Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
I was soaring ever higher but I flew too high
Though my eyes could see, I still was a blind man
Though my mind could think, I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I'm dreaming
I can hear them say
Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more
Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, well
It surely means that I don't know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion
Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune
But I hear the voices say
Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry no more, no!
Carry on, you will always remember
Carry on, nothing equals the splendor
Now your life's no longer empty
But surely heaven waits for you
Carry on, my wayward son
There'll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don't you cry, don't you cry no more No more

"If I claim to be a wiseman, it surely means that I don't know." - These words are deep asf.
Always thought he said "I never claimed to be a wiseman, but shouldn't mean I don't know."
@@f_for_freedom2492 either interpretation is elucidating tbf
This was an idea expressed by Socrates . The wise man knows that he does not know everything . People who claim to know everything are ignorant . Donald Trump is a prime example of this he claims to know everything , and thus is not wise .
@@pk2712 does he really claim to know everything though? Maybe in a joking way. I don’t think it applies. Worst you could say about Trump is that he was naive in thinking he could “drain the swamp”, and he had lots of terrible advisers batting for the other side, so not the ultimate wiseman or anything but hardly a fool. I wouldn’t try to make this a political discussion if I were you.
@@eldontyrell4361 I will grant that you are right about him that he never claimed to know everything ; but , he pretty much always thinks that he is the smartest man in any room . He has said time and again that he knows more than many experts . I really was not attempting to make this a political discussion because that type of discussion many time becomes distasteful . I really was just holding up Trump as an example of a person who claims to know more than they actually do . And Socrates was highly critical of people like that . The wise man does not claim to know more than they actually know .
I recall living in the dorms in '85 during "dead week". It was supposed to be quiet all week for study. A friend of ours didn't make it through freshman year. Too much dope too little study so he was heading home to regroup. I was up in the third floor of our building and his parent had backed their car up to get his stuff. As he was just getting ready to go, saying goodbyes, I turned my massive Marantz speakers out the window, put on the vinyl and turned this song up to 11!! I believe the RA had enough sense to see what was going on and let it play.
I'll never forget the look on Mike's face as this song filled the air and every dorm in the canyon could here this masterclass of a song.
Hope he's doing well now! Hits hard since I'm also a college freshman now

We are losing many of the classical rockers of the 70's. Let's hope the young generations keep this kind of music going.
They've had 40 years to do it, and haven't heard any example of younger generations keeping this kind of music going. Not gonna happen. But that's ok. It's what makes this special. As Bill and/or Ted said during their excellent adventure, "All we are is dust in the wind"

RIP My Son Mark. 4/13/21 Loved This Song.
My all time favorite song. Want this sung at my funeral always have because it tells my life. I'm 56 with cancer, time to lay my weary head to rest and cry no more.
Stay strong there men, I'm sure that your time hasn't come yet, just keep fighting and do wahtever you ever want to do

Arrange forces even if you seem to have nowhere to take them they are somewhere inside you ... defy death ... laugh at her ...You will live ... want to live ... deceive your illness ... act as if you are in good health ... let life take you ... do not interfere ...
God bless you.
