You are missing out! If you take road trips, drive to your vacation destination, if you like seeing nature, you have opportunities you aren’t aware of. In most states in remote areas you just drive by, there are logging roads, fire roads, and mountain, BLM, and other access roads that see little traffic. Off-road doesn’t have to mean serious car threatening extremely dangerous roads. When I plan a road trip I look at an old paper map or satellite photo sites like google/apple and usually will find opportunities to divert from major highways. If you see highway’s that go around or make big “L” diversions to meet another highway, you’ll often see access roads that will cut through. We often buy lunch to go at some small town, take the trails through national mail, state, or BLM lands, stop for a lunch with a beautiful view, and motor on. It doesn’t save time or anything else, but we enjoy the trip much, much more! Some dirt roads are nice that any car can do, others can have rocky, steep, or rough sections. All I know is you can see things, areas of the country that few will ever see. All it takes is a vehicle with better clearance and a little tougher than your standard car.

Great walk around thanks. As an old style Defender owner I was extremely disappointed to see Land Rover's new style Defender, essentially a Discovery with a Defender badge on it and a far cry from the simplistic rugged 4x4 that many of us want. I've been impressed with the thought and design that has gone into the Grenadier, have paid my deposit to Ineos and am eagerly awaiting a test drive before placing an order.
@@watsonater Hi Mike, prospective build date of March 2023. I took a look at the vehicle at the recent Game Fair & it’s impressive. I’m hoping that the shorter wheelbase might also follow close behind.
This is exactly the vehicle I hoped Land Rover would build 25 years ago. It is amazing what can be achieved when designers listen to what the enthusiasts want. The Grenadier is definitely my favourite dream utility vehicle by far. I think it is absolutely brilliant in every aspect. I like how everything has been thought about by people with a passion for practicality and function as well as the most wanted style. I absolutely love it. For me it's Definitely the best designed 4x4 by far, it's awesomely cool, rugged and refined. Thank You Ineos
Loving the car, my one proviso would be a Speedo in front of the driver because the UK has become a nightmare of Gatso and specs average speed cameras, 1 mph over the limit can get you points on your license or a day’s driver awareness training.
I remember the $50k ish USD idea when this was just a though moving forward and back then it probably could be profitable at that price. I'm sure it will be in the price range of what people are willing to pay for something like this and $50s is what a used Jeep Rubicon is selling for these days. So let's add another $15-20k to that wishful price.
In Europe they start at 60k (50k+tax) but a friend of mine has a fully loaded one on pre-order and they told me 82k incl. tax. I guess the US prices will be pretty much the same.
@@lukasvass681 US prices are often higher on EU built cars. Most outlets say starting price in the UK is 48k British pounds which equates to 65k USD. That also may be the two seat fleet vehicle that won't be sold in the US. Likely it will start at $75k here and go over $100k with options.
I think the base Grenadier will be more in the $65-75K range as well (+hefty destination charge) and $90+K fully loaded. Unless they can sell 100Ks or more a limited production run 4x4 like this will be tough to financially pull off for them at lower price points (e.g base in the 50s). I pre-ordered one but buying it will depend on how they price it and the options.
My buddy is the head of service for Toyota. Back before the new Supra was released, he was telling me about the engine development with BMW. Apparently, the first iteration of that engine was sent to Toyota to test. It failed miserably. Toyota engineers made recommendations. Sent it back. Second engine was still problematic. So Toyota engineers traveled to Germany to help. Third version was then tested, and passed all of Toyota’s quality and reliability standards. I’m glad they are going with that engine, because I really want one of these. Nice to know the engine won’t leave me stranded on the trails. Thanks for the awesome video!
The best 4by4 since the Defender saw its production stopped. I own a 2014 Defender 110 and really admire what Sir Jim Ratcliffe (he is a huge Land River Defender fan by the way!) has achieved. Pure passion!

