Most people on this segment listen to the song 2-3 times, make notes, they use like 2-3 attempts. Chad did this on his first listen, 30 seconds in. Insane!
Because Chad doesn't care. The mark of a real rockstar. The other drummers could do the same if they wanted to but they are drummers who care a lot about accuracy and precision. That's why they take their time. They treated their Drumeo appearance as if they were really in a session where they MUST to do it correctly.
Exactly!!! I went to find more to watch and was so bummed they listened to it and took notes!
Freestyle drums. FUCKING SICK
I think it has a lot to do that the other guys are more session players seeking free marketing. Chad doesn’t give a chat hence him saying he doesnt wanna do a second pass
lol 30 Seconds to Chad
It’s crazy how accurate his improvisation was 😮 then he just shows off even more at the end 😂
The best part of his whole video is watching his face. You can absolutely see him figuring out the music as it's playing and improvising with the existing music cues. He's fucking amazing.
He was channeling Will Ferrell when he said I feal violated. 🤣
The other drummers usually write down a draft to how they approach. Do multiple tries of song. And Chad Smith said "HOLD MY BEER" (don't quote me) lol
50th time I've watched reactions to this video, and it still is AMAZING!!
You're lucky you waited till the end to say *_Who's Flea?_* - cause that's when I DIPPED 😂
It’s the Cali swagger that makes this so impressive. Most great drummers, especially ones that jam often, could improvise a good drum line for this song.
But very few could do it with such confidence, style, and commitment.
“Who’s Flea?” Ouch
really hurts coming from a drummer ....
That made me laugh too!
Every other drummer on this channel listens to the entire song all the way through first and makes notes, then they go at it.. this man heard 30 seconds and just ripped it
The song is very simplistic in its structure. But you need to be an absolute master to get it on the first go, anyway. I think he's a bit late on a few bits, but when they repeat again he gets all of them.
It's just magical.
@Arrynek01 he is still in the pocket for those fills, but it's towards the end of the proper time. It's there and as your brain takes it all in you hear it as "right," but because he's doing it on the fly it's just a microsecond behind.
With another pass it would be 100% deep in the pocket.
Chad has been playing drums for 55 years. Started when he was 7 and he's 62. I shouldn't be surprised at all that he could do this. However, the first time I saw this video, my mind was BLOWN! Absolutely phenomenal.
Great reaction. Earned a new sub. I look forward to more from you.
I'm not a drummer but one thing you mentionned that I noticed too is his fluidity of movement.
It looks pretty effortless for him. It's like his body is acting on it's own.
I think he might have unlocked ultra instinct.
Chad Smith is one of the greatest in the pocket, smooth, listening drummers of all time. The guy could literally play with ANY band and make them better
I love the confidence he has to just go for it after listening to like 10 seconds of the song. What a fuckin' legend. Makes sense that he's been the drummer for RHCP for forever.
How can people not know Will Ferrell from yellow mild chilli peppers is mind-blowing
Lmao
Also I love how smooth he is when his drum stick breaks and he just grabs another one without missing a beat, literally lol.
I see people in the comments saying it isn't that impressive.
This improv is insane and i love it!
I get CHILLS EVERY TIME I hear this! PERFECTION! 😏🥁❤️🔥🥁❤️🔥🥁❤️🔥
He’s so good at adapting on the fly, you can see him set up every transition by the way he creates spacing for drum fills.
I saw this originally on TikTok, then came and found the original Drumeo. Now every time I see one of these reaction videos, I watch it. It’s so cool to see someone hear this for the 1st time, and Chad is just SO F$@KING AMAZING… you can see the sheer joy on his face when he plays. It’s so fun to watch again and again.
2:50 "It would be so weird to hear it without drums." Yeah it's just like music always is for him. He's the drummer and plays to music without drums. It's a deeper thing when you think about it that way. He almost always plays to music without drums.
Chad smith is a god of drums
He literally listend to the song 30seconds and play it spot on
This female pop drummer named Domino did a pretty good interpretation of the Slipknot song Before I Forget. Same channel , Drumeo. 66Samus (another drum youtuber) has tested various electronic kits. Yeah, Chad Smith is amazing. I LOVE the Red Hot Chili Peppers Live, they jam live together a lot, I often end up loving their live versions of the song more than the studio track. Chad Smith really compliments all of them Anthony, Flea, Frusciante
Another FYI, there are alot of people who don't realize that Jared Leto the actor is also the lead singer for thirty seconds to Mars. I think Jared likes it that way. I kissed Jared in 2018. Best ten seconds of my life 😂
Flea is one of the most famous rock bassists of all time. He plays with Chad in the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He is a character.
His book is fuckin' gnarly as well. My mom read it a few years ago and I'm just now starting it.
Did he cameo in Son in Law as the tattoo artist?
@@txaussie1983 He cameoed in Back to the Future Part II and III.
Anthony Kiedis cameoed in Point Break.
