You must be gutted at the current situation regarding the steam train. Diesel trains won't cut it, and tourism will suffer. Who wants to go out to glenfinnan to see a diesel locomotive.

I love this and everything about it. It was Harry Potter (and Polar Express lol) that ignited my love for trains, specifically steam locomotives and ones where you get your own compartment in the train car. I can imagine getting your private compartment is more pricey than the ones that aren't. I hope I get to visit and ride this train, and visit the stops and surrounding areas one day. I don't know how much longer they'll allow steam locomotives to keep running so hopefully soon!

    • @peterwilliamallen1063

It is exactly what you have said that is spoiling heritage railway's in the UK, Harry Potter trains do not exist and the Polar Express is a fantasy both ruining the out look of heritage trains and what people expect on these trains and do not get, a compartment on a heritage train in the UK is no more pricey than an open coach. This train has been running for years as one of the only main line operated steam trains in the UK for tourism and has nothing to do with Harry Potter.

Speaking of trains generally, if you have not done so, it is such a treat. At any age, any physical condition, you can't be it, really you can't. If you are the one always driving the car--you miss pretty well all of the scenery; with these big, bay windows you can sit there, really seeing all there is to see, a cup of chowder maybe in your hands. It really is wonderful. Sleepy? Just doze off. A little peckish--they have a buffet car or sometimes full service meals. Cramped? Get up and walk--no one is stopping you. This young woman? Probably her biggest problem would be the boys not leaving her alone. Rail travel is better than ANY form of travel I know. Some I know would argue horseback and if that is your thing, great. But most people--you can't beat rail travel, you just can't.

  • @MasterMoyle

Iv wanted to travel on "The Jacobite" for years but the issue is getting upto Fort William from where I live which is in Southport & the only really viable option is travel on the overnight sleeper which goes directly from Preston to Fort William. The other issue is it's extremely expensive to travel on the sleeper and if I were to go on normal services id need to go to Glasgow Central then make my way to Queen Street where I could then get a service to Fort William. It wouldn't be an out and back trip either as it's way too far to do it in one day and then get back home in the same day. It's also too far to drive as it would be around 200-300 miles driving in total going in one direction.
West Coast Railways I have however travelled with on a number of railtours including their popular "Scarborough Spa Express" trains and if they are run next year "The Pendle Dalesman".

As a British Rail fan what annoys me is that people always associate certain things with " Harry Potter", Christ it was a fairy tale film, it may have been made using this line and viaduct, but as I said this is a tourist train on a scheduled service in Scotland and both the Engine and train are not in any way associated with Harry Potter and the Hogwarts Express as mich as you would expect Julie Andrews to come dancing over the Alps.

@@DWTravel So he may be, but fickle Americans then think we live in a land of thatched cottages with straw in our mouths, even the American Christmas films when including an English part think we all talk with a plumb in our mouths. but this train is not the Harry Potter train, for a start the Harry Potter Engine is of a Great Western Design, this one looks nothing like t and is of LMS design and it is a tourist train that runs all summer called the Jacobite Express, when travel companies do this it confuses foreign tourists.

Lol what are you talking about. How it's not associated with Harry Potter when it's the same route as in the films? And the company running The Jacobite provided Warner Bros with the train used as the Hogwarts Express in all movies and allowed them to use the same route. Although it's not the same locomotive, the train it's associated with Harry Potter

@@jorgealvarez9090 Exactly, I don’t know why some people get so worked up and captious about these details. Olton Hall (the “Hogwarts Express” in the firms) used the same route as the Jacobite for the films, is owned by the WCR who runs the Jacobite (who is leasing Olton Hall to Warner Brothers), and the cars used for the movies were the same used by the Jacobite line. 😑 These people need to reevaluate their lives.

That's because it's not actually anything to do with Harry Potter and has never been marketed as such. It's only certain people who have decided for themselves that it is.
