Wood Turning a Big Vase

  • This is the first vase I woodturned with a gouge. I put a very green log on the lathe, so it made practicing very fun again. I decided to change the shape halfway through, and I'm glad I did. I wasn't liking the look, and hollowing it out would have been a pain.
    My tools:
    Starbond Glue: bit.ly/2RFrayA (Use discount code "cook" for 10% off!)

    Beautiful wood. Love the vase. What kind of wood is it? How thick is your base? I'm wondering if it will crack when drying.

      Thanks Suzette! It jacaranda. I have a big stash drying now haha. The base was maybe 3/4" thick, and very surprisingly it hasn't cracked in the 2 weeks since I made it

    • @CookWoodworks
      @CookWoodworks  Před 4 lety +1

      Mine is a Jet, and it's a good combo of quality and affordability. I'd start with a medium size lathe. A mini lathe is too small, and I'd only get a full size if you've tried it a few times and know for sure it's a long term hobby. But it's impossible not to get hooked!
