Legend
Real diversity started in this era . Real people , real music . It was a great time to be young 👍
It was awesome to be young then
Brian Robertson, Scotland's finest guitar player. Seen him playing with Frankie Miller in Hattonrig Hotel Bellshill,
Absolutely blown away with his sound , and technique.. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
RIP Phil Lynott (August 20, 1949 - January 4, 1986), aged 36
You will be remembered as a legend.
I'd say Thin Lizzy is probably the most underrated rock band ever. Considering Phil Lynott voice, band's melodies, unique instrumental arrangement, playing with distortion, harmonies, song writing etc. I think they deserve to be more recognized and their albums played more on radio stations.
I fully agree.
Totally overlooked internationally.
Incredible how Phil could sing and play the bass at the same time.
I listened to Thin Lizzy a lot back in the 70s because they had a few really great songs - like this one. But their problem IMO was that the quality of songs was a bit uneven. Too many not so great songs, in other words.
Definitely deserve more recognition. They're why I like iron maiden too. The story telling, the harmonies, great bass player. There just isn't enough music like this today. There are some bands that are part of the nwothm movement that are doing this.
I prefer the cult status
That's a great song .better than boys are back..🎸🥁🎹 timeless RIP Phil ❤🙏
I'm 26 and just discovered Thin Lizzy. My life is gonna change forever!
Yeh all the great singers and musicians are gone now but there is plenty on line to listen to, RIP Phil and Gary 🎸🎤💕
Shut up dude he's 26 and your saying that
You very lucky person, you just clicked on the the very best rocking band of all times, I know because I got to see them many times for over 8 years, I also got to see many other very great bands but Thin Lizzy & Rory Gallagher were the very best of all
Fuck im 31 and thought metal started in the 80's the riffage in this song is so good
@@mikeh4972 You just struck gold/oil/the worlds most prestigious emerald, you not have all full lifetime of listing to all of the Thin Lizzy music, reading the stories and wishing that you could have been to just 1 of their concert, you have the next best thing, their most brilliant music, you are going to have a great life
Met Phil back in 78, I was a teenager heading up the hill of Howth one day and Phil was on his way down, passing the Asgard. I knew who he was, and he gave me a big smile. I remember thinking how cool he was. Saw him in concert twice, will never forget, and passed him early one Sunday morning going over the halfpenny bridge in 81. I was deeply saddened when he passed. He was a hard core Irish man. Always made it known too. Irish Mother, Nigerian farther (who he never knew) born and raised in Crumlin, Dublin. Come to think of it, a hard core Dubliner too!
Great story. I think his father was actually Brazilian
.
I think he was born in Birmingham
Father wasn't Nigerian...guyanian...south American country north of Brazil
Well, in that case, you had better tell Philomena, she said Nigerian, but he wasn't around for long, in any case, Phil rightly was a staunch Irishman, knew the history and embraced the culture, and rightly considered himself so, despite spending a lot of time in UK too. @@patrickthomas4680
@@viniciusreisyt his father was afro Guyanese
I'm 61 now and still my favourite Lizzy song 🤘
Johnny The Fox Meets Jimmy The Weed
64. Ditto
same age,and same opinion.
Amen brother, 2m17s. of utter perfection... not a single superfluous note. The live version on L&D is even better.
Brilliant voice. Born in the Black Country. Good lad. RIP.
There's something you don't see anymore...a guitarist with a cigarette on the go 😁 get in there Robbo!
I'm 62, and from 16 years old loved them, seen them at Glasgow Apollo many years ago....
I just turned 18 and my life will never be the same after listening to this 🎼🎸
Rock and roll hall of fame ! that is all.
an old french fan
Thin Lizzy were superb, and in my opinion were at their very best performing songs inspired by Irish folklore and legend. Their version of Whiskey In The Jar is fabulous, and I believe the finest track was the title track to the album “Black Rose” (Roisin Dubh.) It isn’t the most commercially successful or well known track, I’m out even sure if it was released as a single, but it showcases their musical talent like no other and it is a simply awesome Irish anthem that stirs the blood, especially if you have any Irish blood in your veins.