I totally understand your hype. Here in Europe the offroad community is thrilled. The reason for the design of the rear door is the fact that you need this kind of door in Europe in order to register the vehicle as a utility vehicle aka truck. I won't trade in my Troopy though. Still the best truck. Regards from Germany.
@@scandinavia6271 congrats! So what? 😂 I have my Troopy. That is the reason why I don't need an Ineos. On top it is quite expensive. However, one cannot argue that the Ineos seems to be the best modern offroader by far. Very good package. Looks great too. I think that many people in Europe have a similar opinion. So, you are not excited, which is totally fine but not really important. 😉 Have a good one, mate!
@@GCTO239 You are absolutely right! Maybe I am the only one in Europe not being “Thrilled”👍 Seems to match the new defender specs pretty well on angles and payload. However; ground clearance seem to be on the shy side (according to 4x4 Overland review from Australia). As a long trip overland vehicle I would however take the new defender any day of the week..
@@scandinavia6271 you might take the new Defender, but you might not come back 🤣 Its not just about clearance, its about how that clearance is achieved. no glitchy air suspension sensors, no complicated independent suspension that hampers modification, no over sized drug dealer alloys. 4XOverland went over all this in his video
@@steveofengland The fact still remains; It does actually look challenged from a ground clearance perspective - I agree with 4xOverland on that. Furthermore; Anyone claiming that the Grenadier is “Reliable” has nothing to base that claim on. Ineos never produced cars before…(For the record; I don’t own a Defender myself)
I’m thinking the same thing! I love the simple but comfortable interior (eg:easy clean seats, cruise control, etc) and how easy it is to work on. The Grenadier will be a great replacement with a similar “basic” philosophy.
The speed odometer needs to be in the traditional spot behind the steering wheel so you can simply look downward while driving. Other than that it looks pretty nice. I seriously doubt they'll get it down into the 50k base range. This will be out of reach of most Americans. I'd also be afraid what maintenance costs will be as well since its a British design.
It's actually safer to have the speedo off to your left (right if you live in a country that drives on the wrong side of the road). From my Toyota days when we sold the Yaris, tests done indicated it took 40% less time (or was it 30, too long ago) to look at your speed and get your eyes back on road. I have the traditional speedo in my Defender 130 and also a Pioneer screen in the centre of the dash that syncs with GPS date to display speed. I find myself looking at the Pioneer for speed rather than the speedo.
This will be expensive, but worth it. It has a fully galvanized and powder-coated frame, and all-aluminum radiators, for example. Cararro also makes the axles and diffs for John Deere. You won't find that kind of quality in anything except, perhaps, G-class. I placed my deposit on the first day they opened reservations, Sept 30th of last year.
Yes, no way it's $50k. Estimates are $75k to start. It could easily push it to 100k with options, which makes more sense all things considered. This is a Range Rover/G-Wagon competitor, not a Wrangler competitor.
Cost? I can’t imagine this car coming in below the current LR Defender or even a Ford Bronco. So much going into this vehicle is bespoke and low-volume that it’s manufacturing costs must be higher than it’s competitors (BMW sourced engine, built in Mercedes plant, specked out like $90k defender.) I’d bet this will start in the low $100’s and quickly go to near $150k or more. I miss my ‘90’s Montero.