Flea is a legend. So funny too.
I’ve seen many other reactions to this and it amazes me that nobody knows Jared has been an actor for 30+ years. Even winning an Oscar!
I have known he was an actor for thirty years but had no clue he was this good until a few weeks ago...lol.
I love your reaction to when Chad breaks his drum stick.
Man said "Who's FLEA?" 🧐
It's his first time ever even HEARING it, and he just jumped in 30 seconds in lol it's insane
It took him 30 seconds to go to Mars
The amazing part isnt it being his first time playing the song.....
It that it's his first time even hearing the song, and THEN its he starts playing right at the beginning of his first listen of the song.
I could easily name 100 tracks you have never heard even exist.
WHO'S FLEA??? Oh wow I never heard anyone say that before
There is loads of drumless tracks available from made to practice tracks that are just random tracks fitting a genre to actual famous songs with the drum part taken out. A lot of which are free, great way to practice and so much fun
Jared has balanced the band and acting for a long time 😊
And being a literal cult leader and all-around weirdo
Jordan Catalano
@@jameson5508 After Googling, not quite a literal cult leader, but close.
I was literally watching this on FB when your noti popped up! Massive drums fan too. Hopefully I can get my own set too one day and learn to play.
Get that set and jam man!
"Yo Girthy Gang"
**Instant sub** hahaha
Drumeo actually partnered with a company and sells an electronic drum kit. If you're interested where to start, that's a great started kit.
*starter* kit.
You should check out Larnell Lewis, a jazz fusion drummer, doing Enter Sandman. Never heard it before. He listened through the first time and honestly watching the “active listening” and how he is able to start anticipating what comes next is the best part.
He plays it and although in the beginning he is a little tight, he then starts having fun and it is magical. This is also the same dude who got a call to join a band and learned the entire album on the plane ride to go record with them (Snarky Puppy).
Or watch Michael Jackson’s drummer he used for all his live shows from 83 to his death, Jonathan Moffett play Thriller, Billie Jean, basically anything.
They also had Nick Collins (Phil Collins son) come in and do it also. He’s been playing live since Phil can’t anymore due to health problems.
Honestly can’t go wrong w/any of them.
Larnell is a technical genius
Chad is a feeling genius
@@CptVein 💯 agreed.
Did he really just say “Who’s Flea?”… 😂😂 That statement should disqualify him from ever doing another reaction video…😂😂
Chad has a timeless SkateBoard Bro look.
Alesis makes solid e kits. Also Drumeo has a ton of content exactly like this, and similar but different. Drumeo offers hundreds of drumless tracks to major hit songs.
You ever see someone freestyle rap on a drum kit without words? Now you have.
Flea is tha bassist of RHCP bro
I have both E and acoustic. E-kits aren't silent. The base pedal still thumps. If sound/noise isn't an issue I still say start with an E-kit. You get the feel pretty much. Especially with the right heads. plus you get learning tools, a multitude of drum kits, and expansion. With earphones, you can play almost quiet and still sound great. That said, there's nothing like the feel of an acoustic. you tune it so it sounds the way you want it to sound. My eKit cost twice as much as my regular kit.
Send1t back with another banger reaction. Been here since the beginning bro!
I'm with you on the sound of this cover. The 30 Seconds to Mars recording is very treble-y and thin, which works for the song and emo vibe. Reminds me of the whole And Justice for All album.
Electric kits are awesome and cheap these days. It's a good time to be a musician.
love the thing he does at @4:21 with the Tom and the Snare. The real song part is all snare and it while it does hit hard and fast going into the chorus, it doesn't have the build up to the chorus that Chad made. And for this song I think it's more fitting.
Agree. Good observation.
Man. Will Farrell can play drums.
the lamest joke on the internet.
Active listening at it's finest.
Chad Smith is Amazing Drumming and Personality wise. I love watching peoples reactions to this Video.
I had no idea Leto sang it, either.
Lol, cool reaction, but when you asked "who's Flea?" I literally told you to gfys. Out loud 😂
And they have MANY more!😉😊✌️🫶🔥🎶💯
That was fun. Thanks
Love This Guy Man 😂😂❤
Flea is the bassist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, a very distinctive sound to his bass playing. I kind of put him and Geddy Lee from Rush in similar company in terms of the complexity they bring to bass guitar, generally a simpler instrument in most bands (bassists, don’t get mad at me, I know what you do is not “simple,” you know what I mean with those two examples). He and Chad are one of the best rhythm sections in rock. You might have seen Flea in a few movies, he plays Needles in the Back to the Future sequels and also appears in The Big Lebowski as one of the trio of nihilists.
At 5:14, who started to search WHERE ARE THE WINDOW and 3 seconds later figure this was just a sound alert with a beautiful music? hahahaha So the intro was familiar, right ? I CATCHED YOU
Fully maxed out empathy skill tree for sure. He understands what artists are going for so well, across lots of genres
Flea's the bassist from Red Hot Chili Peppers, and also an actor
Actor singer. He sang on the “My So Called Life”. Great series from the 90s. Only a couple of seasons.
