    ▶ In this video I talk about the countries that the United States have, throughout their history, officially invaded. The 'officially' is important, given that presence of US troops in various regions throughout the world is very common at many points in history. But for this video, I decided to limit the scope to the actual official invasions, by land troops, of a territory belonging to a country that the US were at war with. I also briefly mention the full number of conflicts that the US has been involved with, accounting for the number of victories, losses, or unresolved and current conflicts. After providing an overview of all the modern countries (or historical predecessors) whose territory the US has at one point invaded, I go through a reasonably sized list of examples of these invasions, looking into some in more detail and learning why, when and how the United States of America moved forward with these invasions. With the biggest element of this being understanding the motive for said invasion; most often to conquer new territories, establish influence / prevent another power from doing so, or to guarantee trade and business interests. Save a few exceptions when righteousness was truly the reason for invasion. In these examples we shortly learn about cases such as the First Barbary War, when they invaded Algiers, Tunis, Morocco or Libya, protectorates of the Ottoman Empire. The Spanish-American War, where they took the remnants of the Spanish Colonial Empire for themselves (Cuba, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Guam), the invasions of Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Iraq, Lebanon or Afghanistan. As well as their expeditions to Korea and China during colonial times. Not to mention the various interventions, some of which part of the 'Banana Wars' in Central America and the Caribbean; invading and occupying nations such as Nicaragua, Panama, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, among a few more.

    The U.S. invaded Russia during and after the Russian Revolution. The American Expeditionary Force (AEF) North Russia landed in Arkhangelsk and the AEF Siberia in Vladivostok both in 1918. The Arkhangelsk force did not penetrate very far into Russia because resupply of the forces became difficult and they were unable to successfully recruit Anti-Bolshevik forces to aid the invasion. The goal was to reach forces of the Czechoslovak Legion that had been fighting the Germans in WWI and had become stranded inside Bolshevik Russia. They were attempting to retreat, but were barred from returning to their homeland to the west as by that time Russia had exited the war and didn't want anti-Central Power belligerents crossing into the Eastern Front from now neutral Russia. They were ordered to go east to Vladivostok to sail to Europe from there, which is why the AEF Siberia landed in Vladivostok and traveled west via the Trans-Siberian Railway to secure the members of the Czechoslovak Legion. They also wanted to keep Japan from using the Russian Revolution as a pretext to create a puppet state in the Russian Far East as they eventually successfully did in Manchuria and Korea before WWII. While the AEF Siberia did manage to help evacuate the Czechoslovak Legion, both AEF interventions are regarded as failures/defeats for the U.S.

      That's why making these types of categorizations is so difficult. It is easy to say that the lands invaded as part of the Spanish American War "belonged" to Spain and therefore identify that as the country being invaded.
      In the case of North Africa in WW2, there is room for some ambiguity. Morocco was under the control of Vichy France, but it can be argued that Vichy France was a puppet regime under control of Germany.
      So was it independent enough to count as its own country for the purposes of this video, or should Germany be considered to have control of Morocco indirectly through its client state?
      There is not an absolute right or wrong answer.

    1:58: “the contiguous 48 saw no conflict in their land in ww2”
    here are some additional examples of attacks, incidents, or espionage that occurred within the contiguous 48 states during World War II:
    1. Operation Pastorius - In 1942, a group of eight German saboteurs landed on the east coast of the United States with the goal of conducting acts of sabotage. The group split up into two teams and attempted to plant explosives at various targets, such as aluminum plants and hydroelectric facilities. However, their plans were foiled when one of the saboteurs turned himself in to the FBI, leading to the capture of the rest of the group.
    2. Bombing of the West Coast - In June 1942, a Japanese submarine fired shells at Fort Stevens in Oregon, causing minor damage but no casualties. In September of the same year, another Japanese submarine shelled the oil fields near Santa Barbara, California, causing minor damage.
    3. Duquesne Spy Ring - A German espionage network known as the Duquesne Spy Ring operated in the United States during World War II. The ring was composed of 33 spies, most of whom were trained in Germany and sent to the United States to gather intelligence. The FBI eventually infiltrated the ring and arrested its members, resulting in the conviction of 33 spies.
    These are some examples of attacks, incidents, and espionage that occurred within the contiguous 48 states during World War II, excluding training exercises and the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