😃 February 21-2022. This vehicle is awesome. And when you're off roading you do not need a speedometer in front of you. It's already perfect. I sure hope it's available for Canada 🇨🇦 .
As I mentioned one the first video I would love to own one of these Grenadier vehicles. One minor point, strictly for me, I would like to see a simple speedometer right in from of my view as I drive, i.e. in my straight ahead line of vision. I don't want to have to look over to the side to check on my road speed. I do like that this has 17 inch wheels. Good job Tommy!
I thought exactly the same, I liked pretty well everything about this except for the lack of a conventional speedo in front of the driver. Hub of the steering wheel looked a bit bulky but that is modern crash safety I guess. If I could afford it I would definitely be very tempted...
The Grenadier looks amazing. If it can achieve top tier reputation for reliability then it will be a smashing success. UnReliability is one thing it should not inherit from Land Rover.
I would imagine that the BMW shifter does not make it to the production unit. Unless there are electrical components inside the shifter or shift box that have to be connected to the BMW powertrain it should be replaced. That said hopefully with something a little more modern/beefy than the 4H/4L shifter. Both shift knobs seem like parts that were laying around and not purposefully designed components.
@@rlaracue Ineos have said that to develop a new shifter would have cost a significant number of £millions to design, test, manufacture, etc. So they stuck with the BMW part.
@@skwdenyer Actually I heard that the Electronic Gear selector that Ineos is using is actually a ZF made part, like the 8HP transmission and not specifically BMW - but maybe BMW designed it and ZF engineer and make it?
#1. The reason why the original Land Rovers look like modified Jeep Willys is that the British Military was given thousands of Jeep Willys during WW2. The (SAS) claimed they would not have been as successful, against the German Military, in the Dessert Campain as they were without the Jeep Willys. And after the war, those Jeeps were quickly snapped up by British soldiers returning home. So the British started building their own version. #2. The reason why the Toyota FJ looks like the Jeep Willys is that Toyota was awarded a Military Contract to build Jeep Willys for the United States Military during the Korean War. But Toyota being Toyota, their engineers started improving both the engine and suspension design. And after the war, Toyota went to work on designing their own version of a Jeep Willys. Bottom Line, The U.S. Military is directly responsible for both the Land Rover and the Toyota FJ.
actually the designer of the original Land Rover used a Willys Jeep in WW2. he went home to his farm in Wales and allegedly drew the dfirst of his designs in the sand on a beach. the Land Rover may have been INSPIRED by teh Jeep but wasnt a copy of it. despite what is commonly said, very few British troops bought the Jeeps for use back in Britain.

My friend’s mom drove a manual Isuzu Trooper. I like the fact that they included an interior door handle on the rear door so when people build out their interior for Overlanding we can get out.
I love everything about this vehicle except that it seems you cannot turn the infotainment screen off like how you can in other modern cars. Being able to turn the screen off is a great feature for night driving but it seems like you constantly need it on just to see what speed you're going. I really hope they change this or make it possible to have the screen off while still having a speedometer.
I'm so glad this company exists because Land Rover is my favorite company from a heritage standpoint but it's time to admit that Landover is dead and just a shadow of their former self's at this point. It is great to see that another English company is talking the Defender and bringing it into the modern era.
What excites me about this vehicle and why I hope it is very successful, is it will inspire other makers to go back to basics as well and maybe even inspire Toyota to release 79 series style land cruisers in the states.

The designation protects the land from commercial development. And… you can camp on it for free.

Any update on you Grenadier order? Thinking of ordering one
In Australia we had a land cruiser model called the standard in the 80 and 100 series that had the split door. Only came in manual
I’m thinking at least double Tommy’s prediction. Even at $100k, they would almost certainly be able to sell all of these they could make.
PS - I preordered one after watching this video. Thanks!
The best 4by4 since the Defender saw its production stopped. I own a 2014 Defender 110 and really admire what Sir Jim Ratcliffe (he is a huge Land River Defender fan by the way!) has achieved. Pure passion!
I love this thing. Definitely can't wait to see what's to come with this company.
Just love the industrial design. I want one even though I have zero interest in off-roaders.
As someone who has owned Mini Coopers and Prius in the past you will adapted to center gauges rather quickly
And find it less distracting having something in front of you!!!...
If a heads up speedo was available it would be the fix all.
There is plenty of room in the tray to put an aftermarket HUD device 10:42 There are plenty available with a simple GPS speedo. This would also show correct speed if you upsized your tyres.
That is the best 4X4 on the market right now. I’ve been waiting for this to hit the market for years… not that I could afford one!
Love the look if this thing totally want one 👍the tablet display looks great but only grip, speedo and tacho needs to be in line of sight

