Lumnah Acres - Zábava
I’ve been told that you need to seal both sides or the sun will warp your boards
Your Brother was a good helper . The doors look so nice !! The highland cows are looking good !! I LOVE YOU ALL !!!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Lovely doors, and nice to see compost pile working. Love your teamwork! Nice to have brother near to help. Brutus is enjoying his life! Happy Days! ☀️👏😁🥰🤗🙏🏻
I just love Brutus doing all the puppy things.....the digging at the side of the barn was so cute!
Good Morning modern steaders! Loved the shot of the cow watching Al and his brother hanging the doors. Of course I enjoyed the whole video as always
Hi Al whenever you paint timber you should always paint both sides otherwise it will bow always happens
BLESSED MOTHER'S DAY GINA AND TO ALL❤
Gooooooooood Morning Evalina. Thank you happy Mother’s Day to you too
Well said, Evalina - Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there!
Good morning Evalina
Thank you very much! And blessings on all moms everywhere!
Good Morning! It is great to see doors on the barn again! Your brother saved the day Al a big round of applause! Brutus needs a pool or a pond to splash in, he seems to enjoy water! The herd was amazed by the blow torch!
Hello from New Jersey Al & Gina! Go to your brake and take a piece of aluminum and bend a U-shape to make a cap over top of your door. The water is going in between your tongue and groove that’s why it’s buckling. Or build yourself a small overhang right on top the door trim about 6-12 inches overhang. This is coming from an experienced 40 year carpenter! Love Brutus!
Good morning, Al and Gina! I enjoy your videos so much. I also enjoy my “I LIKE IT” coffee.
For a second there I thought we were going to get a “Goooood morning, modern homesteader!”, but we didn’t 😢
You could also have stopped them from warping by using angle iron or square tubing to stiffen them.
Love seeing your brother helping you. It’s so nice to see families working together.
When I was involved with varnishing boats a few years ago (almost 60) WE always put the varnish in a hot water "bath" to ensure we got thin even coats that penetrated well - Hence the sealer going on better in the hot sun. Ever since then I always use a "Bain Marie" when putting on sealer - It takes about the same time to put on 2 coats of "hot" as one of cold and it gives a MUCH better surface for top coats (and a lot less sanding!)
That's a valuable tip! 👍
@@samvalentine3206It most certainly is!
Goooood morning Lumnah Acres! Viewed the Northern Light here in Tennessee last night. A spectacular view that us Southerners rarely get to experience. Al you are a true farmer when you get excited about your compost breaking down nicely. Great video!
You’re so lucky. I live near Traverse City in Michigan. Friday night the sky was completely clouded over. Tonight Sat/Sun it’s completely cloud free but no Aurora visible anywhere! Can’t firgure our how you can see it hundreds of miles south of here? 16:26
Gooood morning Lumnah's! Another beautiful day on the OGP the doors look great. Miles and George are going to be a couple of handsome homesteaders. Thanks for sharing
Myles.
Good morning Lumnah's! The doors look amazing; the black against the grey is a beautiful contrast. Thanks "Al's brother" for all the help. Hope you got some of that yummy pie. Wanted to mention, although you probably already know about giardia, i.e. beaver fever. It's a single cell parasite, often carried in the gut of beaver, thus the name. First you'll see is diarrhea that has a horrible smell; once exposed to the odor you'll never forget. It's easily treatable once diagnosed by the vet. Humans can get it too. With beavers on the property it's a possibility although it's also carried by other animals.
Al. You may want to put a small wooden overhang with a drip on the frame over your barn doors to help stop the rain from getting into the grooves, otherwise it could happen again. If it does and you have to make them again you may want to try only putting half of each tongue in each groove then it will allow for swelling and shrinking
I sure hope this fixes the bowing doors... because they are beautiful!!!
If you only put sealer (finish) on one side of any board it will bend to that side
Very nice barn doors! You & Gina, always do excellent with your DIY's, I have been watching for some time.
Happy ☺️ Mother's Day Gina
G’day 😊 it’s so wonderful to watch Miles and George. Such magnificent beasts! 😃👍❤️ gosh Brutus has grown again!! By next winter you can use him as a throw rug to keep you warm lol 😂 hopefully that steaming pile of compost will be ready to use soon and help you grow some decent yummy vegetables 👍
Good evening, Agnes - lots of hair on all those animals - they may be able to weave some blankets!
