FFVII - Aeris Elevator Glitch [4-8Live]

  • To be clear, since I kind of jumped around a lot in this video, the glitch itself happens when you gain movement of Aeris without cancelling the text box at the elevator. You can then leave the Shinra HQ as Aeris, which can cause some weird stuff to happen like walking off the moving elevator and interacting with Aeris' ghost. The last part with Cloud climbing in midair only happens when you change the game code to match the same progress number as when the leaving midgar cutscene is supposed to happen, which by the way is 335 if anybody else wants to try it. The regular glitch can be done on any version of the game and is pretty easy to pull off, so give it a go if you want to experiment yourself!

    There’s an interesting little addition to this glitch that you might not know about. The part where you think the game soft locks when Aerith’s text box doesn’t appear, you can get past that by going back and interacting with the lift that Aerith comes out of. The text goes all weird but the scene continues as normal. Sadly, nothing substantial and still no Midgar skip but the most interesting thing is when the music fades out just before the cutscene where the group escapes and Aerith leaves the room, ALL of the music fades out all the way up past Wall Market then the music starts again past that. Also, if you let the scene play out while interacting with the lift, that text box will appear all the way through the FMV sequence.

    I figured out you can do something similar to this glitch when the plate is about to collapse. Right after you fight Reno, Tifa says you need to help me stop the bomb (or something like that) and I talked to Barret and his text box stayed on the screen while I could move (the text box was, “DAMN ITS A TIME BOMB”), so I went to the bomb and the double text box appeared and I could move when Tseng was in the helicopter, this is probably useless, but if you could do something amazing with this glitch go ahead.

    This is uber late, but in areas where only one character is loaded, it will default the character model instead of doing a model lookup because:
    *1.* it's easier code wise
    *2.* and because that's a common "trick" to use in programming: whereby if you know the state of something cannot be anything BUT one value, you can skip the lookup and just use what you have and know already, and instead, just run with it... these kinds of techniques ate used to speed up execution in areas where speed and execution is MORE CRITICAL than being 100% perfect, legitimate, & dynamic.
    You can also do this (or prove the theory) by utilizing a warp cheat or warp glitch to load into the climbing section when somebody else besides Aeris/Cloud are even IN your party, let alone the field model loading party leader. I suggest removing both entirely from party if you want to be 100% certain it's because he's not in the party, not it's Aeris, and that it's definitely NOT because you glitched it right there with Aeris specifically as lead... and with him as a NON lead but still in party (requires cheat because he defaults lead when in the party as another built-in code trim technique) to prove it's because he's the only character model
    Little things like this AS WELL AS the reason they did a flag for dmg and auto assumed that if the flag is Dmg but the enemy gains health, then roll the numbers through the overflow or "flip thr result again"via a 2's complement of thr result... it's because they tried to limit code copy-pastes...
    and so , you will have certain functions, actions, or "macros" as you might know them from excel or ms office , that get reused EVERYWHERE. Changing it in iber olave floor something they didn't intend or for one feature where you can almost NOT accomplish without serious tomfoolery, such as dealing 264k dps, would both be cancelled and forgotten because:
    *1.* they were on a tight budget...
    *2.* they had very limited media storage... (SAME reason why Mortal Kombat had several characters that were literally a reskin via a taking the original skin and applying a certain color mask like subzero vs scorpion vs reptile, noob saibot, rain, etc... they could then give fewer attacks to each ninja and then convince players they created 2-4 characters for roughly 1/2 to 1/4 of the storage space, memory allocations, register loading/overloading, and a bunch of stuff that's way over most people's heads unless they want to learn more)... _see note 1_
    *3.* the psx/ps had very limited onboard memory for graphics/videos, music, sound effects, menus, backgrounds, regular behind-the-scenes game operation, standard "keep the playstation on, running, and responsive" needs, etc... doubly so for older consoles. _see note 1 &2 below..._
    Quick aside: in games like destiny 2, it's possible to make certain timers, such as the "you took too long and a teammate is in the next section so you are about to be teleported" timer, go full on negative. This depends because they both:
    *1.* do NOT do the older, but still favored circular rounding technique: _[if you reach too low when decreasing a number, round it to the maximum valid value; but if you reach to high when going up, round it to the minimum value]_
    *2.* AND do not do any kind of check to ensure that if you skip past your target minimum/maximum, then handle the error with either a circular rounding technique or pretend you hit a wall and perform the ping-pong technique: _[if you hit outside the acceptable range, ALLWAYS reverse the direction, and restart you at the range boundary you just left...i.e. to sau the allusion/metaphor of ping-pong farther: if you hit or shoot past the left paddle, reset the ball at THAT paddle and reverse direction exactly and then let the ball go.]_
    If you've ever seen that screen saver with the balls that bounce around on the screen, or the bubbles one threeway came with windows vista iirc (whenever aero was introduced), normally the bubbles will give around until you *1.* leave the screensaver mode naturally or *2.* because it runs out of memory and crashes or *3.* because your harddrive turns off or *4.* because your computer goes into hibernation, sleep, hybrid-sleep, or powers down... however, their maath used to keep the balls from glitching utilize the ping-pong effect and never causes any trouble until you have two different screens attached with different resolutions or with pixel density... then, the math can cause issues where a bubble goes so fast that it moves from outside another bubble to the point where their borders are inside eachother... this causes them to either eject at double speed away from eachother OR to get stuck inside eachother until the bubbles are inside eachother and glitching along the walls while sucking up your GPU's memory, your computer's dedicated memory, and CPU cycles which eventually causes a hard (BSOD) or soft (exception that crashes gcard and forces you into safemode) crash.
    This kind of problem was rather hard to deal with back in the day, specifically on consoles, because of hardware limitations... nowadays, these kinds of problems are super simple to resolve and there's almost no excuse for them winding up in AAA titles, let alone 1st Party titles except when re-releasing classics for hardcore fans that want them to remain because these decades old secrets are part of the charm of the games they _"fell in love with"_ growing up.

