I love how Paladin-y the Paladin is. Flashy armor, glowing sword, fancy speech, going on and on about honor and devotion. It's textbook.

@@riardomilos8014 I dunno if he was a GMPC meant to get things on track with the cast or that one party member who had scheduling conflicts and could only show up to one session; the only player who took his character role seriously compared to the other goof balls lol.

I don't know a lot about D&D, but this scene made me think of a new saying, "Beware the fat dragon, smart enought to kill with as little effort as possible."

This also implies a fat predatory in the wild is especially dangerous.
The dragon was tortured, and exploited since birth by the Duergar. This scene is also ridiculous because both the fat dragon, and them are fighting in the outer lair of a dracolich that is more powerful than Elminster himself, and protected by Mystra, Elminster's own patron goddess.
I think we can go ahead and officially declare this movie the most underrated film of the year. I mean this scene alone makes it worthy of more credit.

tend to happen when the producer have dual goal in mind, appeal to young gens + stay based/true to the roots
I think it is not underrated... The critics are mostly positive. But it may had deserve more people watching it on cinema... 🫠
I just wish this film wasn't sandwhiched between John Wick 4 and the Mario movie. Doing that just really frickin' hurt its theater performance.

Red dragons are tough as hell. Even the most experienced dragon hunters are hesitant to take on a red dragon.
The way I see it, it wanted to eat us and failed to even kill us.
I call that a win.
Fun Fact: Themberchaud (the fat dragon) like some of the characters in this movie is an actual character in dungeons And Dragons outside of the film.
Out of the Abyss campaign specifically.

Also Szass Tam and Lord Neverember (the family at least; the Neverember we see in the film isn't even given a first name iirc).

In all my years of DND, never in a million years would the idea of a CHUBBY Dragon ever come to my mind
Well he’s an official character from the lore; Themberchaud, he’s fat because he was used as a portable forge slave by the dwarves and deliberately overfed so he couldn’t escape and would be easier to kill when he got too big to be kept safely.

When you have that one friend who's really into D&D, busts out all the books, knows all the rules, utilizing his turn to the fullest. All the while you're just waiting for your turn XD
I mean he's a paladin, he gets one attack every 6 seconds. This ain't no one turn lol.
I never played it. People in comments often talk about how accurate this series is to rules of the game. I feel like I spent my life for wrong things

@@Grintock DMPC paladin, probably at least level 11 so he can get natural smite damage without spending spells thus the nonstop magical goodness. This also gets him 2 attacks per turn in addition to the additional one for dual wielding (lack of damage bonus is mitigated by the paladin smit), saving throws out the butt and probably some crown powers that force everyone to target him. Essentially... he's a tricked out DMPC to deal with the obvious cinematic moment.
That paladin wasn't a player, that was the DM character used to help get the party back on the main quest.

Little funfact, the duergar (the dwarfs of the underdark) produce these dragons for their forges by overfeeding them so they can't move really. And if they get too big they kill them and start over.
Themberchaud got fat be eating the duegar who use his fires in their forging

In the game Themberchaud is actually stronger than most red dragons, his only weakness is that he cannot fly that well, but in any other aspect he excels

Still doesn't make sense to me how a dragon can get so overweight. There's hardly anything to eat down there.

Someone above said that some dwarfs overfeed these dragons so they can’t move and use them for their furnaces
Basically the Duergar (Dwarves that live in the Underdark) train young red dragons to be the heat source for their forges. They over feed the dragons so they become dependent on the duergar. However this isn't really healthy for the dragons so they soon become overweight and mostly immobile. However these are still dragons so when they grow large enough to pose a possible problem they're killed and the process is started again.
@@rcslyman8929 - No, every campaign in Underdark has shown me that it's NOT the place for dragon appetizers. Especially the shrooms.

This reminds me of the dragon empress in the D&D webcomic Order of the Stick. She is not the sharpest knife in the drawer and since she heard that the bigger a dragon gets the more powerful it becomes, she is overeating to get bigger. :) Ep 719 and 754 feature her particularly.

I went to the cinema with my girlfriend to a sneak preview without knowledge which movie will be shown. You can imagine how happy we were as we found out it is the D&D Movie. Especially because we wanted to watch it either way.

@@zuttoaragi8349 Watch the first movie again, there's a scene where the group of survivors is being chased by two raptors while sneaking in the air vents. One of them pops his head out a ceiling tile from below, is kicked back down by one of the protagonists, and tries to jump back to the air vent and chomp the girl's leg off. It is almost 1:1 the same animation that is used in this scene with the dragon x)

To me a fat dragon is Alligator/ Crocodile rules. The fatter they are the more dangerous they are. A regular Croc or Gator Igor be scary but you don’t want to mess with one that managed to get a lot of meat on their bones.
