DEREK MAHON (1941-2020)*
Born Derek Mahon in Belfast Northern Ireland. Working class parents: father and grandfather worked at Harland and Wolff shipyard. Educated at Skegoneill primary School, The Royal Belfast Academical Institution, Trinity College Dublin (1962) and the Sorbonne in Paris. One of the most talented and innovative of Irish poets, Mahon brings power and significance to the everyday. Died in 2020 in Cork, Ireland.
