  • This is a practice piece against our JV boat, 2k piece bumping rate every 500 meters starting. The first 500 is at a 22, then 24, 26, and finishing the last 500 at 28. Since it is power piece, but not a race, I make technical calls for timing, catches, ratio, and power application. I give them rate and distance (whenever we bump rate up we have passed a 500 mark on our gps, and toward the later half of the piece I give more distance to go calls) and where they are on the other boat. The emphasis on the piece is not to necessarily race our other boat, but it is still both a motivational tool as well as a gauge of our speed, which is why I call seats calmly.
For reference my rowers are bow: Maddie, 2: Olivia, 3: Jordan, 4:Amber, 5: Hammonds, 6: Catherine, 7:Jessica, Stroke: Kelly.

There aren't many decent cox recordings of practices out there. Love this. Since most of us spend the majority of our time coxing practices.... this is fantastic.

Hi Angry CATERPILLARS. There are different styles of rowing. Some crews ask that you square up earlier primarily to ensure that the rowers actually square up in time and keep their hands level. As you can see all the rowers here are squared up before the catch and backing their blades in. So there is no need to change this team’s style of rowing.
