- In this video I am going to show you how to continue the 6000 year cultivation on the first recorded medicinal plant.. Aloe Vera! I will show you how to propagate it, grow it, harvest it and use it.

My dad tossed an aloe cutting on the ground when I was a kid, he meant to plant it but never got around to it....long story short it rooted itself without any TLC and became bigger than me within about 5 years. We are in Souhern California.
My Aunt was very sick and she had to sell her house which I grew up in, she told me to get whatever I wanted from her house ...it was a full house...the only things I wanted were some of the aloe vera plants so I picked 3 of them and brought them home..my aunt passed away shortly after that and the plants didn’t survive winter....so that was very upsetting to me since they represented my Aunt .....so didn’t have the heart to throw them away, I left them in the pots and one I had planted in the ground....well a year later they pepped themselves up and are thriving I need to put them in a bigger pot they outgrew the current pot. Every time
I see them I think of my Tia (Auntie).

As mentioned before by others, they grew very easy. On our fruit farm here in South Africa I just put the cuttings in the soil and they always grow, but then again this is where they from!. The reason we like them around is because the bees love them in the winter when there is not a lot of other nectar sources around.
Great video. Supposedly the blended gel can be frozen in ice cube trays and then store the cubes in freezer bag or tight sealed container. Then they are easy to grab when you need aloe. Like I said , I have not tried this, but I am going to soon
I would consider that a split not a cutting . I think the misunderstanding comes in when people think leaf cuttings can be rooted .
My cuttings Never took...
However... I replanted 7 Large... Aloe Vera Barbadensis Miller-Stockton's (edible variety), they each had a thick, long, curvy root... I cut this off like you did and replanted each big plant, 3-4 months they rerooted.. then I recut the Cut roots in half and planted Them..Now each is making 6+ pups off each root... soo excited..
If you are rubbing the gel on your face/body it would be easier to handle if you keep the green skin on one side.

Aloe Vera is a very resilient plant. You can grow Aloe Vera from cutting I've done that several times. Thank you for sharing.
That is not Aloe Vera. That is Aloe Arborescens. Yes you can grow it from cuttings. Aloe Vera too can be grown from cuttings - but not leaf cuttings. Aloe Arborescens has more nutritional value than Aloe Vera and has anti-cancer properties. It is widely grown in Italy. I always wanted to have that plant. It's juice is sold more expensive than Aloe Vera.
Which is better, aloe vera or aloe chinensis? I want to have only one type, which would you recommend?
Those are stalks of aloe, not leaves. I thought you were going to try growing by leaf.

Thats the whole aloe plant you are replanting. Its just trimmed. Can you try an plant from a real cutting of just the leave.
I think you can cut pieces and keep them In your fridge to use medicinally.
that wasnt what i would consider a cutting. it had root stock on it. so i guess we STILL dont know if its truly possible! lol

You might have got these comments because people confused your cuttings, which have a bit of a stem, with leaf cuttings (like these you would take off an echerichia). Btw, I don't know how you would propagate aloe arborescens otherwise than from stem cuttings. I don't think it produces pups growing out of the ground like aloe barbadensis does.

There are about 400 species of Aloe and the one you are showing is not an Aloe vera or barbadensis which is the most beneficial. The one you are showing is the Aloe arborescens or Candelabra Aloe which is the one growing in your garden. Aloe vera is only one species and that is the barbadensis. Your photo is showing an Aloe arborescens growing in Cape Town South Africa. (I am a botanist)
Also I am sorry but your statement that Aloe vera grows best in brigh light shade is not true. To truely thrive Aloe vera barbadensis needs 6 to eight hours of direct sunlight. This also increases the beneficial medical and nutritional ingredients that make the Aloe vera plant so valuable.

I agree that aloe vera plants thrives well under direct sunlight. However during certain times of the year, when the heat is intense, the aloe leaves will burnt. This can’t be help if the plant is grown in the ground. If grown indoors or in shady areas, the quality of the aloe vera plants will be affected. Such as the color of the leaves become light green. Check out the CZcams channel The Aloe Vera Garden. It has tons of videos on cultivating aloe vera in containers and everything related to growing problems. There’s also videos on using the gel to make smoothies, fruit drinks, face masks and soaps.
Could you tell me if aloe vera barbadensis is better than aloe vera chinensis? I want one type, but im confused which to settle on?

I think what you may have had is a terminology problem. What you planted in this video would be termed an Aloe “pup” because it is an offshoot of the original plant. A “cutting” of an Aloe plant would be a leaf cutting. A leaf that is actually cut from an Aloe plant. There is an a bit of controversy about leaf cuttings from the Aloe plant. There are videos of people trying to root a leaf cut from an Aloe plant. Some say that they can do it while others say that it is impossible. I saw one video by a professional grower of Aloe who said that it is indeed impossible.
The pup is always a good candidate for propagation of the Aloe Vera plant and most other Aloes.
You can use bananas to help with the growth.

Was the cutting lying flat on the ground? I stuck an aloe cutting in the ground 2 months ago and as far as I can tell nothing has happened yet, it's just now turning brown tho. I'm scared to dig it up and check

I watched another video from a professional gardener about the cuttings and she showed how she cut up and leave it with at least 20 parts and what happens is they rot you cannot grow aloe plants from cuttings because the root will rot and she showed exactly what happened to The Roots in the same pot it was not fixed it was actual so you can't grow aloe leaves from cuttings like cutting up the leaves you can grow them from the pups that they produce

Would Aloe benefit from silica supplement or beneficial bacteria? I feel like the answer is automatically yes, it doesn't burn, if it isn't sucked up by the roots it's just flushed by water...

Part sun , part shade, thanks for saying that. I am in zone 8 TEXAS, and aloes gets UGLY stress when I put on south of house with full sun.
I've seen this everywhere as well. I though it was strange. You just need part of the leaf node left attached. I always have better luck with water propagation. Vs dirt.
Do they have no seeds? I wanted to grow some and I do not have any plants to cut from.

I’m waiting for my aloe to flower. It has a southern exposure and put up shoots after we had a freeze. I tried to protect it with leaves and a cardboard box each night below 0C, but now it has stalks about two feet high. The buds at the bottom look like they will flower soon. The main plant really died back last year when I didn’t help it on the cold nights, but it did so amazing afterwards.

@@mariap.894 It flowered, but no seed pods developed. I never tried to pollinate it by hand. It would have needed to flower later in order for insects to be around to pollinate. Anyways, I have a whole cluster of plants now, so I need to figure out how to safely split them to give some away. I'm around the capital of Texas and it was the first thing to flower this
year. Before cilantro by months.

If you hadn't cut off all that stem material you would have gotten way more root more quickly and a far bigger plant than you will get now!
So unless you don't have much space it doesn't make sense to cut your cuttings that short.

Aloe Vera only have yellow flowers. Other aloes have red or orange.

I'm not a professional grower don't sick and tired people telling you that you can't grow this and you can't grow that I grew everything my sister especially you can't grow corn in a pot you can't grow cabbage in a pot you can't grow watermelon in the pot I'll prove her wrong
