  • In this video I attempt to replace a CV joint on a drive axle but I cannot get it to come off so I end up replacing the axle.

I just changed my axle on my 2008 also there is no need to remove that many things. I just removed the axle bolt and the whole thing came out. I always pray and give God the glory!

Hi Bryan, another great video! I just replaced the cv joint on my vw group car. An easy way to remove the joint is to use the old axle bolt, thread it on the the driveshaft and tighten. the joint will pop off👍🏻

I thought about trying that about a week later. I am used to the old style CV joints that don't have a bolt through them but are threaded and have a nut.

      Can you elaborate on this?

Great video. Thanks for sharing this. This will help me a lot. Question, what were the torque specs for the inner transmission bolts?

I just Googled it and averaged the answers. It was somewhere between 30-40 lb.-ft. I honestly think if they are all even you will be fine.

Hi Bryan, Thank's for the video! Having never done this job, I didn't understand one thing that you said. Near the end of the video you torqued the axle bolt & then had to do another 180 degree's. I didn't understand this? Have a great day!! Illinois

A lot of newer fasteners in critical applications are "torque to yield" where the bolt is actually stretched to obtain the designed clamping load. I don't remember the exact reason but it apparently is more accurate that way. So the specs for this were 148 lb-ft and then 180 degrees. I chose to do two 90 degree turns.

I have an 07 GTI I'm doing this to this week. Funny enough I also have oil everywhere in the same spot as you. What did you end up finding out about the Oil leak?

I never got to the oil leak but some comments suggested that the vacuum pump is the source of the oil leak. It is right above the coolant flange.