    What about Northern Russian expedition during russian civil war? USA intervened on the side of the white forces against the bolshevicks (in modern day Arkhangelsk oblast). It mostly consisted of small scale scirmishes though of about few thousand soldiers before americans just withdrew. And in russian far east Vladivostok and Khabarovsk regions as well there were bigger battles with red forces and partisans, the occupation of Vladivostok was the longest in the civil war. The war however was on very small scale and very unpopular in America so it pulled out relatively quickly.     2 - A direct concerted military invasion and engaged hostilities alongside Belgian paratroopers, the French, West Germans, British, Dutch, Spanish, Portugese, Morrocans, Liberians, South Africans, South West Africans, Canadians, the Israeli and other state-members military powers of the ex-Block West as well as the Blue Helmets (mostly Liberians, Morrocans, British, French and Americans) against the Lumumbist-aligned Revolutionary Simba Army led by General Nicholas Phillipe Olenga (a cousin to first Congo Prime Minister Patrice Emery Lumumba T'Olenga and Congolese stateman Pierre Mulele, who was a co-leader of the faction) during the Congo War of 1963-65. it even did goes as far as _dropping an American nuclear warhead unto a random Congolese village someplace at the Province of Equateur, k*lling countless innocent lives_ ;

    6 - And another military ingerence in the Democratic Republic of Congo from 1998-2001, having even dispacted his units on front of the Second Congo War (1998-2003) ;
    7 - Ongoing US military ingerence in Somalia from 2007 to present day;
    8 - Following accusations electoral fraud and corruption rose by his political opposition and a nationwide uproar from the population in 2007, then-Prime Minister if the Democratic Republic of Congo Joseph Kabila solliciatted the aid of the Blue Helmets and of the US in order to deterrently "pacify" and quell the social unrest;

    10 - Ongoing US military ingerence in Niger, Chad, Sudan, and Mali since the early 2010s. Yes, it is no coincidence that they've been ingering themselves all across the Sahelo-Sudanian Plains: former POTIS Barack Obama's administration publicly affirmed wanting to secure the comstruction of a "super-highway" crossing Africa from Somalia to Senegal through the Sahel, in an attempt to undermine both Chinese, Iranian and Russian neocolonial interests on the African continent, strengthen American imperialist presence in Africa and jeopardize the budding economic boom of African nations;
    11 - U.S. military ingerence in various West African countries and cold war against Chinese both neocolonial and humanitarian ingerences, during the Ebola Crisis of 2014;
    12 - The Democratic Republic of Congo, once again. Following accusations of electoral fraud and corruption by the political opposition and the electoral population in 2019, current President Félix Tshikededi opposed a period of social unrest.
    This uproar has been quickly stifled down into silent as an angry then-POTUS Donald Trump _tweeted_ threateningly that he was going to dispatch the US Navy in DRC to intimidate the population into silent;
    Then 13 - In 2020, then-POTUS Donald Trump, other Western countries and China enforced altogether an economic and military embargo against Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Madagascar for diferent motives (China wanted for a while to scapegoat DRC as the origin source of the COVID virus in front of Asian medias, in a vain effort to bully DRC into getting more receptive to Chinese's economic sights over the country and sheer racism. Also, both Nigeria, DRC and Madagascar developped and sold in their respective countries an antipaludic beer brand which allegedly has proven to he efficient to elimimate COVID. This profoundly and reportedly has displeased both China and the West for a while, before they change their mind in 2021) .