For a second there, I thought I opened the wrong tab.
Every youtube commenter ever: "I'm gonna shut up now"..
2 seconds later... "blah blah blah"
Ya it’s crazy how a react channel actually reacts to it
Ive never touched a drum set in my life, and this video made me want to get drums too 😂
I saw him and flea jam at namm years ago. Right in front of me. Incredible
He just turned 62 last month.
I don't know if you've gotten that electric kit, but I hope you either have or know what you'd like!
As a guitarist who was really into RHCP during the nascent learning phase and loved their tendency to improvise and jam during their live sets, CZcams having guitar backing tracks for a bunch of songs has been a godsend for both playing along and fudging around with. Drum backing tracks/drumless tracks definitely exist and I think you'll have a blast playing over them
I have an electronic kit and it’s really fun. It’s great being able to mix and match sounds and add in cowbells or chimes or dozens of other sounds. Mine is an older Roland set. It has been very reliable. I play pretty hard and have only had one cymbal issue, warranty, and have replaced my snare head a couple of times. I would definitely recommend their kits. Make sure you get something with mesh heads not rubber. The mesh heads have rebound like a regular drum head.
Any musician knows where the drops are gonna come and all that but Chad does is to a new level, I think Chad could even be on polyphia level
Great reaction
Flea is the bassist in Red Hot Chili Peppers where Chad Smith is the drummer
I encourage you to drum again man! It sounds like you have a passion for it. Don't let it slip away :)
@5:14 that music kicked in at the right time!
Chad is THE real deal
He's 62. And the only RHCP to remain sober for 40 years while the whole band went to shit. Midwestern boy crediting his success to public school music program. Rhcp creates their music by improvising on the fly then turning it all into a structured song. They improvise every intro jam at every one of their shows too. If you know music you see him letting the song breathe and his power to acutely listen to each measure so he can ebb and flow when necessary. 6:31 He anticipates a drum fil, throws one off and 4 seconds later has already revised it and does a 2nd broader drum fill, and then again a few seconds later. Like at one crescendo he was slamming it then the vocals dropped off and got soft and he quickly adjusted. It's "better" because it's live not studio produced.
And then he asks : "Who is 'Flea" ? " 😉
Unmatched musicality
Very nice.. Great job! 👏👏👏👏🤘
Hell yeah! Chad smith is on another level.
Also, I’m new to your channel, look up El Estepario Siberiano. He’s like a beast
Oh yeah! 30s to mars still tours and makes new music all the while Jared does acting too
many more drumeo
Dude said "who's flea?" Lol
Lol I know, it’s bad
@@Send1tReacts lol I just left another comment because I didn't realize it was you brother
"Who's flea" he says lolol 12:09
wait a second... you don't know who Flea is brother? ohh man
FYI Jared and Shannon both saw this. It's on Instagram.
Chad Smith has spent many, many years in improvisational settings outside of the Chili Peppers (not counting their unrehearsed improvs they do live). His ear is so locked in with everything that is going on in the moment and thus he reacts extremely quickly. Improvisation is an amazing skill to hone.
This video, and the Sugarfoot playing Numb video, are easily my favorite videos from Drumeo, highly recommend that other video (if you haven't reacted to it already)
Ive always wanted to play drums, its time to get a kit! Lets do it homie
Drumeo is one of the biggest and best online learning communities/platforms for the drums. I recommend it if you are thinking about picking up the drums again. As for e-kits, I am a fan of Roland.
Algorithm Pimpin'
Chads been jamming with Flea and Frusciante for a long time. Just another day in the office for him lol
was waitin for this man. Great reaction love your videos keep up the great content and lit streams
Flea is the bassist from The Red Hot Chillipeppers
have you ever seen larnell lewis hears a song once and plays it perfectly? its also on the drumeo channel and probably even crazier than this one
great video
Gotta check out their enter the sandman one with the jazz dude it’s fire
Will Ferrell is the biggest kid ever
damn "who's Flea" made me feel old, i am, but god damn man
I love Chad Smith! You should check out Mike Portnoy on Drumeo see “how fast can you learn this song”! And HE REALLY DOES IT… but it takes him a while…. ITS A REALLY HARD SONG!! The idea is great!! Be well and God bless… from Texas!!
Who'd flee? Lol chad is the drummer and flee us the bass player bro!
Flea* not Flee 😂
@Amalekites haha so true! Auto correct is indeed a thing and I didn't check 🙃
@@sdcmmog That's why I never use it. It's crap! 😄
Flea is the bassist for Red Hot Chille Peppers.... Also brilliant!
Chili*
Jared Leto was an actor before he became a band I believe. Flea is the bass player from the Red Hot Chili Peppers
Drumeo has other cool ones but Chad is the only person to start playing while hearing it for the first time (no active listening or writing)