Thin lizzy are deffnatly 1 d best bands on the planet 🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮 gt82bodykits.🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
If Jim Hendrix and Phil had ever joined up it would have been the greatest combination in history.
Soundtrack to my life, Thin Lizzy. Fantastic band. I always believed they never got the fame they deserved, way better that 95% of the sh*t nowadays.
thin lizzy is such a great great band
He was good at his craft Phil was.
That rythm, that sound, that voice, that guitars, that drummer:)
Killer on the lose have a listen
Drums and bass the balls of band
and that album‘johnny the fox’☝🏻
Absolute perfection
True...the drums are very very good.
Brian Robertson, absolutely brilliant... guitar player.....
Thinking of Phil The Rocker on the anniversary of his passing. Gone but never ever forgotten. 💔
My favourite Irish band ❤
Robbo Cranking out one of the most powerful, succinct and memorable solos in rock whilst 'avin a ciggie.
Saw these live in Leeds. And still to this day I’ve not seen a better live band, ,, well maybe Prince.
@@hardlines2635 I get you! Prince was incredible. He crossed numerous genres. Just like Lynott
@@hardlines2635 queens hall in Leeds? Mamas boys supporting?. Can't remember if it were 82 or 83.I were at that .as for prince, id have put phil lynott as well in front as a frontman to him any day.
2022 and headlining and rocking us out of Covid are the Masters of Rock.....the Lizzy!!
Thin Lizzy have beautiful Jazzy resolutions. Lots of Major 7s
Live and dangerous , best album ever produced.🇬🇧
Saw them in Malvern in 1975 or 76 . Brilliant Concert , fabulous band . Will never forget it . Such a tragedy that this talented Phil man had to go the way so many other talented people have gone. . I guess he must have been hurting somehow . But Thin Lizzy was my favourite group all those years ago . Eric Bell on guitar on the earlier stuff. The Rocker . What a solo . And then Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson . Two brilliant guitarists and the world famous Gary Moore. A better line up you just couldn“t dream up !
This IS Rock'n'Roll
Thin Lizzy were a rock and roll Tyrannosaurus.
I saw Phil and thin Lizzy back in the day and miss them so much.. I keep coming back to this song and particularly Brian's guitar solo.. Don't believe a Word..Not a single word...Hey Don'tcha!!!!!!
I cry every time I hear this. I was a child when this came out but loved it.
God bless you.
63 now from a place called Navan Lizzy or Horslips another good band every Saturday night great times
I saw Lizzy in Preston shortly before Phil passed 😢 broke my heart and still does, love always Phil ❤
There will only ever be one Phil Lynott. And that's all we needed. RIP Philo you legend🤘
Now this is songwriting!
A whole universe, described in 2 minutes and 20 seconds.
To bad Iron Maiden couldn't go to The Thin Lizzy School....
Still awesome 2024 🎉
These were guys who paid their dues. Hours of practice, years of gigging, perfecting their craft. And boy does it show.
Another great 70s band you don’t hear much on the radio thank god for CZcams
Is there still radio going on? Get with the times mate
@@bnap3221 no muppet read it again it says “another BAND you don’t hear much of on the radio” thank god for CZcams
This song plays on my local radio all the time for years (I listen in the car obviously, like 30 minutes a day, and still hear it a lot).
They also had a period of playing Budgie's "Time to remember" super often, but it disappeared like 3 years ago. A pity, incredible song, maybe not great for morning radio though :D
Never ever gonna be a band like Thin Lizzy. Love them, miss them.
My Fave song of theirs 🎶👌✨ (along with 'Fox & Weed' funk-rock track).. Today, tribute group "Limehouse Lizzy" do a sterling job of emulating their sound - well worth seeing live! 🎶🎸🎸✨
Go on Phil ya boy ya. Up the Dubs 👍🍺
Im very VERY nearly 60 and this lot were a huge part of my life (the discovery part) shall we say...😋
Phil, scott & both brian's were the mega line up for me... just fantastic! Just fan'bloody'tastic...