Gooooooooood Morning Agnes. It sure is crazy how fast Brutus is growing
@@samvalentine3206 G’day Sam 😊 fair point and a great idea too!
Good morning Agnes! They do look like they are really nice beef cows!
@@forrestgump9576 G’day FG 😊 hope you’re having a great weekend
Good morning from a beautiful Wexford Ireland 😎.
Thank you! And blessings on your new week!
Al, this is the most beautiful thing to watch. Compost!! I see the smoke is wonderful it's cooking and soon to be ready.
God bless you and your family
I love your channel.!!!
Laura M from Rockaway Park New York ❤
Today I learned;
That's the new & improved water-based stuff. Back when Thompsons was a oil-based mixture it was decent stuff, the new stuff is a far cry from the old, but it does meet California gov't-nanny specs for saving people from themselves.
Yes, Happy Mother's Day, Gina.❤
Gina, make those doors into Barn Art or signs. You could use it or sell it. ❤❤❤
Nice work on those doors. Wow Gina, that pie looked amazing. 😮😮😮
Good Morning from Nova Scotia. Your problem with bowing of the wood is caused by the fact that the wood is only sealed on one side. By having only one side sealed, the moisture in the air can get into the other side and cause it to expand.
$uch a beautiful, yet functional process! They look so great and it will be interesting to watch how they hold up over time. Always something cool going on at Lumnah Acres! 👍
yay, doing both sides of the doors!
Al
Could have saved the wood ash for your garden beds ?
Linda from Ct
Great video 👍🏻👍🏻
The new doors are much nicer. My question is I don’t remember you sealing the inside of the door. Definitely warpage. Wood may not have been dried enough because they sure did shrink.
Love the doors, looks so nice too,
Those Highland cattle are so cute. They just wait at the gate to get brushed. Warm horns! I would never think that would be true. Shou Shugi Ban the new doors. I think outside is a good place to do that. The cows love to watch what you do. Water proof the charred and brushed side of the door with Thompson's Water Seal. Brutus is cute digging by the ladder. Finishing both sides. Good idea. I hope these don't warp for you. Remember the edges. Chem trails. Yay, compost is working! I saw some steam when you moved it. Great that your brother is helping you hang the doors. Too bad about the bowing! Those doors look wonderful! Thanks Rich! Nice pie Gina! Thanks for this video Lumnah family! Happy Mother's Day Gina!
Good Saturday mornin New Yolk🥚City .... maybe the old doors needed to be done on both sides? Anyhoo .... the new doors are looking very nice👍🏻 Have a nice weekend AL, Gina & Olivia 🚜🐕🐩🐻🐮🐄🦬🦬🐓🐔
Some of my best memories of my brothers are when we would get together for a project. Reroofing a house to installing vinyl siding and ceramic tile. Also built several garages with their help.
Good Morning all!!!!!!!!!!! Doors looking good hopefully they will stay square! Brutus getting big such a good boy!! Amazing how hot a good mulch pile gets black gold coming soon! All looking great on the farm nice job guys!! Stay blessed all!! Oh nice pie Gina!!!!!!
That pie 19:11 sure did look yummy!
Greetings from Perth Ontario Canada! Hope everyone has a great weekend! Oh By the way - HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!!
Good looking doors. Thanks Brother Rich.
Good morning from England County of Kent the compost is looking nearly ready for the garden natural ferlizer
Giggle for the day.. Brutus grabbing his cushion bed 😂 .. doors look great fingers 🤞 enjoy the weekend!!
18:46
Keep us posted on the new door treatment.... I was worried that the heat might cause the plywood side to delaminate a little (or a LOT) They LOOK GREAT!
Brutus is really growing, great puppy.
Looking good, I would think of angle iron, or square tubing as a last resort but. Thumbs up 👍
Hello Al and Gina. I believe you used angle iron on the big doors. How are they holding up. Tongue and Grove typically needs to float somewhat for shrinkage. Plywood tends to curve diagonally when it ages. Perhaps an angle iron frame on the backside with some diagonal bracing.
The doors do look really good. Well done.
