For a struggling family that is a very viable basis of meal or lunch. For £1 a head you could feed them all. Well done Aldi, in current times families need access to good quality, real food at fair prices.
Yes everybody go to Aldi, because I am still fuming at M & S planning on going Ctedit Card only. Have a piece of that fish I fry it, do sautéed potatoes , and mushy peas with mint sauce on . A perfectly acceptable meal for two.
this reminds me of a nye bevan quote from many years ago " this island is made mainly of coal and surrounded by fish, only an organisational genius could produce a shortage of both coal and fish at the same time ".
Nothing wrong with pollock, we used to catch them off Anglesey breakwater. You will get small grey-ish bits in them, but all edible and tasty. At 58p a real bargain. Thanks Gareth.
Pollack fillets are vertical cuts from the body, starting at the backbone and working down to the belly. Pollock loins are thick fillets cut from larger fish, and chiefly comprise the main section of fillet above the fish's lateral line, which starts behind the head and ends behind the dorsal fin. These you have are not proper fillets , they are offcuts of a fillet mechanically formed to make the product. On the other hand , I still prefer Pollack to Cod. Like tuna or salmon, pollock is a good source of protein and is low in saturated fat. Pollock is also low in calories and a good source of vitamin B12, phosphorus, and selenium. Other nutritional minerals you can find in pollock include calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, sodium, zinc, and vitamin A. See you on the live show.
@@judyfrosini3431 If you read it correctly , I prefer pollock . I was pointing out that the wording on the label was misinforming. They have put offcuts together to make a it look like a fillet. If they had just put "Battered Pollock" it would have been perfect. They do have all the same nutritional value as salmon and tuna. Absolutely nothing wrong with the product , just how they have labelled it.
I never doubted them for a minute once I saw the packaging. Do you remember those awful smart price fillets, that asda did around the mid 2000s? Ground up fish skins compressed and shaped into a fillet.
That's what the packet says these are: pieces reformed into a fillet shape. And half of it is batter for a similar price to frozen 100% pollack whole fillet. You're paying over £4 per kilo for flour, oil and water, otherwise known as bread.
@@mimikurtz2162 Yes, you are correct. They are reformed pieces of fish but good quality pieces. Good value? probably not with thick batter. Those asda smart price ones were really something else, hard to describe the taste but most people never got past the first mouthful they were that rank. If you ever had any, then you will know what I mean.
I love Aldi everyday essentials food, cheese, beans, chicken slices now I am going to try these cos I love fish, just love the way you promote these food products xx
Yes, I've had these and the essentials fish fingers too. Great with mash or new potatoes, carrots and peas. Tasty easy and sound. Thanks Gaz, we need more of this sort of thing!😊👍
Great review! I've recently made Aldi my main supermarket, after going into shock too many times at the price of Morrisons and Asda. I find frozen fish fillets are usually a bit bitter, but these look good. Definitely going to try them.
Tried these today Gareth after watching your review. Did them for hubby for lunch on a fish and pea sandwich with mayo. He said it was lovely. Thanks for your reviews your never far wrong!
Hi Gaz👍well that looked pretty damn good and with that price point it's definitely worth a go even if people prefer cod/haddock. Brilliant review as always buddy. Take care and see you in the live✌️🍻
I really like Pollock. What I don't like is when some brands say "white fish", without saying what fish it contains. A really nice fish that most people have probably not even heard of is "Hoki". If you ever see Hoki while you're shopping, you should give it a try, mate. It is really nice. It's a white fish with a mild sweet flavour. Similar to a Cod flavour but has a little bit more flavour.
You do make me smile gaz! The way you put your fork up in the air and then shove it in your gob like you’re doing the bush tucker trial! The look of concentration on your face is priceless! Thanks for the videos darling!
What makes me laugh is how he nearly always manages to drop something off the fork. Plus, the way he exclaims "Oh no!" as if it's a complete surprise. Smaller bites! Or bigger fork. Or a spoon.
I saw these the other day but didn't get them because my air fryer isn't big enough to get a whole one in. From what I can see in the video, they look no worse than dearer ones from other higher brands. I got some fish nuggets from Lidl the other day and they were fine taste and value wise. Might get a Sage air fryer one day, look great. Great vlog as always, thank you 😀👍
Bravo! It's great to see such enthusiasm for pollock. We don't eat nearly enough of it. We have the usual staples, cod and haddock, and people turn their noses up at pollock, even though it's part of the cod family. If only fish and chip shops could be encouraged to serve battered pollock as an alternative. Recently I tried Aldi's Essentials fish fingers and they were great, too. And very inexpensive.
They look bang on, thanks Gaz. I'm thinking of people who probably fell behind with those hideous gas bills last winter, this is exactly what folk need if they need to save a few pence per portion and there's nowt wrong with pollock, it's tasty fish, I'm going to buy some of those 😎 Have a good evening.
I'm new here and i love your channel! My aldi in the states has different items of course but i'm keeping an eye out for something similar. Hello from Alabama!!
Your freezer tea today reminded me of the review you did of Aldi Everyday Essentials Battered Fish Fillets. Last Tuesday I was in Aldi and wanted to buy these again. However, the box is no longer blue, it's red! And Aldi have stuck a "I'm new!" sticker on. But inside still the same battered pollock fillets and just as tasty.
I’ve tried the Tesco Heart Food Co frozen fish in batter. They felt a bit mushy inside like the fish was minced & shaped. These look a lot nicer and I’m sure they are cheaper. Tend not to go to Aldi as it is always busy and looks cluttered much prefer Lidl but will have to have a revisit. Good to shop around!
Yep, gonna try these next time I'm at Aldi. Quick tip tho G, don't bother with the Aldi posh lobster mac n cheese, 6quid and not worth even half that! (saying that, a review would be fun!)
Hiya Gareth I tried these and I thought they were really nice I also tried the the essential fish fingers and there really nice too 😊Thankyou for reviewing ❤
Hey Gareth another high quality video (pun intended). I haven’t tried These before, but earlier this year I started buying ALDIs Everyday Essentials Fish Fingers. You should definitely check them out as a good money saver on your channel. They were 10 fish fingers for 75p but last month at my local Aldi they went up to 80p. They’re really good for the money, pretty sure they’re also pollock , absolutely nothing wrong with them. I also feel less guilty when I have five fish fingers in one sandwich when it only costs 40p. All the best, m8!

My favourite fish fillets at home is Aldi or lidl yellowfin sole fillets, they do them in garlic and herb or lemon dusting my faves are the lemon dusting. You only get 2 fillets for about £2.50p but they are lovely tasting. Definitely try them out if you get the chance. All the best, m8!
You loved them gaz..!😂 Cant go wrong with 0.58p for a crispy fishfillet from Aldi...! My advice is to let them cool down for 10 mins. Then tuck in. Spot on..👌

Gareth, try the Iceland generic white fish fillets in batter in a sandwich made with their deli rolls (white or wholemeal), great value! The rolls fit the fillets perfectly.
it only seems a couple of weeks ago I was watching you and your family on Christmas day. time goes by so fast. that fish seemed good for the money, prices are rising so much.

If I had a family I wouldn't feed them that cheap Pollock crap. If people can't afford to feed their family they should keep it zipped.
The ironic thing is we are an island surrounded by fish and these fillets have traveled a very long way to get on our plates😊