For me it all came crashing down when Brian R. Had to go😑... and then down the pipes it all went, snowy white, gary moore and onwards towards the 'thunder & lighting' album and then the end of the man himself... many moons after i dragged my arse to see blackstar riders (lizzy) with scott & brian D.... wish i hadn't... RIP lizzy.
Phil would have been 70 years old today 20/8/19. RIP Mr. Lynott. 🍻
He died on my 21st birthday . I was bummed to say the least .
My life already has changed forever. I'm 73. Now 74
Imagine being 13 and hearing this..
When it was released.
You can never play this song loud enough
Truer words have never been spoken.
Oh, yes you can!

This tales me right back to being a teenager again. Jesus christ almighty! Where did the years go? RIP Phil.
Philip Paris Lynott, I will never see the like of you again in my life time, I got hooked on Thin Lizzy in my teens , after hearing whiskey in the jar, owned all the albums.
We are all individuals, and we all like all sorts of music with our own passion.
This band will always have a special place in my heart.
First time I saw Thin Lizzy was in 2012, supporting GNR. Obviously the lineup had changed, but it was still an unforgettable introduction to tbe band, and especially the song Whiskey In the Jar. I'll never forget that night, I went for GNR but Thin Lizzy left a real mark on me, but it's only recently I've delved into the Lynott stuff and man, I feel like if I had a soundtrack Thin Lizzy would be playing it, I f'n love this stuff
I still think phil is possibly THE coolest guy in any band ever🙏💪💣💥
Lizzy are the most original and unique sound of rock history. A mix of blues funk hard rock n rollin metal.
I think thats pretty naive to say but yea depends on taste i guess. Not saying i dont like thin lizzy, they were great.
@@p1TCHONEEE many appreciate the boys are back in town or albums like chinatown or thunder and lightning more hard rock style....i used to hate their first 4 albums... more pop or bluesey styled...then i dug deeper into them and i put the puzzle together and .....man can they play....!!!!! All genres included which opened my mind that was focused on hard n heavy rock...now i know how they progressed and built up their unique repetoire based on a fusion of branches of blues pop rock culminating with hard rock and heavy metal. That's their greatness and uniqness.
@@toredurgali8374 I dont doubt that but look where they got the inspiration for this style. You can find this kind of music was done before alot. It might not be your taste but thats my whole point. They made it unique because they mixed all their musical rootes without copying.
Back in 1975 when they released the album Johnny The Fox, I was 18 & used to listen to DJ Kid Jensen on the radio 📻 on Saturday mornings. One morning he played every track from this, saying: "They're what rock music is all about!" That day I went & bought the album.
.54 just amazes me every time, I wish someone brought me to see Thin Lizzy when I was a kid
I grew up near where Phil was from he suffered hard but turned his life into incredible music died way too young he’s up there with Wilde, Beckett, Joyce
The greatest heavy rock band ever
Hey, so glad to hear that! 70's music, it really was the best and Thin Lizzy were amazing, keep listening
Phil must have had Great Eyes.... I saw them at Bracknel in 76...he noticed from the stage that I was wearing the same wrist band he was, bought from Carnaby Street.
.
Happy days!
I'm a fan since the 70's... every now and then I need this... absolutely beautiful Phil . I don't arf miss you.
Great riffs and harmonies.
R.I.P Phil , Thank you .
Those were the days!! I miss 'em big time
How good is that? Imagine it produced and recorded of today’s equipment, it’d definitely wake a few people out of their trances. In the late 70’s I was in a cover band and we played a Thin Lizzy medley; Emerald, Jail break, Johnny and Dancing in the moonlight. I loved playing these (still do) and would have happily been just a Thin Lizzy cover band. They had real musicians in bands back then and some absolutely phenomenal guitarists, although Midge Ure, bless him, wasn’t one of their best choices. The rest… we all know. Awesome! 👍
One of their best. Phil, gone but not forgotten.
