plan on moving it to the fuse under the steering wheel. Hopefully that fixes that issue.
Another annoying thing I noticed is when using the blinker there is a good 1/2 sec to a sec delay when using your blinkers. Not sure if anyone else has noticed it. Weird minor issue but kinda annoying.
do you have aftermarket tail lights or led bulbs in your tail lights?
@@TRDAidan No aftermarket tail lights. Just the OEM tail lights that came with my truck.
No LED bulbs either in any of the lights
okay. hopefully when you rewire it that’ll fix your problem. on another note i noticed the delay too, but i’m not sure there’s a way around it
@@TRDAidan Yeah i think the delay is normal cause it has to figure out if the DRLs need to be running or being used as a turn signal. As you mentioned I don't think there is a way to fix that either. It might have to be something we just live with and deal with it.
i double checked my wiring and went ahead and moved the wire to fusebox under the dashboard. Hopefully it resolved my lights randomly coming on when the truck is off.
However, it did not resolve my hyper flashing with my turn signals. Seems like i notice it even more! I am still having the same problem and actually now my DRLs completely shut off and stay off when the truck is running. A few minutes later the DRLs pop back on.
My lights blink like crazy but its very random. Works fine for a few miles and then acts up and then goes back to working like normal.
I checked the remaining lights (bulbs) and none are burned out.
Now I did replace the 2 small rear license plate lights with LEDs about 2 months ago (before i installed these Alpharex lights). Didnt have any issues with them before. I don't think those would cause the turn signals to have hyperflash or cause the DRLs to not come on at all. But i could be wrong. Maybe i'm overthinking it. Or maybe i got a bad batch of lights.
Anyways i got videos of it happening so the only thing i can think of sending those to Alpharex's Customer Service and see if they can help resolve it or send me replacements. I've only had them on my truck since early May 2021 and just started experiencing issues in early/mid June 2021.
Thanks for your video/help. Appreciate it.
I have a concern regarding my lights. Although they are working fine, I have noticed that they randomly change from white to amber, and sometimes only one side turns amber while the other remains white. Sometimes when I turn my truck on they stay Amber when I want them to stay white. Can you give me any advice on how to prevent this from happening?
Is your drl too bright? mines are too bright, do you know a way to dim them
I have the same grill! How did you get the rubber strip to stay on the grill?
i didn’t unfortunately. i had ordered the grill originally a few months back and destroyed it by getting it covered in glue in attempts to get that weathering strip on, i just ended up ordering a second one and getting a bug and rock shield instead to close the gap.
Super glue
Is it stuck on with sticky tape or something? The factory is on with clips.
I just installed it and a found a 3M gasket/weather strip glue for autos on Amazon.
Thank you for this video Aidan. I went through the firewall which kinda sucked but thought worth it. So I have driver's side headlight DRL not working. Also have the headlights operate differently than each other when I turn on parking or headlights. Any suggestions on what you think might be problem? I appreciate the input. I love these lights and definitely don't wanna go back through removal and reinstall if it's a simple fix.
I’d double check your wiring. Make sure both headlights have the DRL harness correctly and then make sure they have the correct connections between the two headlights themselves.
Hey, insightful vid. Had a question though. I got the pro for my 2009 and there’s videos of the drl amber not white. I’m trying to change it, I looked in the hosting and everything is plugged in. Does anyone know of its possible for the pro to have the drl amber all the time?
There’s a way to get it and I believe it’s by not running the drl harness if you truck didn’t come factory with drls. But at that point you’d be having your lights wired incorrectly, which could cause damage or other issues. So do with that what you will
So I wired mine today and for some reason the dlr is orange and not white, it also dosent flash when I unlock/ lock the truck (I know it won’t dance but it should still flash orange) did I wire something wrong? I thought my truck came with dlr but maybe not? Idk I’m stuck I need some help 😅
Is it amber while both driving and in park? Most likely your truck didn’t have daytime running lights and you needed the harness. That’s the main solution most of the people with that problem have, besides incorrect wiring
@@TRDAidan well I missed that damn yellow cord in the driver side headlight. Works great now!! Thanks for the quick response
@@andrewpittman9708 😂dope. have a good one🙌🏼
Regarding power supply piggy back to 15 amp ign terminal in dashboard.
To maintain proper polarity, the pigtail will need to be directed up which will cause great stress on the bent wiring and fuse terminal. This is a potential hazard.
I have previously installed aftermarket led taillights.
When the front Alpha Rex pro series headlights were installed, I had hyper flashing problems.
I installed 6 ohm 50 watts resistors to each, rear flasher bulb supply to ground and solved this problem. Be sure to mount (screw on) resistors to metal wall in taillights housing as heat sink as resistors become very hot.
Conecte todo mi Tacoma es 2015 con stock drl pero no prendió así que tube que regresar el fusible y desconectar el harness así prende y funciona todo bien pero porque no jalará con el harness conectado?
