      Did you know that a harmonica player playing any piece doesn't even have the ability to check which channel of the harmonica is blowing and which one is sucking in air.
      It doesn't matter if Oh Susanna plays or Chopin plays...
      So the conclusion suggests itself. A real musician hears with his whole body.

    • @DamianLirettePiano

      It's because of muscle memory. Most high end pianists can play without looking at the keys due to hours and hours of repetition.

    • @DamianLirettePiano
      @DamianLirettePiano Před 8 měsíci +7

      @@trumpetmom8924true. Liszt is generally more difficult to play without looking because he uses more jumps in his music. Chopin's is more fluid and doesn't require the whole hand to move as often. Both have extremely technical music.

      @@DamianLirettePiano doesn't even have to be high-end. I'm 48 and I've been playing since I could reach the keys. I'm terrible, but some of my best work (for me anyway) was me on multiple keyboards in the middle of the night with the lights off. That and a limited acquired perfect pitch made it pretty easy.

    I have spent DECADES humming a tune to people who know their music and asking "What on earth is this called?!", and whilst everyone knew the tune, no one could name it.

    • @briansransom
      @briansransom Před 9 měsíci +2

      Nonsense, pianists are trained to not look at their hands. Normally they have sheet music to read while they’re playing, and they can’t look down and back up. They learn to feel the keys with the sides of their fingers.

    • @aris1956
      @aris1956 Před 9 měsíci

      @@briansransom Sorry, I don't think it's “nonsense”. Not every pianist in the world playing various pieces one after another looks the whole time into a camera without ever looking on the piano (even the world's greatest pianists). Most look at the sheet music, and even on the piano. Many who play without sheet music, as he does here, only look on the piano. He here instead plays all the time looking only into a camera. This is what I wanted to say.

    • @briansransom
      @briansransom Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@aris1956 OK, what I wanted to say, since you want to go there, is that not only are pianists trained to not look at their hands while they’re playing, but this guy creepily stares at the camera the whole time. Nobody does that. It’s just weird. What is he looking at? Is he observing your jaw dropping on the floor as he’s playing so amazingly? That’s about the most on musical approaches I’ve ever seen in any video anywhere.

      I believe someone commented on another vid of his that he has the score posted beside the camera. So he IS actually looking at the score. I do agree though it is impressive that he is doing it by feel. However if you had been playing piano for along as he has and all the hours of practice it takes to get to this level. I can see that it is probably not 5hat difficult for him.

    I think I only recognized maybe... four? Five? Perhaps six, but I don't think any more of 'em. 🙂 And all things being equal, I'm kind of one of those "I really do enjoy classical pieces" kinds of individuals. But I'm not obsessed, and I'm obviously aware that there are THOOOUUUSANDS of pieces all over the bloody place. Some are well known, some not so much.

    #17 Thanks for revealing what that piece was I heard on the Cloverway dub of _Sailor Moon S_ (specifically, "Bad Harmony." You know, where Serena enters Darien's apartment and accidentally spills her [overbaked] cookies, and at the concert) and some commercial (but I don't recall the product or company).

    My late grandad Pim Koopman of Diesel and Kayak fame used to play piano like this and talk to me at the same time, always blew my mind. Your constantly glaring face (and facial similarity) brought back fond memories, thank you! BTW you got some SKILLS, love your Popeye version!

    Ad 14) We often get trouble tickets reading "MoH plays Kleine Nachtmusik. Please check music server". In Siemens/Unify phone switches, Kleine Nachtmusik is the standard melody for Music on Hold (MoH), the music you hear in the waiting loop. So in this case, I actually know what the song is called. (Most other music is Romanticism, which I normally don't listen to, and thus I even didn't know the song, less so its name).
