Hugh jackman actually wanted to be in better shape, but they didn’t give him enough time. He still looks like a badass though
i the no it lends more to superhero power toughness
I think it's great. He looks like an old tired boxer who's done with this shit but needs the money.
Before 2005 the superheroes movies doesnt requiere a bodybuilder body type. After that year it was a must and even in general action movies (for a few good reasons).
Actually THEY gave him more time. In a interview he stated that he thought he could get in shape in 2 weeks. When they saw in what shape he was in they ended up postponing the shirtless scenes till the end.
Lol, yeah more "broccoli, chicken " time
This casting ended up being one of the biggest game changing casings of the century.
We can thank Russell Crowe for getting Hugh Jackman as The Wolverine, it was Russell who recommended him for the role 😁
I love a good casing.
It’s crazy how in the original superhero movies they almost always nail it. Not Eric Bana Hulk though…

lmao such an iconic scene
His balls were probably the only thing that wasn't protected with adamantium. It does remind me of a limerick:
There was once a young man of Cass
Whose bollocks were made of brass
Together they'd pound
With a clangorous sound
And sparks would shoot from his ass.
and then the first thing he does is kick him in the balls
Anyone would take that personally

I honestly could never think of a better introduction to Wolverine in my wildest dreams.
What was it Wolverine 50 where he was punched in a bar fight and his eye popped out? That's how you do it, rated R for gore.
Seeing this for the first time in theatres, was spine tingling. Was a huge fan of the 90’s cartoon, so seeing him in live action was beyond epic.

Cant believe 24 years gone but still theres one man Hugh jackman play wolverine. Such a iconic personality he is. No other actor could carry the charm of this man as a wolverine
well, that and he's still built like a fucking truck XD even in the old man logan movie
Yeah, and he doesn't match Wolverine from the comics, who is all of 5'3", but he was just so enjoyable that it's rather hard to care.
Hugh Jackman is like Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn. He's born to play Wolverine.
I was privileged to watch this in the cinema back in 2000
Same!!! What art in the early ‘00’s! And to think we didn’t big explosions or any complex plot. We just had the great Hugh Jackman and a solid cast with the right formula and right script and voila! Beginning of what would become Marvel and it’s empire 😎😊

Hugh Jackman is the Wolverine, and you can't have another one.
Just like with RDJ/ Ironman
Absolute truth. Hugh Jackman is the best live-action Wolverine, and Steve Blum is the best voice of Wolverine.
To this day I still think Wolverine was modeled after Clint Eastwood.
I hope they never try
I'm still waiting for a reboot of "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins." I think Scott Adkins would be a good Remo, and Donnie Yen as Chiun.
Something I never actually realized before, is the fact that his fists are pretty much indestructible. He's swinging those adamantium fists, with the force and might, of like, at least two or three Mike Tysons. Considering all the weight he's carrying around, his muscles are just way more developed than anybody else's.
How do you know how much adamantium weighs? 😜
Wolverine weights 300 pounds at 5 foot 6 inches tall. this 6 foot tall wolverine would be closer to 350 pounds. 195 is Logan. so the adamanitum would weigh around 150 pounds. imagine carrying 150 pounds everywhere with you. yeah his muscles are way denser as well as his tendons@@Amalekites
@@themissncomic wolvie is 5 feet 4 inches
@@basimali619 He was 5'4" but when Magneto pulled his adamantium out he eventually became 5'6". It was never explained in the comics, but the change occurred in all the marketing material that listed his height during that time.
@@LookAtThisRock ok 👍
Of course the guy should have broken his hand punching Wolverine's adamantium skull, but we'll let that slide because it's such an iconic scene.
Same thing I was thinking
@@CalmoOmlac like a head-on collision with cars is more impact?
A normal skull is also hard enough to break one's hand.
@@lgrace3874 depends on the placement--the facial plate is designed to break, and the temple is thin.
Ehh, it's not the same, since there were no equal force from head to fist.
I mean, it would probably hurt to hit, but not to the point of hand brake.
Fist against fist with equal or superior force? Now that would break a fist, since it's basically you hitting a stone wall.

THE guy who was literally born to be Wolverine in cinema, this role was waiting for Hugh Jackman, one of my favourite actors
I saw him in an interview where he said his wife didn't think he should take the role.
This movie, this first scene made me fall in love with H.J.
He's too tall. What if the hobbits had been six feet tall?
The guy who thought wolverine is like a wolf.
Wolverine is too good for the MCU
Well to bad because he’s joining it anyway
It's important to know how important the intro of a live-action Wolverine was, and how exciting it was to see this for the first time. Sure, there was a lot of concern on Hugh at the time (who?), but Bryan Singer nailed it in the direction of this scene.
not to tait
Except for the whole "It hurts every time" aspect. That's where either Jackman or the writer screwed up. The Wolverine I grew up with killed a bear in the woods (Wolverine #1 1982) and got his eye popped out in a bar fight (don't remember the issue). There is no "hurting every time" with him.
1:18 his wolf like mannerism is amazing to see, Hugh Jackman truly is the wolverine.
In other news, did you know wolverines are not wolves?
@@134679user haha you'd be surprised with how many people think wolverines and wolves are the same animal
What do you define as a wolf-like mannerism, anyway?
There is an interview where he says that he watched how wolfs behaved in order to play this role. The director then told him why didn't he research wolverines and he had no idea they really exist.
@Jerry "wolverine" is a nickname he earned in his early life in 19th century Canada. It has nothing to do with his mutant powers. Plus he is closely tied to wolves, because, in that same comic series (Wolverine the origins) he goes into self imposed exile with the wolves in the wilderness after a tragic accident (I won't spoil it for the ones who want to read it).
In other words, wolflike mannerism is definetely correct here.
Hugh Jackman was MOST Wolverine in the X-Men and then in Logan. Thats what makes it that much better. What starts well, ends well.
One hell of a scene and Jackman is still playing the role a 1/4 of a century later…
Talk about making an entrance and impact.
Gotta love the final little "thump kick" as he walks past. Kinda like "aszholz", lol.
FOR THOSE WONDERING : 0:56 He punched Wolverine in the Nose (cartilage). NOT adamantium. Consider it a “cushion”. Wolverine would go down too because that still hurts. Later as he went for the fist and got hit with Wolverine’s head, well, that’s the bad part 🤕
the idea that jackman felt he wasn't in good enough shape for the role in x-men 1... oh, hugh. you did good
I think it works for the character in this point of his life, he has no one and hasn't been looking after himself, it feels more real than if he was a huge jacked man here.