The Isuzu Trooper had similar doors :)
As does the 70 series Land Cruiser, wagon and troopy versions
This could put the hurt on the 4runner as well as the Bronco, no contest. Well built. Nice engine, killer seats, etc. Now if they could make it long enough to camp/sleep in it would be perfect.
It looks fantastic, I just hope they don't price it out of reach of the people who need a utility vehicle
Woooooow 👏🏻 👏🏻 amazing classic looking with new age of 2023 . I wish that they put a classic dashboard and also this screen in the same time . The man who though to produce this car is genius. I feel nostalgic to old rugged beautiful and classic looking cars .
Well - I am in “Europe” and I am not “thrilled”…
@@scandinavia6271 congrats! So what? 😂 I have my Troopy. That is the reason why I don't need an Ineos. On top it is quite expensive. However, one cannot argue that the Ineos seems to be the best modern offroader by far. Very good package. Looks great too. I think that many people in Europe have a similar opinion. So, you are not excited, which is totally fine but not really important. 😉 Have a good one, mate!
@@GCTO239 You are absolutely right! Maybe I am the only one in Europe not being “Thrilled”👍 Seems to
match the new defender specs pretty well on angles and payload. However; ground clearance seem to be on the shy side (according to 4x4 Overland review from Australia). As a long trip overland vehicle I would however take the new defender any day of the week..
@@scandinavia6271 you might take the new Defender, but you might not come back 🤣
Its not just about clearance, its about how that clearance is achieved. no glitchy air suspension sensors, no complicated independent suspension that hampers modification, no over sized drug dealer alloys.
My dream car
This is an awesome truck ! Love the old school vibes and all the functionality!
Totally worth buying. The new land cruiser for the USA.
They nailed the interior aesthetic!
the trooper! my neighbor in college had one and i was so jealous. she had no idea that she had a super cool truck.
The first generation 4 door Isuzu Trooper was also a fantastic design.
Damn! I at first thought that this was some custom luxory defender that is limited to 50 pcs ever made but this is cool! 😎
I think this thing will be replacing my FJ Cruiser and will look great in the driveway next to the big red H1.
I’m thinking the same thing! I love the simple but comfortable interior (eg:easy clean seats, cruise control, etc) and how easy it is to work on. The Grenadier will be a great replacement with a similar “basic” philosophy.
This is fantastic, other then the Speedo placement. Definitely on the short list, if I win the lottery 😆
One of the most professional reviews I've seen.
@@mechmat12345 This thing will be over 100k The Australian work model two doors go for 62k USD base price without any option.
I've got an early reservation as well. Cant wait! I was guessing it will be around 80k, I hope he's right and its in the 50's.

I can see this selling well in the States and around the world.

If I could afford it I would definitely be very tempted...
picked the wrong time to remodel my wife's kitchen. this ride is awesome. The Isuzu Trooper had similar rear doors.
The Grenadier looks amazing. If it can achieve top tier reputation for reliability then it will be a smashing success. UnReliability is one thing it should not inherit from Land Rover.
It is using a designed chassis, fully galvanized to stop rust, BMW engine and a simply control system.
I suspect it will just work.
Thank you for zooming in on the tire.
good looking vehicle. The transmission selector does not fit well with the rest of the vehicle :)
You guys will have to get one!
I believe that Eisenhower was quoted as saying that the Jeep Willys made the difference in winning the war in Europe.
@@joecanis484 Eisenhowerh may have, but the British SAS have said that if it were not for the Jeep Willys they would not have been as successful in their desert campaign.

The manufacturing facility in France is a Mercedes plant. They used to make Smart ForTwo/ForFour. As the plant was up for sale Ineos bought it.
When they make a 2DR on a 90" to 95" wheelbase, I'll probably want one.
Looks amazing. If a truck version ever makes it to Canada for a reasonable price I might be convinced to trade my Gladiator

Anyone else notice that the decals for the front and rear lockers don't correlate to the proper position? Not a big deal and I'm sure it was just overlooked for a demo vehicle.
Err, no. The decals are above your head not down low. So they are in the proper position.
@@einfelder8262 That's not what I'm talking about. The locker switch labeled "Front" shows an X on the rear axle and the "REAR" locker switch shows an X on the front axle. Pause it at 8:30. @@scottk.8494 Yes, I'm 100% sure that the steering is done by the front wheels turning. So the pictogram showing wheels at 45deg angle must be attached to the front axle.
