Kelvin runs away from enemies and stays out of caves. He will follow you all around the map without getting hurt. You can give him a tracker like you did Legatha in case something does happen to him and you can restore his health/life as you do to each other when you “die.” There’s no harm in him following you around, especially since he can fetch fish from the river when you’re in need of food or track down other items from thin air it seems.
*TIP* If you’re exhausted and can’t sleep you can build up your energy slowly by building a stick chair and resting for a while.
I'm glad that Evan and Katlyn are not the archeologists responsible for deciphering real cave paintings. Lol

One way that Sons of the Forest is different form The Forest, is character strength progression. So doing things like swinging weapons and picking up logs and stones increases this progression. As the player progresses the total health of the player as well as the damage done to trees and enemies increases. So a player can progress either by building or by fighting, personally I find building to be overall a safer method of leveling the character.
Edit: You can view your character's strength level in the meter with a flexing arm right above the mini map.
So this no base challenge will definitely will promote exploration and could be seriously fun! but some of the caves and other areas will be easier to explore once you character has leveled up.
So much fun watching yall discover this awesome game and cant wait to see more!
one way to fully explore every nook of a cave system is to do a wallHug. stick to the left or right wall the entire time and sooner or later you're gonna have explored everything (in this game, not a general topology rule)

Nah there's one cave (won't spoil which one) that the wall hug rule doesn't work with because it loops on itself a few times (Yes it's the massive gigantic one with the [Redacted] and the [Redacted])

They both have the ability to switch screens, they just forget most of the time, essp in games that can be hectic.
I watch Brian Menard play this game also and the stark contrast between the two gameplays is crazy hilarious to me! E and K are chill, relaxed, explore, and prefer to walk everywhere. Brian uses the hang glider as his main transportation to wreak havoc on all the caves (and bunkers) all over the island!🤣

You never realize it, but in SOTF, you dont need a permanent base
It’s odd, the main goal of the game is to find all the equipment, use them to get to the ending, games over, or you could stay behind and have an excuse to find a spot for a permanent shelter

I don't know if it still works but you have to harvest the armor from the bad guys at the same time then you both get some. That's what me and my husband did. (I started watching the stream so if they do this at some point I'm sorry). Lol
I spend 3 hours building a nice base in SotF then went exploring. Never needed to go back home. It's a bit disappointing how useless the base is really. They give you a portable shelter and all the food you need. A weight limit would help I think.

I love the playthrough of SotF, but honestly, the caves are not fun to watch being explored. It's just too dark and messy. Not E&K's fault of course. But looking forward to base building!

How is this a challenge when it's easier? I did this solo unintentionally, and regretted it. I really like base building and felt like I got through the game too quickly by not slowing down and building. I really wouldn't call this a challenge if I were you.
It's a challenge to them because they'll get sidetracked an entire stream and build a base for 5 hours and not progress at all. It's what they like to do, but fans will complain sometimes, saying they don't explore enough or advance enough during streams. So, it's not really about you & what's "easier'.
So far, I feel like this game holds your hand way too much. Kelvin is basically an endless food glitch, you immediately get the ability to not only collect but carry water, you get a gun very early on, have a map and markers from the beginning, it seems like there'll be electricity soon... I stopped when you discovered the golf cart bc seriously?! Seems so much less challenging than the forest, which makes 'winning' feel like it's hardly earned.
true. i feel like the original forest made you work way harder for things, still fun to watch though imo
A lot of things arent marked on the map tho. And depending on where you spawn in the beginning, you might not find the gun until later on. Also, this game has seasons, and in winter Kelvin cant get fish. Theres a lot of settings you can change too, like loot respawning or not. You should keep watching :) Or find someone who plays on hardmode if thats your jam.
