damn I feel old.....still play it back to back at least 2x a month,,,,,,shame getting old...Still want Carlos to re-join to for a blow out tour @@gtaatmiami
Of all the early 2000s NYC Post Punk bands, Interpol was just so effortlessly cool, like Yeah Yeah Yeahs were cool cause they're artists, Strokes were cool cause they were like, your friends, Interpol was just...cooool
@@dekaorange3269 lmao no, carlos was even better on drugs. thats where the wild insane basslines came from, everything else after didn't come close to the insanity of his basslines on bright lights
New York’s has the best bands in America; interpol, the strokes, the rapture, yeah yeah yeahs, talking heads, television, Ramones, Blondie. I mean this is just my opinion so don’t hurt me CZcams commenters
It always has them, they’re just placed way more gracefully and quiet in the background of the album version, which was Carlos playing and it sounds beautiful. Shame they never had a good keyboard player
I'd take it as a bit of a blessing... Anything that even remotely sounds like Joy Division is good, as long as they put their own spin on it, which they certainly have. The biggest parallel to Joy Division is the way he's singing... If i remember correctly, he ended up going for that style because that was the only way he could overpower the rest of the band when they were practicing in their early days, so it stuck around. The whole band has always denied taking inspiration from Joy Division. None of them were fans of Joy Division, apart from the bassist. All i can say is, put on some headphones and listen to their debut album "Turn on the bright lights" from start to finish... Hopefully you'll understand it then.
@@prilljazzatlanta5070 i hope you enjoy it, that album is amazing, both in terms of musicianship and lyricism. Their 2nd and 3rd album were pretty good as well... Everything after that is kinda meh, mostly because their original bassist left the band.
The Joy Division comparison has never made sense to me. Their similarity to JD ends with the vocals and even at that Paul Banks just brings a much more manic and urgent energy to his performance which sounds much more emotive compared to Ian Curtis' deadpan crooning. Once you look past the surface you see that the bands aren't really that alike. Imo Interpol sonically sounds much closer to The Chameleons than anything by Joy Division. You really can't imagine songs like The New, Stella was a diver, The Specialist, Hands Away, Not Even Jail (I could keep going) coming from Joy Division.
Pretty incredible that this album is 21 years old now.
And I still play it all the time 😂

We both can drink now legally to this album

The drummer is one badass. This album... this music...what great memories back in '03-'04.
This is the song that made me fall in love with them
Ditto! So amazing live!
Same! Those first chords.
Same and nyc
Same m8!
Same
I feel like Carlos D was the best bassist of that whole NY scene
You feel damn right dude. 🖤
He definitely was!
When he wasn't cracked up on cocaine or alcohol, yes. Otherwise Nikolai Fraiture takes the cake
@@dekaorange3269 lmao no, carlos was even better on drugs. thats where the wild insane basslines came from, everything else after didn't come close to the insanity of his basslines on bright lights
Actually it was Paul that wrote the baselines I believe. I think he had Carlos join the band because he looked cool.
Such an amazing album to drive at night to.
new haven to boston....
Absolutely agreed
Back when Carlos and Paul used to straighten their hair, and back when Sam and Daniel had those funny-looking haircuts. Epic song, great memories.
I knew Carlos did bc of how he looks now but I didn’t know Paul did he’s always looked the same to me
Daniels is like a 50s cut, sams is like the full fringe or curtains which was common in nu metal and emo back then
Is sam's haircut really funny looking? I think he looks pretty cool / fitting with the rest of the bands style
My god how I love interpol
I remember seeing this when it aired and just being mesmerized. Still am bc there’s been no band as great and unique as Interpol.
Nothing will ever come close to Interpol
Carlos D had that bass power stance down
Stolen from Peter Hook
This is the best live performance of this song so far. Makes me remember from the good old days.
now that is drum and bass!
Music from the good old days
If Carlos D played that bass any lower he'd be playing on the floor
The guy playing the keyboard looks like the Penguin from Gotham.
Tru tru xD
Holy shit.
😂😂😂
best album of all time
should have 100X more views
They seem so nervous talking to Leno
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE
Oswald Cobblepot on the keys everyone!
Que guaaaapo paul
Sam young and Kickin it
And he's the older of the band lol
The one person who disliked is on crack
Carlos Dengler it's a fuckin genius
Thanks for the upload! Hadn't seen this one.
I like the added rift in the outro🔥
Love them!!!
the amount of times he said elevator
The interview at the end is so endearing and funny! They were so nervous
one of a kind.
Da band
Fucking great band
2:09 is that the goth kid from Wedding Crashers?
from 3:00 for 20 secs i am in heaven
Tobey maguire on drums
Daniel, tell us what room he was in again
i was waiting the elevator, on elevator, when he says elevator
🥶yes
wow
They are all coked out of their mind. Look how fast the drummer walked over there and his odd comment. Paul blatantly wiping his nose on his sleeve
Okay me and my friend consider ourselves pretty literate to music!!! how in the fuck!!! did I miss this band a decade-and-a-half ago.... 😮😵🤬
Elevator 👍
She packs it in😢

The bass is criminally low in the mix 😢
The sound of a leather jacket.
I prefer this song without keyboards
It always has them, they’re just placed way more gracefully and quiet in the background of the album version, which was Carlos playing and it sounds beautiful. Shame they never had a good keyboard player
drummer kinda looking like bully maguire
Never got into them as i saw them as a joy division rehash but id love for someone to give me a different perspective. I actually want to like them.
