  • Thanks to Zilch Fox for this, what an awesome and super easily performed glitch. I had a little more time to test this out and I found out it only works on Cloud, I'm guessing it has something to do with his animation. It does work on any field though, so have fun exploring all the fields you can break!

    @ArcaneEther Před 4 lety +22

    Just a thought, but I think that this glitch is happening because of a function racing condition.
    A racing condition is when two or more processes demand processor attention at the exact same time, leaving either the operating system or the processor core itself to handle the discrepancy.
    Depending on how the OS or the core are designed to handle racing conditions, one or both of the processes could simply be terminated, or they could both occur in an unexpected order, or one could be terminated and the other executed. Racing conditions can lead to TONS of quasi-behavior in complex programs and are generally handled by locking one or more functions until higher priority functions complete their processor use.
    In this case, I think the function that trigger's Cloud's "jump back" animation is racing with the function of the Reflect Ring "bouncing" the Barrier effect back.
    This causes the "jump back" and the "bounce" effect to race with one another, with the "bounce" taking higher priority, terminating the "jump back".
    The reason Wall works better is because it casts not just Barrier on the target, but also MBarrier. This creates two "bounce" events, one for each spell, further complicating the racing condition.

    I'm sure you've already figured it out, but I'm sure w-magic activates Everyone's Grudge because Mastery To berry will respond with Everyone's Grudge the second time he's targeted in between his turns. So since Wall is being cast twice on him he responds with his counter

    What was interesting is that Tonbery actually attacked Cloud when he was like 3 metres behind the monster even though the Knife is an attack used once the monster has walked to point x/gone that many steps. So even if Cloud does not stand there, as long as the monster does, it does not care.

      @zilchfox Před 5 lety +8

    Dont actually know if this has been covered in your tutorials or if anyone already knows this but I think it's worth noting.
    Long story short, a magic counter paired with any magic/summon, AND a counter paired with a mime, in this order, allow the magic/summon to be cast as a counter attack even with not enough MP as long as the caster has not been crippled with status ailments that prevent casting.
    I saw it in an yt tutorial on how beating Ruby with lv1 Yuffie. She was able to summon KotR with 10mp or less. Tested on the original PC version, and it works.

    It cuts off Clouds animation because Reflect takes effect. So the order goes
    1.Wall
    2 wall move animation + Reflect animation.
    3. Move back animation +reflect animation.
    This teleports cloud to the first animation. Therefore cutting off Cloud. You see this mid move back to position 0 for the battle position. Cloud teleports at the end of the animation.

    • @zilchfox
      @zilchfox Před 5 lety +2

      That's just simply how Ultima Weapon works. When Cloud has less than 50% HP, his sword turns blue, and the reason is to give the player the indication that he will do less damage (as with Ultima Weapon's stats, his damage is based on how much % HP he has remaining. Less HP = less damage output), which is why you'd want a Cloud equipped with that sword to always have max HP whenever possible so he can always deal the most damage.

    Materia were Cloud: Mime-HP Plus, Enemy Skill. Yuffie: Mime-HP plus. Cid- Mastered Double Cut-HP plus.