I agree with Gina. You should measure the horns. It would be interesting to record the length once a month and see how the data looks in a year and again in two.
That is one nice pile of black gold.
The doors are going to remain super stable for their lives.
Good morning Al, Gina, Olivia and all the Lumnah friends and extended family.
Absolutely you can see that Steam, that is awesome having the right equipment to do the job that makes the world of difference
Oh noooo, the dutch doors are gone, l thought the new ones are going to be dutch doors as well. Don't forget to paint the white trim from the red door, you wanted it black too.
i built large garage doors out of 2x6 with 6 thermo windows and one bowed more that the other. they have been up for about 10 years. when i take them down to scrape and repaint i will reinforce them with angle iron around the the four edges.
Brutus is adorable...doors look great. You have a wonderful family!
Good morning Al and Gina! The new doors look great, crossing fingers for you that they hold up much better. Hope you get some days of sunny weather. Hugs from N.C..❤
Hi Al Gina not sure about doing the plywood as all the layers are bonded and you are softening the glue hope they don't delaminate regards from the UK
That burn technique is not new, I used that on many wood projects back in the fifties, it looks especially good on 6 X 6 wood ceiling beams after using a hand grinder to gouge up the wood, also chairs, tables, etc, I used Butchers wax as a sealer while still hot, it gave a beautiful texture to the wood and it lasted forever !
Good mornnnning! ☀️ The new doors look amazing! Have a great day everyone! 😃
If you end up making you own workbenches, I highly recommend using wood glue as a top coat. It'll give you a really nice work top, you don't have to worry about damaging with heat or strike damage.
Nice doors Al and Gina . Thanks Rich for helping Al . Seeya
Greetings from central southern New Jersey. Doors are looking good.
Maybe you could use the old doors as work tables or picnic tables. Would work good in a greenhouse.
Have a great weekend! 🌻🤟🌻
Good morning Lumnah family. Those highlands are some nice looking calves. Those new doors look down right fancy. Pray they do better than the other ones did. Compost pile cooking away for you. Gina cooking again. Will be tasty for the family. Thanks for another great video. Enjoy your week end.
Good morning, Gene - nicely said. Hope you enjoy your weekend as well!
@@samvalentine3206 Morning Sam.

Good morning from Townsville in Nth Queensland Australia. Actually, it's Saturday night. 8.47 pm.
Good morning from Michigan. It’s a chilly start to our day. The doors look great
The doors are looking good and the cattle look like they are doing fine . Hope Olivia is out from school and have fun .

Gooood morning Lumnah family and friends! The Hylands are adorable😊 Did you enjoy the Aurora Borealis last night? They were incredible here in MN. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!🥰
Good morning! 👍🏾🤩🐶
Happy Mother's Day Gina!🥰
Gooooooooood Morning Forrest. I missed them. I was sleeping. 💤
The Aurora Borealis was pretty epic here in southern Maine last night!
Good morning hope you’re well this fine day @forrestgump9576 I’m just about to go outside and cut up some 3inch box section to use as fence posts then weld a cover onto the top end so it’s not open ended once in the ground as they’ll be set in concrete which means water will sit inside for quite a while and rust them from the inside out and that will be no good I’m expecting them to last longer than me hahahaha 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Good morning y'all from the south of Texas. Hope y'all have an amazing day. Smile you can make the difference in someone else's day.
Good morning, Eric! 😊
@@samvalentine3206 Morning Sam, have an awesome day.

Howdy there, Elizabeth!
Good morning Elizabeth! Thank you and hope yours is wonderful too!
Hi there Lumnas, It's nice seeing you achieve your dreams. God bless you.
Nice with family coming to help 😊👍
It comes in handy
You are a much better person then I am. I think I would've welded up a frame some how and bolted it to the old doors and repositioned the latch a bit. But will be cool to see the difference throughout a years time on the other door
Such a beautiful day, HAPPY MOTHERS DAY GINA ❤🌷❣️
Gooooooooood Morning Happy Mother’s Day
Thanks to your brother for the help. The compost is looking great!
Happy Mother's Day Gina!

Good morning, Bill!
Good morning Bill!🌄😊
Gooooooooood Morning Bill
funny how the Red door to the workshop is in the Sun all day, and never gets effected, Are you Ever gonna take the tape off the glass on the red door?.
