I love that Blinks game. The potential is amazing. It was like watching someone design a chess board for the first time.
I'd recommend buying a portable microphone b4 the time for a next convention you're going to visit comes.
That game Blinks looks like a really interesting concept ngl
Exactly what I was thinking
Yeah it looked super creative and interesting. Definitely looks like something I would buy and play with friends
23:24 "and once you started to commit ideas to paper, it's real, you're a real game designer." This guy is great.
He's a real one
Yeah gatekeeping in the game dev space is very real, and usually done by people who have big egos and don't want to feel like their many years of experience are somehow discredited because an amateur enters the space and calls themselves a game designer. I've been doing game dev stuff for 2 decades and honestly if you sat down today and started sketching out ideas for a game, you're a game designer in my eyes.
Dude you inspire many game developers Thank you for it
This uninspired me
seconded
I have no time to watch the video to the end but I will do so later. But what I wanted to say is that it is really cool to see these game developer vlogs!
Hey miz, great video. One thing that you could put subtitles for the people at the game conversation
for me as a non english person I had a really bad time understanding it
Only hear noise
Same here.
It's not just you, as a native english speaker I struggled with this and the auto-generated subtitles really didn't cut help
Thanks so much for sharing this. I have some temporary medical issues being addressed so I wouldn’t be able to do this sort of thing right now. Was great to attend vicariously through you. You asked a lot of great questions. Looks like you had a great time yourself so that is very cool. I liked you comment for the need to “recharge you social batteries”, as I could totally related. I’ll look for you on Tik Tok 😀
Hope everything gets better for you. Life is tough.
This video is super relaxing in a way. Cons usually end up giving me some minor anxiety but its nice just watching this POV going to the different booths!! Thanks for the video :)
Cool games, interesting chats, chill travel vlog stuff, I love it. Did not expect to finish the video wanting to build a bear
Hey, small gripe, but the audio here is a bit hard to follow and there are no prewritten subtitles. Like the autocaptions aren't bad (really impressive actually), but there are also long stretches of [Music].
hopping into time machine and visiting gamedev con where they announced such games as "catch", "family", "hide and sick", "doctor" and "cops and robbers"
That blinks game looks really well done and quite interesting to play, great stuff
Yo thanks for checkin' the booth!
Love how everyone is always looking up, shows how tall you are haha
Fun Fact: That hotel room would cost more than the White House if you wanted to purchase it. This was cool, thanks for sharing!
Ahhh the Free Market, what an invention...
Nice, good change of pace in terms of content type.
Yeah my first convention was really cool as well, although you get the different change when they find out you aren't a "real" freelance dev and are in fact still a college student
13:26 - Oh no. He has become powerful enough to drink a smoothie through his mask.
LMAO!!!!!
Conventions are fun and a great way to just be social and make connections but your concerns about them being worth it or not aren't misplaced. It's a lot easier to get your game known by simply sharing it on social media than to go to a convention and get a booth. The whole getting a booth and talking to a few hundred people thing really is just about hopefully making a connection with a publisher or other developers you might be able to work with.
At the end of the day, having a booth at a convention just helps some people feel like their game is "real" and that can be pretty comforting in itself. But from the research I've done it doesn't seem like a good use of time/money if you're just looking to promote your game and get new fans.
Btw the movie is "Minority Report" 😁 I actually remember liking it back in the day
P.S> this guy on 23:00 is actually nice, I've heard that 1000 times, yet it's still inspiring to see people welcoming others to their craft/hobby
I love your content, keep it up.
Aww I ran a booth at playnyc a couple years back was a fun time :)
Love the variety shown here
And yeah, your game would make a killing on TikTok, especially comparison videos like where it started/where it is now
Wow all of these games look amazing honestly
that was a lot of fun to watch
Beat the Bomb! I did that in New York, highly recommend anyone visiting NYC to go with friends!
I wish CZcams’s captions were a bit better. At parts I can’t make out the talking, but manual captions are a decent amount of extra work
So proud that you made it to BloxCon!
This is like a smaller version of PAX or BOSTON FIG.
The floor is covered with all kinds of exhibitors all excited to talk about their game and it's always fun no matter how small
What a great video. Thanks so much for showcasing all these indie games that barely get coverage. So many new threads to follow, granted I'm not too deep in the community but, I had heard of NONE of these. The build a bear scene was flawless. There was a communist manifesto under the table lol. The people you interviewed from anthropic studio and kinsoul studio were super inspirational. 10/10 vlog.