    **Note 1**
    The ps1 version was copied over to pc, they did quite a few things in pc-specific code, despite all the rumors that indicate otherwise, to make it possible to even play on PC because of lost code, intracompany policies, legal issues, IP conflicts, etc... however they tried to mimic thr game as closely as possible and while they introduced new glitches, they chose to keep existing glitches after a huge fallout when they tried to fix certain "loved/hated" glitches and fans flipped out... so they literally recoded some glitches back onto the game for the parts they had fixed and the parts they had rewritten. Code that was unchanged, naturally remained unchanged, but that's why you can STILL perform certain glitches like the overflow damage, both W-Item glitches, the highwind dropoff glitches (get special materia without green/blue/black chocobos), gold chocobo without racing glitch, and a few others...
    **Note 2**
    Check out videos that explain how to perform the instant credits glitch for Super Mario World that involves placing title shells throughout a level to move memory around until you *_essentially_* program the memory and SNES registers to skip you directly to the credits scene for an example that's pretty easy to understand even if you aren't a programmer, coder, hacker, computer nerd, tech expert, or even tech savvy... look for a video that explains HOW to do the "pass thru wall" glitch with Mario 1 for speedruns. It's under easy for the computer to time but was nearly impossible to perform by hand without modded controllers until not to long ago. This is harder to understand from a ley perspective, but if you have a wikipedia page open you should be able to get by with a high level understanding (or message me with questions AFTER watching and link me which video you watched, and i can try to help)... _by _*_high level_*_ i don't mean a mastery of the subject material, but rather a limited bit useful understanding..._

Whilst Jacob was a tad rude in my opinion (no offence, Jacob), he is right that if you were to repackage this sort of information into a video or series, you'd probably get a lot more exposure, subscribers, etc. Something worth considering, if you're interested.

