  • In this video, we round out this C10 step side patina truck with a custom wood bed built on a budget! This project was completed in 5 hours with less than $400 in materials. We updated the bed strips to match the patina on the truck for a more cohesive look for this chevy truck.
    Bed Strips from Classic Industries
    Wood Used: Cedar from Lowes

I love it! I dunno why, like you said the first thing I look at on these trucks is the bed😆

The truck bed came out great! I bought 14 reclaimed 2 x 8 southern yellow pine boards at a junk lumber store for $38. Powder coated the same strips white and polished sstl hardware kit. Filled the nail holes with clear epoxy and then hit the milled boards with some spar varnish from Lowes. It has been in my 62 (avatar) for 7 or more years now.

I just got myself a 1983 stepside and definitely needed to see this video. Seeing it was posted 2 days after i got my truck, i am glad i stumbled upon your channel. I was searching how to bag a square body c10 and watched those videos. then i seen this one. i'll be doing mine as soon as possible. the piece of plywood and twin bed slats were good enough to take out the trash, but it'll start warping soon.

I think the cedar looks killer. Now it needs a custom fab'd cooler mount for a vintage-ish igloo or Coleman cooler with a BDSA logo on it.

One thing about using oil is you can go back once a year and reoil it to keep it fresh

looks great, if you really wanted a pho-tina, you could take the bed strips, carrage bolts and submerge them in vinegar for 24 hours. that will strip any galvinazation/zinc off em. then dust em with paint (like long distance, your looking for hint a color being there, then lightly sand the high points) then spray em with a mixture of 16 ounces of Hydrogen Peroxide, 2 ounces of vinegar and a tablespoon of salt. mist em a few times a day for 2-3 days before assembly. that will rust em up.

What would’ve been kick ass for that color and patina of the truck, if you would’ve done a cold blue on the floor runs. I ain’t saying to use the old bone meal method of bluing, which the colors are phenomenal. Any type of hard case bluing that would have a warped color to it would’ve been sweet.

Torched boards, with oil, find some steel (not stainless) floor runs and put a nice cold bluing and make the color look warped like an old Winchester!
