  • Buy one on Amazon: lon.tv/t7m53 (compensated affiliate link) - Twelvesouth's HoverBar Duo is a tablet stand that can work in two ways: with an included desktop stand or clamped onto a shelf or desk. Unfortunately switching operating "modes" requires tools and disassembly/reassembly. See more tablets: lon.tv/tablets and subscribe! lon.tv/s

@Lon.TV Great review. I really wish I'd seen it before I bought this. :)
A new version of the Hoverbar Duo was announced today--Twelve South sent out an email this morning.
Hoverbar Duo (2nd Gen) includes a "QuickSwitch tab" to switch between the desktop base and shelf clamp much easier. Also, it now comes in "Matte White."

Agreed 100% with your review. I bought one of these on a whim last year and it's been sitting unused since I got it. It just takes up too much space (the 'arm' has to have a slight angle to it) and I think it's actually over built in terms of construction quality. Not worth it unless in very specific use cases.

Great review! Do you have a phone/tablet stand that you use while traveling? Hoping to get work done on a surface during some international flights

Hi Lon, I'm not sure on the use case for the rear cameras on a phone with this. Not a deal breaker for me on its own.
As I write this you mention over head shots. I guess that is an edge case upon thinking it over.

Well ... I do not think it is such a bad thing, as most people are probably gonna choose what kind of stand would they want. I prefer the clamp, so I could fix it to my desk and forget about it. It is really hard for me to think practical reason why would someone constantly change between stand and the clamp "mode".

I got a boom mic stand and an ipad dock for just this use case. A fair bit sturdier. It allows me to look eye level at the people I am Zoom calling with.

Would you mind elaborating? I'd like to mount an iPad directly on/above an iMac for Zoom calls and can't seem to find an elegant solution.

I did something similar, I bought an ipad tripod mount and a Manfretto magic arm, so more money than this but it's stable and gives me better angles for Zoom calls.

Not only is the change over a pain but the arm holding the tablet can't maintain the position you set. It flopped right down like it was about to drop it! What is the maximum weight supported by the mechanism for each portion? Instead of using the special tool you should be able to pop in a bit to a battery powered screwdriver to quickly make those adjustments.

I have two questions. What are your thoughts on the new Star Trek a strange new worlds? They inserted clips of Jan 6th Capital riots. Also have you gotten your hands on the new rodecaster pro 2? I heard rode is secretly sending them out to reviewers now.

obviously you don't know why you need 3 difference tools. ..thats because every tool set you buy has never 2 of the same tools so you need 2 sets of same tool tus use 2 of same mesures. so its logic thsy made it with 2 difference tools

Cool concept, poor execution. That base is far too small to safely hold a large tablet. The vibration issue really kills the whole concept here and it's over priced.