YOOOOO MIZIZIZIZIZIZIZIZIZIZIZIIZIZIZIZZIIZIZIZUZZZIZI VLOG
indeed
everyone is talking about blinks but no one is talking about build a dare
Sad to hear that some folks struggled with hearing the video. I understood with some intense focus, lol. 😅
What was the instrumental in the beginning?
Part of the title of the video cut off and I thought it said “What it’s like going to a game convention as a gamer”lmao
It's a bummer I didn't showcase this year, otherwise I would have met you there! ☹
This is a gold mine, thank you! Does anyone know what the bear says? I can't quite hear it.
@samtheyare thank you! What did yours say? I'm keen to take my family to a Build A Bear over here in the UK but concerned that my daughter death metal growls into anything that even resembles a microphone!
Please add Flesh Automaton as a collectable secret Wrought Flesh or something, haha!
The Beast Awoke gives me Tomb Raider vibes
blinks is poggers
Kinda random and off topic, but I just purchased Intersection and level 23 seems to be unbeatable on my system, same problem as a few others in the Steam Community tab for the game since release. Someone suggested releasing a save for people to download so they can have access to all the levels even if they're having this issue. I was enjoying the beginning of the game and was looking forward to playing more, but I understand that you've moved on from the project, so you may not have the time or energy to address this.
Those 26 minutes went by quickly!
This was a really useful resource! Conventions have always been this nebulous concept that everybody recommends but nobody really talks about, so it's nice to see what it's actually like
They are really uncool
i saw kung fu kickball at the last MAG fest! i bought it- really fun game
M+Dev in Madison WI is a good convention to go to as well, very small and genuine experience, way better than GDC for me
the hotels in san antonio don't have 13th floor either
Great video, but I think the subtitles are out of sync 🤔
nice ;D
build a dare is so awesome hahahaha
From the thumbnail, I’m going to assume it’s a lot like being in a hip hop video with your teddy bear
I forgot to take a thumbnail picture there so that was the best I had lol
@@Miziziziz well it hit my attention 😉🤷♂️
nice
nyc looks nice
looks like 30s berlin
@@geoDB. Cope.
so today i learned that at build-a-bear you actually build a bear.
bruh man as much as i would love to watch this video i can't understand a word of what these people were saying
butchered recordings tbh i could hear the background noise better than people you were talking to
i love VIDEO GAME!
15:17 : Game Maker's Toolkit is not gonna be happy his "original" idea has been done already. oops
The player character moves differently, though.
A couple of three things huh? Perhaps you have the makings of a varsity game dev after all 🤔
I enjoy Sam & Queerio Cheerio
What I’m hearing is Miziziziziziz is heading to Tik Tok 👀👀👀
Marketing Wrought Flesh on TikTok? Okay.
This is cool to watch but surely itd be better for game devs to have stands at game conventions, rather then game dev conventions?
Probably cost more
🥚
I think you could be a great gaming journalist, but most people at Kotaku wouldn't make very good devs.
Bro please buy a better mic the audio was near unintelligible
Most of these physical games just died.
China cannot be used to deliver low-cost products anymore x_x
Lol'd at the communist manifesto
I'm struggling to see the overlap between game dev and political manifestos. Was it just a mix of random props? I think I see hot sauce on there too lol.
I feel like it's probably not that 'worth' to showcase at these places. You could spend like 50 hours of work on this and like you said, get a dozen or so playteaters, maybe an article written that 50 people real. Or, throw a CZcams vid together like 'how I added real AI my PS1 style survival horror', get 200k views with a link to itch, socials, patreon and get a much larger following and immediate revenue. Even the people there said Tiktok does all the heavy lifting.
There's a GDC talk you might like that goes into this: czcams.com/video/gB8CvsOjDvg/video.html
From what I've heard though, a lot of the value comes from connecting with peers in the industry.
What It's Like Going To A Game Convention? bunch of soy boys in a big room
Thumbnail is kinky
U alive ?
It’s 5 am but sure
Edit: Actually isn’t it in your best interest to post videos when your subscriber base/ new viewers could see your video? Where does the majority of your audience come from?
According to CZcams themself, it doesn't matter when you post, it eventually gets seen by your followers over the next day
@@Miziziziz Interesting, but (and don’t listen to me I know nothing about this platform) I’m fairly certain the engagement of the first hour since upload heavily changed wether or not it is recommended to newer viewers. Might’ve been in a vertasium video or the podcast MrBeast had with Colin & Samir. Also, love wrought flesh. Good luck with development!
