@@Kats072307 exactly, Daniel is the only one who sorta got along with Carlos on a personal level, Paul thought the pretentiousness was a bit but once he realized that was his true personality, Paul didn't like him anymore, and Sam probably never liked him from the start, everyone only tolerated his presence at best, because of his musical genius and bass prowess
@@miscellaneousmedia3753 Absolutely nothing you said has any merit of truth, Carlos was immensely kind and smart. He left cause he didn't gain any gratification from music any longer.
The auto tune adds something I think, it scratches my brain in a really good way ^^ I love Paul's vocals no matter what but the way it sounds funky at "We could cap the old lines" makes my heart skip a beat so I'll take it and save it for ever
Whenever I hear this song, shivers spread to every corner of my body. My chest feels heavy with empathy. I connect with Interpol when I listen to this song... Fucken beautiful, mates! And to anyone who thinks autotune is used here.... smh you obviously have no concept of what autotune is. And you obviously can't hear a great vocal performance when you hear it...
...Seriously? It is blindingly obvious that Paul's voice is autotuned. Besides, AOL sessions always uses autotune - check out The Killers' session, it's just the same.
It is so obvious they used auto tune. 1. Paul said so himself that he HAS to yell or else you could not hear him (it does not look like he's yelling). 2. Paul's voice is deeper than that, putting that much strain on his voice woould cause him to sweat just like he does in just about every other live performance. He was obviously auto tuned but that doesn't mean that I couldnt hear his real voice.
@@JackMorgan06 Well... i listened to it... its not like "nearly unlistenable" tbh, its pretty obvious, but hey, it doesnt messes as much with the song as someone would say... I think i deserve a "be able to hear things" award hahahahaha
@LennyValentino9191 I think the best performance for Obstacle 1 live is the one at Pepsi Smash... but now that I think I don't know if I can call it "live"...
@uniiverselove I'm pretty sure that a cameraman has a sense of detecting passion - paul, dan and sam have passion, and beloved carlos did not at the time. So that makes sense bcause carlos isn't a member of interpol anymore.
@nnprecious13 I'm not trying to start drama (i was a little intoxicated when I made that previous comment so excuse me if that was rude) I'm just saying in multiple performances I've seen he has a tendency to miss the mark a few times. Example: From :56 to the next chorus Sam is right on the mark but Daniel rushes. It sounds like he's not fully engaged with the rest of the performers at all times.
Paul seems real irritated about that live pitch correction. That's an AOL Sessions decision, I'm sure the band had little to do with their choice to auto-tune the vocals. That nasally register of Paul's would sound a little better without it though.
@nicknoia were u being ironic, i prefer his voice circa the totbl or antics days, its gotten relative higher sense...a preferred the strident, brutal, almost shouting of back then...now he's singing more, its a more effaced vocal...check out the kimmel performance of ob1 and tell me that's not way better
@markkklol OK badboy. But anyways, it doesn't sound "terrible" right? It's nothing BIG that everyone can notice. Look at all these comments focused on Paul, nothing else about Dan being off tune. There was one thing that caught my attention though, Paul's voice. Why did it have to be auto-tuned?
chicken wing, chicken wing, chicken wing, cheese bread
I can't un-hear it... NOOOOO!... hahah
HAHAHA now, I can't un-hear it too!!
Im hungry now 😂
hahsh
😂
Carlos is greatly missed.
from all fans yes, but
not from band members

love the bass in this song
i picked up the bass because this song. its less magical when you learn it so if you pick up a bass don’t learn obstacle 1z
@@blunderless not true at all. makes it even more fun and epic. makes you want to pick up a bass and play along
@@bearzdlc2172 playing with the song is fun but i still stand by what i said
@@blunderless I disagree entirely. I've learned most of the bass lines from the first 4 albums and Obstacle 1 is by far the most fun one to play.

