    Definitely a valid competitor in the realm of the Mavic Pro. Hoping for a few software updates soon to help make the choice between the two even harder.

      my 2 cents. .. awesome camera so clear and crisp and nothing extra needed as in filters etc. .. yes it had a few little bugs while flying and the flight time etc .. but these are all sorted with software updates this is a new drone and will get lots of updates from autel. this drone is very very capable of anything the mavic can do easily remember the mavic hd a few severe issues also from the start and still people are very nervy when they see a new update etc ..
      now what to do what to do buy it or wait ????
      but as always brilliant review and thanks { keeping you fit also dustin lol }

    My EVO just arrived as your video concluded! The EVO looks fantastic and will be an improvement over my XSP. I'm sure they'll improve the rear obstacle avoidance in future FW updates. I can't believe all the DJI shills in here knocking the EVO. It flew great and the active tracking worked super! Seems only the orbit mode was a bit jerky and that'll be easy enough to smooth out in future updates. I'm not sure how soon I'll review mine. There's so much to cover. Thanks for this thorough video!

      WTF GAMING When flying in urban areas, I've only gotten 1.2 miles away from the controller. Out in the country where there's less interference, I'm sure I would get a lot more distance. Also, I've been experimenting with different antenna positions. I fold my antennas out and up against the controller, then put my phone in the holder. Antennas in between the phone and controller has been the best so far.

    Hey Dustin great videos!!! Rear sensors are working and detecting you from more 10ft away as you can see from the green, then orange, then red lower radar display. It is not stopping by design, it is set to only warn you. I will be contacting Autel and ask them to switch it "avoid" the rear collision or at least give us the option to select "avoid" or "warn". All other sensor directions are designed to actually avoid the collision by making the drone stop.

  • @maineiac114
    @maineiac114 Před 6 lety +1

    From what I understand the avoidance sensor has a problem with vertical and small objects. Ie: It will still run into post and wires because there's not enough signal to bounce off of. I'ts good at avoiding walls, vehicles, flat surfaces or smashing into cliffs and if you try going faster on sport mode that shuts avoidance off .

    Three years later, but still valuable today. (Autel recently had some refurbished Evo 1s for sale. I'm in my mid-70s on a fixed income, and I have to buy what I can afford, not what's newest).
    I do always have to do a mental adjustment on some things. Here in the Mojave Desert, 5 - 15 mph isn't a windy day, it's the kind of calm day we look forward to when we get a break from the constant 30+ mph winds we live with.

    Interesting. No worse than the Mavic when it first came out (possibly better in some areas) but not quite as good as the Mavic pro now is.
    I don''t think it will be long at all before parity is achieved.
    Given the wind I was quite impressed with everything but the rear sensors _I think it is worth looking at that section with the video slowed down_...
    Were I in the market for such a quad I think that, on the basis of what I have seen so far, I'd still go for the known quantity that is the Mavic.
    That could change later.
    Great review as always

    Excellent video Dustin. Regarding the disparity between the performance of the front and rear sensors, I can't help but wonder if the Evo is indeed functioning as intended. The front sensors activated AND halted the aircraft, whereas the rear sensors activated (thus gave warning) but did not impede motion. The manual is somewhat vague in this area as it specifically describes front sensor operation and execution separate from the rear sensor. Is this intentional?

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  Před 6 lety +1

      Yes it is strange . Seems like if they can see the obstacle they should work in regular mode not only in beginner mode.

    ARE YOU TEST OBSTACLE AVOIDANCE SENSOR ? HOW IS IT WORKING ?

  • @karthurjr
    @karthurjr Před 6 lety +1

    Dustin, is there a yaw speed adjust? The X-Star Premium has this adjustment. Also, are you able to turn on and off the avoidance? Does the higher speed rate negate the avoidance? The reason for these ?s is because on first flights many times unfamiliarity can cause missed features. Not to knock you or the EVO, but consider?

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  Před 6 lety

      I did not see any adjustment for yaw speed. Yes you can turn off obstacle avoidance. I think this was a pretty realistic review of how it actually performed in these conditions out of the box. All I did was turn off beginner mode which apparently is the only mode rear OA is active in thus far.

    @mixchifius Před 6 lety +4

    Great review Dustin, I think you might be the most neutral drone reviewer, I think you mentioned Mavic less than anyone else and basically sang the praises and negatives of the EVO on it's own right, though you did mention it a bit. I feel a review should just be based on the item being reviewed and the comparisons left for actual comparison tests. Looking forward to your future reviews, specially would like to see how the video holds at a distance, not necessarily pushing it for miles but lets say how steady the image is at a mile or two. Good job, thank you.

    @fleigenschnitzel8144 Před 6 lety

    I actually liked the rear avoidance NOT stopping but just warning.
    I launched from my front porch to fly around the yard. The front OA prevented me from hitting the trees, fence and house but when it came time to land, it wouldn't get any closet than about 6 feet from the porch.and I didn't want to land in the dirt on my first flight. So I just turned around and backed onto the porch and landed at my feet. So, I hope that when they update and implement the rear "avoidance" function, I can turn it off easily from the Tx or phone (like one of the programmable buttons).

    • @DustinDunnill
      @DustinDunnill  Před 6 lety

      makes sense in that situation but you can manually turn off and on if you want in settings. I'd rather it work in all modes if possible and just turn of manually if needed.

    I got The Mavic Pro and it's doing well, except for some odd gimbal issues and sometimes recalibrating mid air. And some tilt.
    I kinda want to get this one just to see what others offer. The only thing it lacks that Mavic Pro has is the 3D Mapping Capabilities

    • @darrylw9017
      @darrylw9017 Před 5 lety

      Well not really the only thing it lacks.. IT also lacks all 3rd party support. That is there are many companies that have written software that can be used to accomplish just about everything under the sun for the Mavic. The EVO lacks all of that support. The upside of the EVO is the price and the absence of GEO - NFZ. IMO the Mavic is more refined than the EVO but the EVO is not far behind and can be flown anywhere you are dumb enough to fly.

    I want to see you do the range test on the side of the mountain with the small winding road. A great place to test the range where signal is minimally obstructed and radio interference is severely limited. Many range test videos I've watched so far seems to be inconsistent.

    The rear sensors work better in low light for some reason. Almost as good as the front sensors.

    No compass calibration? I've watched several videos and none are doing a compass calibration. Doesn't this Drone need it? How will it return to home?

    Try a slow yaw. Is it jerky like the Xstar?

    Looks awesome so far to me. I wonder if they can improve the rear sensors in a firmware update? Looking forward to more vids on it.

      back sensors are no collision avoidance, there are just detectors.

    I wonder if you might do a newer video regarding the EVO, since this video was made there have been some major updates and lots of flyers think it’s the best drone of 2018 ! I’m only bringing this up because there were many issues that have been fixed since it’s official release four months ago.