I love your grill bro Do you happen to have the part number for that grill we’re you bought that grill??
it’s not oem there’s no part number
Why did you film your video like that man you got me dizzy!
Rip that sucks
How do you replace the high beam bulbs?
Awesome tips man, I have a ' 12 and have been looking at the luxx headlights and taillights for some time now, been reading alot of reviews and watching videos, I'm about to make the jump and order them both, have u had any issues lately with condensation, lighting or lack of lighting, etc??
not at all, definitely worth the investment. glad i went with this brand over others
@@TRDAidan awesome 👍🏽I'm definitely getting them then, thanks!
Hey Aiden, just wondering about this. I have had these lights for about 2 years on my 06 TRD sport and I love them, however, the DRL functions don’t work like I think they should. My LED’s and low beam are on at all times and I cannot understand how to get the low beam off and just LED’s on for the DRL look. I did get the DRL kit and installed it how they say to when I did the original install.
Any advice? Thanks!!
If you have drls do u have to wire in the harness bc i ordered the headlights without the harness and they still came with it.
if the truck came from factory with DRLs then you don’t need to run the harness. alpharex has detailed instructions on their website for install with / without the harness
Hi… I like the grill … where are you getting from??
Thanks for the information - very helpful! I have the exact same grill and lights on my 2007 Tacoma.
John I to have 2007 Tacoma and have the same issues with the lights turning on randomly. Did you try the same installation method. Curious to know.
@Antonio Guevara Yes. Once I ran the wire through the fire wall and into the interior box, it worked perfectly. My issue now is blinker hyper-flash when the night headlights are on. Tried resistors, but still no luck.
When you ordered your Alpharex headlights, did you also get the conversion wiring kit as well. That soLved my problem as well, but to be honest with you I had the same problem. But after seeing the installation video again I saw where I missed a step.
Did yall splice the wire to make it long enough for the interior box ??
where did you order those from im looking for the drl harness and cant find it anywhere
The harness can only be ordered with the headlights at alpharexusa.com
@@TRDAidan so I bought mine from extreme terrain. And what you saying is I have to send the back get my money back and then buy the headlights off of alpha Rex
@@TRDAidan ????
@@dominickrauel760 that’s a little more complicated. Usually the harnesses aren’t sold separately, but you can contact alpharex through instagram or email and explain and see if they’ll send you one
I have the Pro Series and looking for a way to not have the day time running lights on when the truck starts and the lights on in the off position on the control. The running lights come on once the truck is started and if I turn the running lights on they get dimmer. Any help to bypass this would be appreciated. I do a lot of might fishing and camping and don't want to running lights to always be on. Thanks!
unfortunately these are a drl style headlight so the light bars are going to be on in almost every application if the truck is powered up. it’s normal for the drls to get slightly dimmer when the main bulbs come on, but if the drls aren’t your style i’d suggest a different brand. these are heavily built around that feature and as far as i know there’s no way around it
@@TRDAidan thanks for the response, much appreciated!
did you punch a hole through the little boot that goes through the firewall to route the fuse into the cab fuse box?
yes
As far as getting my the wiring through the boot just take a fishing tape or stiff wire of some sort. Please be gentle and don’t jab through a wire. Go to the outside of the wire bundle use a little wd40 or soapy water and push it through between the outside of the worse and the boot. Once your through the boot clean your feed tool and tape your wire to whatever your using then pull it back through.
where do you get your grill from I like your grill I like to buy one can you tell me How I can get too okay
the company i got it from isnt around anymore. just look up trd pro style grill for second gen tacoma
for the grill lights you plugged the piggy bank into the 10A EF I NO.2 ?? It’s the fuel injection system fuse apparently. Do you take the 10A fuse and put it on the piggy bank and the piggy bank goes into the slot of where the 10A was in the fuse box ? Right? Just making sure cause I can’t find a video of a second gen Tacoma showing which fuse to use.
yeah ef no. 2. piggy back fuse with a 10 and a 5 into that spot where the 10 was
that’s where to plug it in if you want them on whenever your truck is on. if you want them to come on with your lowbeams it’s a different spot
@@TRDAidan ohhh okay yeah I want the lights to be on when the truck is on. Thanks!!!!!!
Where do you think I can get an extension cable to reach the fuse box?
all i did was by the same gauge wire and solder them together
@@TRDAidan Thanks for the info! very helpful video
@@maxmendoza618 🙏🏼 thank you
What gauge wire is it?
Very informative! Thanks!!
Can you change the DRL to amber? And how?
Not for this gen. On the 2.5 (11-15) you can though
How can i know if my 2005 tacoma come with DRLs , can you take a picture to help me
Turn your truck on, remove the ebrake then put it into drive and you should see you have the small orange lights on in the inner corner of the headlights (if you have them) if you do this and nothing comes on then you don’t have daytime running lights
@@joshuaberman5339 is there any way to install DRL's or did it have to come like that from factory?