🍓 Rhubarb Pie!! 🥧
Not this year, too busy !
@@4Classie It would take less than a minute to do.
During the Civil War, the longhorn cattle in south Texas were allowed to roam free for four years and some of them grew horns as wide as a man is tall. The men who returned to the ranches after the war had no way of making a living and no money, since the market for cattle was so far away. These innovative cowmen formed the first cattle drives and drove these wild cattle to markets much further north and east.
They have Scottish Highlands. They don't grow huge horns like the Texas Longhorns.
Good morning from Gatwick wishing you all a happy and peaceful weekend ❤
Good afternoon to you, Jim!
Use old door wood for smaller projects ...
Good morning from Windsor On 🇨🇦 Al & Gina the new doors I had no doubt looks great 👍 sometimes by trial and error out comes then best !!! Looks great as usual Al & Gina …good day to the Lumnah Channel family ❤️🇨🇦
Good morning from a beautiful and hot Winchester uk, I think today will end up being classified as our summer😊🇬🇧
LOVE the cow looking around the corner watching you both putting in the new door!! Oh and my Brutus boy - you are truly beautiful!!
doesn't burning plywood destroy the glue? as for the doors, try adding more hinges to the solid doors. sometimes its just weight on hinges.
Not a good idea Chris. As the doors shrink and change shape when the sap dries out or the wood expands when wet, the extra hinges will stop the wood being able to move and splits will occur. Wooden doors should only ever have two hinges.
@@derekbarratt the wood being sealed shouldn't take on water, but if concerned then all but one set of hinges could be slotted vertically. the expansion will affect 2 hinges as much or more than 3 or more as the difference in angle should cause the same or more angle. assuming binding is your issue, not the door sticking in the door jam. more hinges risks binding if you don't line them up, but extra weight can be dealt with by a stronger/ better hinge, more hinges or an offsetting the weigh like a counterweight. al seems very good at lining things up so i think the easy way for free swinging solid wood doors is less weight on the hinge pins by adding a few extra hinges. or those cool bearing hinges good for 200kg/hinge.
@@chrisoakey9841 Hi Chris,
I obviously didn't explain very well. May I try again please. This is a long term problem. As the seasons change so do the atmospheric conditions. The expansion /contraction takes place widthwise not lengthwise, so verticle slotting wouldn't work. The three hinges would be continually fighting each other. The only time that you see three hinges attached to a door is because the door is made of hardwood and is considerably heavier, and hardwoods are properly stored in an area similar to where they are going to end up for a few weeks before being worked on, to give them a chance to dry out. Something that we all should be doing but never do. When you buy wood you have no idea where that particular tree was grown and is likely to have come from a high humidity area, somewhere where trees grow the quickest and will be full of sap and being kiln dried doesn't always get rid of enough of it. Hope that helps.
@@derekbarratt in australia 3 hinges is standard for exterior doors. and with expansion isn't a hinge issue. it is a framing issue. as for the tree, you are partially correct. but you can get an idea of growth from the rings and weight.
Good Morning, The doors look great.
HI Al, Gina, Brutus. That was a good 2 Days work Al & Gina + Brother with Brutus supervising.
I do love you planing & work rate. Take care happy family.
Goooooood morning Lumnahs!!!!!!!

Good morning, 52F & rain in central Michigan. Love the doors.
Good AM, from Hutchinson, MN.. Nice temps here finally Happy Mother's Day Gina…
Good morning, Rob!
Good morning Rob!🌄😊
Gooooooooood Morning Rob. It’s supposed to be nice here this weekend too
Burning the Wood bug-proofs and that creates durability, exterior doors are foam panel core with metal encasement and framed in wood, but framed in PVC would make everlasting !
Good morning guys! Your new doors look great.
Goooooooooood morning, Al & Gina
I would bet that on the wood warping is because of how it was cut from the log in the first place. That happens quite often. The new doors look great! Fingers crossed 🤞 no issues come back.
Al and Gina what a great team you are and Gina, dam girl you’re strong for your size.
Doors are redone and looking 👀 amazing 😮😊❤
Good morning everyone watching from West Virginia
Gooooooooood Morning West Virginia
New doors look great 👍, think about cutting down to make planters out of them