    I'm trying to figure out how to use this to bring an Aerith-led party out of midgar, im super curious if that alone will crash the game or if things get interesting. Cause maybe If we can get this, we'd have an in-game means of picking from any 3 party member combination, for play around the map. Might be really cool for trying unique Emerald and Ruby fights.
    if you yuffie warp a late game party that has the sector 5 key, back to the elevator or rufus fight, once you do this glitch you can indeed just pop through the door
    However, the moment you touch the bottom of the field to leave, the game really wants that leaving scene to play. Aerith softlocks into NPC mode as only cloud should be playable to talk around to everyone.
    I remembered because we yuffie-warped a late game, from save points we can PHS into any other group leader, except cloud himself, he's still in PHS lock mode, this time locked outside the party for once. Who is decided as the leader seems to be whoever the last person you pick into the party on the PHS screen.
    If you choose another as leader who is supposed to be visible on this field (Tifa, Barrett, Red, even Cid) they'll softlock into NPC mode the same way. At least, it's really cool this being like the one time you can move around with a Red party leader.
    Only if you get an invisible lead (Cait or Vincent) you don't softlock there. You get the "Cloud: are we ready to go or no" dialogue. If you proceed, you later softlock when it normally waits for Aerith's model to walk to Cloud.
    So I'm stuck here for ideas, the only ways out I see are to somehow bypass the "are we ready", or maybe i should learn wrong-warping or debug room to see if those tools can help here.

      There's a very easy way to skip the party member selection at the end of midgar, using a text skip. Check out any speedrun to see how it's done, you basically just talk to barret on the same frame that you trigger the leave sequence, then as they are talking you just leave the bottom of the screen.

    The wrong player character object and wrong name make sense. Why index which character you are controlling when the only character you should be controlling be Cloud. There are a few other minor things I can think of that could cause this type of behavior.

    Don't get me wrong, I love this game, but how is FFVII so highly regarded, having this many issues? W-item, yuffie glitch, the glitch with hiding 2 materia and so on and so forth.

    R1 + L1 + Circle at the church when you go see Aeris, its a glitch that ties into the "this IS hades" dialogue option and you can regain aeris. This is a "true" way to get Aeris back.

      That being said im 99.9% sure it was an easter egg and isn't canon.

      However after you have tifa and barret back in your party ( can't remember if it is before or after the Marlene part in aeriths house ).
      But you can see Aerith in the middle of the church ( where she is when she runs from the Turks ).

    When I played ff7 her name was Aerith,
    Why she’s been called Aeris , I’m confused

    • @michaelhenriksen7359
      @michaelhenriksen7359 Před 5 lety

      It's because of difficulty in translating. Her name was originally Earisu (and Sephiroth; Sefirosu) on japanese, and early tranlations got her named Aeris and that was first changed in later versions of the game.
      It's understandable why they changed the name, otherwise Sephiroth and Aerith wouldn't sound alike, compared to how they sound alike on japanese. (Also mythology i guess)
      I suggest you look more into that matter, as there's a lot of mistranslattion in the game.
      For example, in English (and other languages) Aerith's personaility and attitude is completely different from her original Japanese counterpart.
      In japanese she's kinda badass and streetwise actually, which makes sense, because turks have been chasing her probably her whole life.

    4-8 Productions, next time write a script before doing your video.
    "And then like basically what happens is what I saw happen is that when I was watching him play he uncovered this glitch and what the glitch is is that the glitch happens when basically you are leaving the elevator and normally when you leave the elevator what happens is that Aeris leaves the elevator and then when she left the elevator if you try to get back on then basically...."
    That's what you sound like.

      Not sure you understand the concept of a livestream.
      Also I know I fumbled over my words about 3/4ths through this video, I was thinking one thing and then realized I needed to explain it a different way. People make mistakes my man.

      @vivithegr8389 Před 5 lety +3

      this was on a live stream.
      so of course its unscripted...
      nor do i think it needs a crazy professional video with a script. this is just a fun glitch.
      I'm sure he knows exactly what he sounds like.

    • @martinperry1843
      @martinperry1843 Před 5 lety +1

      I'm aware it's a live stream but the rambling incoherent delivery was really annoying. If he'd just worked out how to describe it in advance it would have been a much better video. I know that's not how livestreams work but that's also one of the reasons some people do rehearsed/edited videos or rerecord voiceovers instead of livestreams.
      Overall though, it was entertaining. I especially liked Cloud's weird sideways-rope-climb at the end.