Thank you !
Cool looking Truck!
Where can I get the wire harness ? I can’t find it on Amazon
you order it with the headlights.
@@TRDAidan didn’t give me the option when I bought it on Amazon
@@geravalencia03 you’ll have to contact. alpharex support. they don’t sell them separately
How do you know if you have daytime running lights on a 09 Tacoma?
if the cars on and in drive, and you have the headlight nob turned all the way towards you (off) and there’s still orange lights on in the headlights, those are your daytime running lights
I have the other model of the luxx headlights for my 2008 Tacoma and it doesn’t do the dance thing when locking/ unlocking, is there a reason why?
Do you have the luxx model itself? Or the pro? Only the nova and luxx series do the dance, the pro series don’t.
@@TRDAidan I have the luxx model crystal headlights
@@Jet022602 If you have the luxx model and you’re using the key fob it should be doing the sequence whenever you click it. I suggest making sure everything’s wired correctly
@@TRDAidan it does the light dance when I turn the egnition. But not when I lock/unlock the car
Work for a Tacoma 2013??
alpharexusa.com/product-category/performance-lighting/toyota-tacoma-2012-2015/ there you go👍🏼
If you don’t have drl and you buy the drl harness will your drl been on all the time?
yes
@@TRDAidan if there a way to not have them on all the time and did you switch the halogen bulb to leds?
@@heryanbenavidez7472 no. and no, they came with leds built in. only the pro series come with halogen bulbs
I noticed your grill. I want the same one. How do you like it. I see folks complain about the fitment. Did you buy on eBay?
You got instagram? It’ll be easier to talk there. Mine is trd.aidan
How does yours do that lock unlock sequence and it's a pro series? I have the exact same ones but mine don't do that
i don’t have the pros. i have the luxx series. sorry if there was any confusion
Hey Aiden, thanks for the informative video. I just installed the same lights on an 09 Taco, all looked good, then my running lights began to randomly display in amber instead of white. If i use key fob to cycle lights and they turn white then display is normal when i start. do u ever get this issue?
My apologies, but I don’t think i really understand what your issue is. The headlights for this generation don’t have an option to keep the lights amber permanently, they only are amber when the truck is parked and the parking brake is on. otherwise the lights remain white until the turn signals/ hazards are turned on. Get back to me , i’ll try to help as much as i can
Thanks for the reply Aiden, my issue was operator error. I just didn't realize parking brake amber mode. Lights look good, are working correctly I got the Luxx as well and disabled the small white running light, super easy. I went through firewall surprisingly easy, also have you seen the new Alpha Luxx tail lights, I got mine on order should be in stock soon? Your video was super helpful to me and just what I needed to know. Keep up good work
@@dabbles1000 awesome, glad you have everything running smooth! and yes i have seen them, they look awesome. im hoping to order mine within the next week or so and ill probably make a video on it. thank you again for the feedback, means alot.
@@dabbles1000 what did you do to stop them from turning amber randomly?
Although mine are working fine, I have noticed that they randomly change from white to amber, and sometimes only one side turns amber while the other remains white. Sometimes when I turn my truck on they stay Amber and I don't have the parking brake on. Can you give me any advice on how to prevent this from happening?
Do these fit good and have a good beam pattern?
I’d like to know if they last but looks like you haven’t had them long enough to know that.
I’m leaning toward the luxx series but haven’t decided on projector or not.
Hey do your fog light work with the headlight on ( my fog light are only turning on DRL)
i apologize but i can’t really answer that one for you, i have my fog lights wired separately into a whole separate switch in my cabin.
What year is your truck ? Which grill is that ?
it’s an 07🤙🏼 mcautoparts.com/products/05-11-tacoma-front-grill
Nice Tacoma
did you pull out your 15 and insert it into the back of the
fuse cable for the headlights?
yeah, into the 15a ignition fuse
@@TRDAidan ok! So the 15 fuse goes into the back into the wire, and then back into the fuse box corrext
@@jayhawk1204 it should be 10a and a 5a on the piggy back, then that goes into the slot where the 15a was

that sucks
Heads up, I watched a video of the install and ended up frying my oxygen sensors so don't place the fuse there.
Where did u get your grille from? I've been trying to find one for ages now. Also do you know if I can swap out the light bulb on any of them?

well i did say that multiple times in the video so glad you’re at least listening 😂

probably, ill plan to do a video that’s an actual review of them and whatever else you’re looking for, that wasn’t the direction i was taking with this video but i appreciate the feedback 👍🏼
that's not what the vid is about 🤨 its about wiring tips not how it lights up
Is your drl too bright? mines are too bright, do you know a way to dim them
they don’t dim. they’re leds, they gone be bright lol
