I am not sure about the older ones, but a 1967 long bed has 100 bolts holding the metal sides and the wood strips. Be warned. That like $280 at Home Depot compared to half that for kits! DK, retired tech.

You saying kits are cheaper or home Depot?

@@sciberras89 If you are buying just the fasteners for a long bed, it takes a bunch of bolts (100 carriage head bolts, washers, lock washer and nuts). I have never seen any company sell bed wood kits sold that has wood cheaper than a home improvement store!
I bought all the hardware at a one man store to support my local vendor. The wood is treated, placed in plastic lined trough and covered with used motor oil, diesel, linseed oil and left to soak for a month. I placed the boards on my rack to drain for weeks. Please note, cut to length, holes drilled counter-sunk mount holes (1/8” X 32 mm).
K-Mar in OK City have an entire section w/photos of treaded lumber of various species and coatings left exposed to sun and elements. None passed!
The 65 C10 Apache I spent $150 in 69, came from a construction company. This truck carried diesel, oil and waist oil & other lubricants. Leaks, spills from barrels had the factory wood in perfect condition. Now, I apologize for maybe I was short on time and poor choice of woods, or explanation.
The factory kits have to cut, drilled and fitted to a bed that is installed square, but it is cheaper to research bolts locally and sometime lumber mills for a resinous wood. Osage Orange and Hickory are good choices. But I ask them, based upon use & what they have harvested. But stopping at a gas station, people always come over to look inside the bed, cab & under the hood, plus stories.

How many bolts actually held the bed on? 4
Trying to figure out where the main bolts go

I believe there was 4 main bolts in each corner but I can’t actually remember

      @@TheGreaterThanClub no that
Sounds right. I think they go all the way through the frame. Ok thanks man.

How many of those cross members that the bed sits on are there in total including the rear one that was attached to the sides?. I have a long bed that came with the bed semi taken apart and including the rear cross member that sits right behind the bumper, I have a total of 6 but it seems like I am missing one in front of the two wheel tubs .not sure the total amount required for a long bed

Good video. Haven't checked if you have more but if you do I'll definitely be subbing. I've got a 66 GMC long box that I'm wanting to work on