Fint
H JLC for sure
H JLC the best
Definitely, absolute whopper.
NEVER Forgotten
Lizzy had the best frontman ever. Charismatic and truly gifted. God bless you Philo. X
Lynott and bon Scott best frontmen in rock history.

Tin Lizzy. Not thin. Tin. Loved the Irishness. Charisma and gifted, could not agree more.
Well said
Escutando em 2023!!!
A powerful band and this is one of my favourites, really cool 😎🤘
Robertson and Gorham, sheer perfection.
Ive seen a lot of live bands but cant recall seeing a better one than Thin Lizzy in 1976
Back then when rock and roll was alive and kickin
Phil n the boys-love ya-never saw u live -too young, but kissed Phils statue in Dublin-class sound!
Phil Lynnot, a hugely underestimated songwriter, and Lizzy are just a great band
They were great live. Saw them at the free ROCKtober Concert on the Sydney Opera House steps 29 October 1978 when I was 14. Was one of the best gigs...
around 1978 maybe 79 i was in the Haymarket pub in Newcastle, couldnt wait to walk round the block to city hall to see lizzy, on my way round Phil got out of a Ford Granada estate right in front of me, couldnt get near him for autograph but ill never forget it , great times RIP Phil.
I am 64 old and i still rock
One of the best solos ever! What a band!
Many times that mirrored bass shone in my eyes growing up in Ireland , God rest yer soul Phil
Who does not love Thin Lizzy? This is what Rock Music is all about. Rest In Piece Phil and thank you for the all the great memories and Dalymount Park, Dublin 1977. Support act Graham Parker and the Rumours, and a little unknown band called The Boomtown Rats! I had just turned 16 years old and that gig is still rated as the very best outdoor gig to this date, in Ireland at least!
One of the most classic Rock guitar solos ever and all done whilst playing it with a lit cigarette LOL. Oh how times have changed and sadly not for the better :-(
Loved Thin Lizzy since 1970s, this was the best line up ever and I had a major crush on Scott Gorham! Robbo was just incredible!
Hey Lorraine, even I had a crush on Scott Gorham and I am a straight bloke! 😂 But to be honest I loved more or less every musician in the 70's, it was an amazing era
Scott definetly got the looks..
Nobody ever played better 30 second guitar solos than Robbo did in those days
These guys didn't get have enough credit they were in a class of their own
Jóóó ... Super Rock!!
Amazing band, amazing music. Absolutely first class rock .
One of the most distinctive passionate voices in Rock History. One of very very few.
When music was real music.
Saw these guys three times in one week in 77 in Antrim Forum. The sexiest man in Ireland then. When he died it was like the Irish Elvis had died. Just dreadfully sad. SO talented. Loved ya Phil. X And he said at every gig in Ireland, is there anybody out there with any Irish in them? Would anyone like a little more Irish in them? Oh how us girls went wild.
Brian Robbo Robertson- a gifted genius - pure rock star- his solo's took the songs to another level!
My personal favourites: Rosalie, Don't believe a word, Killer without a cause, Opium trail...
there was always just something nostalgic with Thin Lizzy all the time.
I believed every word that Phil Lynott wrote, sang and spoke, I listen to the poet, the storyteller, the adviser and the historian and the rocker that Phil was. I listen to, sing
along to and through some Rockin shapes and dance to the most brilliant music of Thin Lizzy and have done since I was a little boy and will do until my last day on Gods green earth even if live for 500 years more
reminds me of Marc the biker from Argyle Street Squat, Norwich, thanx Marc for your kindness your tea and your music!
How much I love this song......
Words can tell lies.....yeah it's true!!!
Phil lynott is one of the coolest guys to have lived.
It's only when you listen to all the great lizzy hits we lived in dat era we were lucky phil a genius to young to leave us
no shit to say , This is Great. love This band for ever.
Just read an article in the Telegraph about Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy. Had no idea how amazing he and they were and are. Can really hear how they have influenced so many hard rock and indie guitar acts
