I haven't fished salmon yet, but I fished big trout a lot, looks like Salmon and Trout are similar in chasing lures, the big brown trout I caught were mostly within 6feet from the shore, although I cast really far, like 30ft.

I always would catch them on a blue fox #6 as a kid , caught a 15 lb salmon in Sacramento River with it.

Hello, Vincent. When a salmon hits a jerkbait which hook do they usually bite? Tail? Head? Belly?

Usually it’s random but most of the time it’s middle or tail

The only salmon I've ever caught from shore was fooled by a Flying C.
I usually fish for salmon on the Mokelumne.
Will probably give the Sacramento a try this year.
Given our water issues, I'm curious as to what kind of salmon season we'll have this year.

Salmon don't bite too eat they bite cause the noise of the lure pisses them off

@@richardmcdonald3810 That's what "they" want you to think. Personally, I think the salmon are pissed because they've figured out that after having hot salmon sex they will die. One roll in the hay and you're dead. Sad.

Are there any rules for salmon fishing and are we allowed to keep them? I’m just getting started into salmon so I don’t know much. Also if the area is super deep does it affect using spinners or should I let it sink and then reel?

You are allowed to keep them. 2 per person. And yes if it’s deep let it sink for a bit then reel.

Remember to set your drag, when salmon hit they hit hard. If your drag is to tight the line will break fast. So long salmon!

Sacramento and Mokelumne rivers are open for salmon fishing.
San Joaquin river and all its tributaries are closed to salmon fishing.

@@fredclark9366 It appears that the cutoff is around the Antioch area. The CDFW says "Sacramento River from the Highway 113 bridge near Knights Landing to the Carquinez Bridge (includes Suisun Bay, Grizzly Bay and all tributary sloughs west of Highway 160)". HWY 160 runs over the Antioch Bridge, so maybe the bridge is the cutoff.