Even though Jackman's Wolverine isn't particularly comic accurate, especially his height 😅, hes still my personal favorite. Frankly I prefer this Wolverine to the comics, Jackman is just iconic
Exactly. What looks good on an animated show usually doesn’t look good in live action.
So glad they didn't cast a 5'3 actor just to keep accurate to the comics. No offence to short men but they are not intimidating. A live action Wolverine had to be a tall guy or it would just feel ridiculous imo.
@@peakdennis1But that’s the point of Wolverine tho being small but fucking intimidating that could tear u appart that’s a great contrast cuz in that movie they made Hugh look shorter then every one else to stay comics accurate.
@@deepthe2972 They never made him look shorter they just made him look the same height as the rest of the cast and they only did that in the first xmen film. After that they didn't bother doing it and it's made blatant how tall the guy is in every film.
@@peakdennis1 dude, the whole reason Wolverine was created to be short was because he's not meant to be the stereotypical 6'2 "intimidating" superhero like 99% of other characters are (Batman, Daredevil, etc). Marvel made Wolverine short while still being strong and feral to literally contrast that. Thats also why he literally became one of the 3 most popular Marvel characters before Hugh Jackman even played the role

He made up for it in the following movies though. The right trainer and food planned. 😊
It’s crazy to see him before he added all that mass.
he used steroids later.
I liked him more with this frame. He really had the strong working guy body, strong but without some over defined single muscles and with the right amount of body fat. Sad he went full steroids after
Now Hugh Jackman is a huge jacked man

It was at this moment in this movie a star is born, no one knew or heard about Hugh and then after X-men his career took off and sky rocketed and is one of the biggest names in Hollywood but Wolverine will always be the character that helped made him a big name
Logan was straight hustling at this scene. The audience would have at least notice any bruises or gashes, if he did sustained, of him at least healing right before their eyes.
Smoking his stogie hiding the healing in the poor light and smoke plus everyone is drunk so would notice fuck all anyway.
In the follow-up scene one of them says, "No man takes a beatin' like that without somethin' to show for it." Logan whispers back, "You lost your money. You keep it up and you'll lose something else!"
Back when there were occasional good movies made.
"Logan" was a spark of hope in an era of comedic relief superhero movies
Omg i miss my childhood so bad 😭😭😭
The first X-men movie was pretty good back in the day. I just wish the movie companies had a better understanding and appreciation of the source material. There are so many better stories that could have been told.
There are a lot shittier stories to tell too. It's not like comics aren't full of mountains of crap too. You didn't get the best but be grateful they didn't chose to recreate the worst either.
I honestly prefer his hair length here than in the later Fox X-Men movies like The Wolverine, DOFP, and Deadpool & Wolverine
This scene started it all for wolverine character on screen.

I'm excited to see The Wolverine again in Marvel Studios Deadpool 3 on September 6th (2024).
I can’t wait that long
Is this an alternate universe? I honestly thought he was dead in Logan
They're gonna nerf him. I know this for two reasons.
1. When it comes to badass characters like Wolverine, who drink, smoke and get into many fights, Marvel Studios wants to tone them down and make them more Whedon-esque. Ironically Whedon wrote the script to this one.
2. Even if Deadpool wasn't owned by Disney, considering his Unreliable Narrator persona, Wolverine, much like Colossus and Cable and Juggernaut will be like cartoon versions of their former selves.
@@Shanethefilmmaker They are not gonna nerf him, Hugh Jackman himself confirmed that his Wolverine will be more angrier and would hate Deadpool. Also, Shawn Levy said that we will see hardcore violence in the movie which we all know because Kevin Feige already confirmed it being R Rated.
@@garvitchauhan6265 They're gonna nerf him. They literally went so far as having Ryan Reynolds play both Deadpool and Juggernaut just so people could make memes about it. Wolverine's at least gonna get hurt a couple of times and any berserker fighting might get faked out at first. (You know, preparing to fight only for something to hit you mid rage.) And further evidence, it's not the first time Wolverine was nerfed in favour of Deadpool. The Deadpool video game literally has a moment where you spend 10 minutes slapping Wolverine while he's knocked out. Comics Wolverine wouldn't take that, Pre-Disney Fox Wolverine would castrate Deadpool before DP lays a hand on him, but Post-Disney Fox Wolverine? Nope.
Totally badass. A real great way to have a first appearance as the iconic Wolverine.

Just caught this - the guy attacks him later saying "No man takes a beating like that without a mark on 'em" (or something similar), yet at 1:26 you can clearly see bruises on his back and arm.
