They do that deliberately. I've been a community organizer for more than 25 years. When "undercover" cops turn up with shades and buzzcuts and overly-large jackets to hide their guns like they're cosplaying the Terminator, they're there to be seen so that you'll stop looking for the _real_ undercovers who look exactly like everyone else.

@@Shek1nah There's one way you can spot them, though: their shoes. Most undercovers won't buy shoes just for their undercover work. They're black, usually immaculate, and if you can get a good look at their treads, cop shoes usually have a pretty distinctive tread. That's how we've caught them in the past.

Psych really changed for me with the later seasons tho. I liked it better when the episodes were more 1 offs instead of them all being somehow related. It was either when Lassie got a gf/married or when Jules found out Shawn was a fake that kinda marked the downfall for me, obviously she would’ve needed to know before the end but there were better ways to do it that didn’t span half a season. I actually stopped watching the show there. Recently I rewatched the series and decided to continue to the end and after that whole arc settled down it seemed better, but not quite as good as the first few seasons.

All the people complaining "they did a terrible job of being undercover" they weren't undercover. They were there to arrest the doctor during which they would be immediately identifying themselves as cops. Did they really expect that they were planning "Hey, I'm an insurance sales man out on my lunch break, I happen this evidence on me that you murdered a woman. I'm placing you under arrest, as an insurance salesman, because that's what I am. Not a cop. Okay let's go you're under arrest. And you can thank that guy over there for solving the case. He's a taxi driver".

I stopped watching mainstream tv in 1980 when cable came on the scene. Rarely after 1990. When, I heard the tv series Monk, I figured more hollywood junk.
Anyway, I started watching some weeks ago, near the end of the series. Needless, I was surprised. It was quirky but Avant Garde for 2008.
I started watching season 1. The 2 hr pilot was good but different from how the directing, acting and editing are of seasons to come. These episodes feel more serious comedy but in episode 3 when Randy has more lines and I can start to see the transition to more of a comedic , almost caricature type acting with some serious drama. Also, there is even a new opening instrumental tune for the 3rd episode. This tune finally ends up the guy who wrote "Short People" circa 1978.
I can say it is a jungle out there but with Advisory Detective Monk on case he can use his hand jive and figure where this goes in regards to my 1960,70s variety of dramas, comedies and Columbo.

The "Six Way Killer" sounded fake to me. You can only be killed one way.
It reminded me of the Agatha Christie novel "The ABC Murders"
Neither killer's motive made sense if you thought about it.

In the Agatha Christie novel, it made sense. He wanted his brother's share of the money, so he murdered him. However, he didn't want to be the prime suspect, so he hid his murder among a bunch of other murders made to look like serial killings. He was attempting to throw the scent off of him, by making his brother's murder look like one of many random victims of a perpetrator that wasn't himself. Then, he would inherit all of the money when Lady Carmichael died from natural causes.