During the Korean war the USA did invade China which caused the Chinese government to send its forces into Korea and the coalition forces were pushed back to where the original north and south Korean border, this border was the agreed border at the end of ww2 just like the north and south Vietnam border was the agreed border. This agreement was made between Stalin and the USA. The invasion of China during the Korean war ended Macarthur's career because he was ordered not to enter China, if he hadn't disobeyed his orders, there would not be a north and south Korea today. During the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920) World War I occurred and by the time Germany began to lose in 1917, they sent a secret telegram to the president of Mexico via their ambassador in which they PROPOSED that if we allow them to use us as a floormat to invade the US, Germany would later "help us" recover the lost territories of Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. California wasn't mentioned. The pact was more than rejected by Venustiano Carranza because it didn't make any sense. And that was it.
    On the other hand, Pancho Villa decided to raid the border town of Columbus in 1916 because he felt like it. No it was a status quo. The US was repelled from Canada and Britain was repelled from Maryland and New Orleans. After the British were defeated by Andrew Jackson and his forces in the Battle of New Orleans, the two sides agreed on a status quo.

      The US did lose the war of 1812 against British North America. If you invade to take over the land and fail, then that is a failure. It seems that only American say it was a tie, probably due to ego. My ten cents.

      @@jjmantecon628 The Battle of New Orleans was fought (8 Jan 1815) AFTER the war had technically ended (treaty signed 24 Dec 1814), but given the speed of communication in the day, Gen. Andrew Jackson hadn't heard the news from Europe and proceeded with the assault and won a big victory, which propelled him to national prominence and eventually the Presidency.

    • @hawx00145
      @hawx00145 Před rokem +4

      It was technically a tie, but prospectively the US felt victorious as it repelled the British from retaking it's former colony, Canada felt victorious by standing their ground on what seemed like a US expansion, and meanwhile the British was too busy fighting Napoleon...

      Because they did bad stuff in their past that every country have done? Most of those invasion wasn’t just invading a country for no reason. Almost all of them are justified, like the US invading Cuba because they have nukes point at the US.
      When you saved the world from communism and your aid to different country have save over a 100 million people. And your the global leader in the creation and promotion of human rights. And made the UN and NATO for world peace. And stop Iraq from taking over Kuwait, free Kosovo from Serbia and help Yemen, Somalia, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Taiwan, etc in its war. Your the party to many human rights treaties and, unlike many other nations, abides by those treaty commitments. The U.S. has led the charge to hold violators of human rights to account, including fighting hard for imposing Security Council sanctions on the Sudanese government until it stops supporting the militia groups that are committing genocide in Darfur and helps to restore order to the region. Done more good than any country In the world. Than yes, you are the good guy.

      Absolutely ridiculous statement. The U.S.A. has been one of the pioneers of human development for the past 200 years. All countries and all people are multi-faceted. The U.S.A. doesn't "only do invasions and nothing else". The U.S.A. is a technological, scientific, cultural, and societal innovator. The U.S.A. has given many great things to the world, while they have done many bad things at the same time. This is true of most countries around the world.

    The entire settlement of west (throughout the 1800s) was one long invasion of foreign lands... The lands of indigenous tribes. Most Americans are blind to that fact. Listing north American natives is one country is kind of silly. It's kind of like considering all of Europe as a single country. I feel like most tribes would be annoyed by this video. Also we still have ongoing conquest of tribes today as we have folks chipping away at tribal reservation lands.

    The year 1898 was the end of the Spanish Empire 🇪🇸 with the loss of Cuba 🇨🇺, Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 and the Philippines 🇵🇭. This was the beginning of a crisis that reached its climax with the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). We would not recover from that crisis until the 1960s with the opening of our economy abroad and the massive arrival of European tourists 🇩🇪🇬🇧

    2:36 How could you say that the Philippines is not well established at that time? Which in fact, the Philippines has a recognized government which is the Revolutionary Government of "Biak na Bato". Or, you are just saying that "the Philippines is not well established" at that time, simply because, we do not have enough international recognition by that time. Actually, when the US and Spain are settling using Treaty of Paris, there is no delegation coming from that Philippine Government that I mentioned.

      10:42 I really like how you use the term "immediate", here, since the government that I mentioned only lasted for three years, from 1898 to 1901. After that, that is now the official invasion of US to the Philippines. And by 1935, the Philippines is now incorporated to US as Philippine Commonwealth.