I agree I didn’t even know there was any autotune I thought Paul was just playing around with the way he sings lol
dat Autotune
It's unnecessary for Paul's voice.
AOL fixed up Paul's vocals in post editing, the band never uses it themselves...
It's vocoder rather than post production
Kind of autotune
Yeah, the original song uses a lot of quartertones so it wouldn't make sense for the band to use it themselves
Best bass line ever written
I consider you haven't listened to the track called The New. Absolutely masterpiece baseline by Carlos.
@@FrengerousHq yeah that intro bass is so warm and melancholy, beautiful track
1:55 Wow, that really catches your attention.
Is Paul wearing a scarf because he goes stabbing himself in the neck?
Maybe hahaha
that should have more likes. that's funny as fuck!
Awesome comment man jajajaja
Well done :p
he has a near robotic effect on his voice. like its T-Paul
I BURSTED OUT LAUGHING AHAHHAAH

I love Sam he's amazing!
I love this version.
just...just amazing
Paul's voice is heaven
the best live obstacle forever
he never sings like this, he sounds perfect and I love it.
they put Auto tune him
No he always sings like this, but they’ve put near unlistenable levels of auto tune on it

Love it
This is fucking sweet. I've been listening to this and Evil for a week now.
Unbelievable song
Here, Paul's voice has 100/100
and the autotune??
Wow!!!! Wow!!!! Wow!!!!👏👏👏👏
Paul with glasses =
great sound
the best perfonmance ever =)
musica perfeita
oh yeah. the great carlos d.!!!
great recording!
His voice sound like a GOD!!!
Ahh man.. FUCKING GREAT! His voice sounds amazing!
No it’s just badly auto tuned
His voice sounds better without it, it ruins the song with all this pitch correction
❤
0:32 how could you say this isn't autotuned? :-/
You can hear the crackaly it just sucks he sounds amazing without it. Just makes him sound like a robot
notice how when he sings falsettos he turns to the keyboard guy and smiles lolz!
wow
The song hear very good
it is carefully autotuned. and it sounds fucking amazing because of it so i'm not complaining.
Actually I prefer Paul's raw loud voice over auto tune, honestly it doesn't work. He kinda sounds like a chipmunk.
Best fucking band!
En menos de un mes estarán tocando en Chile y yo estaré ahí :B
that autotune ..he seems upset
This song grows on u
It's only slightly autotuned. And personally I find it sounds so fucking good.
Still sounds epic in 2022
nice:D
1:24 carlos dengler i want your fingers, dude.
2021 Quien?
Why does AOL always auto-tune their voices?
Ohhhh! Paul Banks...
@lazyitis75 definitely. people seldom pay attention to the bassists, even as great as Carlos
The Joy Division of today..

chicken wing, chicken wing, chicken wing
@paranoidkid17 I find it hard to tell it, how can I feel it is or not?
I kindda miss Carlos
thats a nice scarf pauls got there cold in there??/ brilliant song
Yup. He really needs to master his timing.
I think the first auto tune is at the word "time" 0:32 , I know this song like the back of my hand.
this video has a 3d surround sound.

Interpol is touring with U2
is this in a different key i don't know musica
@OriginalSHare i think the sessions make the singers use it...or maybe it was paul's decision...who knows.
@nicknoia most definitely
New bassline? PM me a link dude
Y no bass in the mix?
@TheSoccerfanatic07 he was mate. Actually.... he just left the band afterwards..

paul sounds like hatsune miku lmao
bruh
Carlos ;(
@nicknoia 1:58, right
ROFL @ "she puts the weights"
and that people, is how you play drums
Pauls Clark Kent phase
Jodie Foster is that you?
at first it seems like Paul Banks uses autotune.. but nope, he just has the voice of 100 angels
There is autotune, I don't think the band had any choice anyway. It's the same for all aol sessions unfortunately.
paul f. tompkins on bass...
autotone? not saying this to bag on them. i love interpol.
what a tetric bassplayer but great!!!
offtuned guitar WutFace great performance still
seems that's because of autotuned voice
