Back in 1998, I tried unsuccessfully to use the Pen tool in Photoshop. I was a total beginner. Day after day I was incredibly frustrated and bewildered by this tool that drew stupid gray lines that would disappear. Nothing worked the way I thought it should! One day, I finally learned about vector graphics and path-based artwork. Because of that, I fell in love with any tool that could create a path and I finally dedicated the time to learn how to use the Pen tool. Since then, the Pen tool has been a foundational element in my 20+ years of Photoshop experience. I hope you learn to love the Pen tool as much as I have! Thanks for watching!
❤️
Basically is a matter of forcing yourself to practise and within an hour you get most of the hold of it, but that first hour you would probably like to spend alone or at least without kids due to the cursing hehehehehe.
Thank you so much ! I already knew the basics but I watched this to learn more tricks and now I’m a master of the pen tool thanks to you 🙏🏼 be blessed and have a nice day ❤️
great tuto, especially explaining how to remove parts of path for windows,...
Thanks Nathaniel, it really is good to see you back more often (again), I hope everything in your life is a lot smoother and altogether more nicer for you mate. Hope you’re still enjoying your cycling. I’ve been a subscriber/fan of your tutorials in Photoshop for what seems like decades now. Your my OG content creator and you’ve helped me grow so much as a photoshop user on a daily basis.
🙇🏻♂️
I hope so too! Thank you so much!
I really appreciate your teaching style and I got way more out of the video than I expected. I appreciate the fact you actually demonstrate what happens when you do certain things. Sadly too many folks making the videos have people telling you not to do something but never show you. I guess they haven't seen the one on CTRL-Z 🙂 Well done
Thank u Bro, you just took my PS game to a whole new level. 💪🏾💪🏾
I'm glad you're back!
Brilliant tutorial!
Short and sweet, thanks man!
Another fabulous tutorial. All your tuts are so precise. Love them and glad you're back. I always learn from you. If you wanted to trace the car, windows doors, headlights, mirror with the pen tool could you make the lines visible?
Such a cool and important tutorial on one of the most underestimated tools in PS.
Thank you so much Nathaniel for distilling out the essence and bringing us this very useful tutorial!
As always I just enjoyed watching it!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks!
the are many "learn the pen tool quickly" tutorial vids out there, but this one is very near or at the top of the best list, very well done and thanks a ton!
You make it look so easy ! The pen tool is definitely helpful but so frustrating lol. YOU ARE GREAT, thanks for this tutorial
Great tutorial, thank you for the amazing explanation!

Hey, thanks!
Fabulous instructor, truly well practiced, knowledgeable and to the point!!!
Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words!
very good, thanks
Basic is always great with your teaching skills 👍
I appreciate that!
Muchas gracias
So far I've been using various types of the Lasso Tool to make selections. I'll have to try it with this and compare the results. Most selections are characters. Could be interesting.
Could be cool! When you get fast with the Pen tool, you can move through selection very quickly!
Welcome back!
Thank you!
The one thing that both Ps and Illustrator seem to be missing is the ability to shorten one half of a pair of control handles without altering the tangential direction. This can be achieved, I think, by clicking the actual curve segment and moving it but it’s the finer control that I miss.
I agree, Would be cool to have a Shift+Alt kind of hotkey to lock in that tangent handle angle. Good idea.
Thanks
Thanks for watching!
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using this method of selection as opposed to a layer mask? Thank you
I used to hate the pen tool
But now i enjoy using it especially in illustrator
Yes! Illustrator is my favorite!
thanks for this brutha!
Thanks for watching, man!
@@tutvid you've always made great content so I'm glad you're still going!
El software con licencia de estudiante trae alguna desventaja? Cómo algunas opciones que no estén disponibles?
Very informative.
How to get that banana icon?
I honestly feel that all these new features in PS are just attempts (both bad and ingenious) to circumvent people's anxiety when trying to learn and use the Pen Tool. It's an opinion based on years of observation. The Pen tool still remains to be my go-to power tool and it has never failed me. Would you rather cut with a scalpel or a serrated knife?
I kind of agree with you. Nothing is more versatile or to-the-point as the pen tool (once you know how to use it.)
@@tutvid People just need to brave it out and get over that hill.
I thought it was a hoax, but everything works!
Sir i am beginner in photoshop, pls also mention shortcut keys details in your tutorial videos to understand easily. This will be hepl ful for us. Thanks
I usually do. I was in a rush to get this edit finished so I skipped the hotkey pop ups. They will be back in the future 😁
@@tutvid thanks so much sir. i watch ur every videos, thanks so much for teaching us.
My selected path never retains the color… it’s just black. What am I doing wrong?
Does not work now in Photoshop 2023, follow exactly and cannot alter car colour it alter the outside only?
Hey hello i have a question hope u see it o i did every step like 10 times now and i cant deselect windows and stuff like that
I've watched so many videos on the pen tool over the years....I still don't use it lol.
was alittle to fast at the end.Spent 3 hours still cant make path separate layer no instructions on that
yikess. my fill is filling everything outside of the path not inside
I think you mean "Parent the pen tool QUICKLY!", since the word "master" might offend some, so Adobe changed it to "parent".
I just hope the algorithm doesn't pick it up and ding me!
Bri eli
thank you so much!
