I turned 66 today and still stocking up. Always finding something I need to add to. No vacation this summer because I lost my husband 3 months ago. Growing some of my favorite vegetables 😋 😊. Running our homestead on 3 acres. 😊 I love sweet banana peppers, refrigerator pickles 😋. Freezing okra.

I don't blanch zucchini either, just shred and freeze. Zucchini bread is a winner in this house!!
We do zucchini cookies too! Healthy enough for a grab-and-go breakfast.

We just moved last winter, so I randomly explore the property. I found a few berry patches!! Mulberry and raspberry!! I have already started foraging!!! Plus I put in a large-ish garden and brought strawberry plants to start a patch

Corn is July/august here in Tennessee. Strawberries was May but most was water logged, too much rain. Tomatoes will be July and August! Thanks 😊will definitely watch grocery for veggies from other parts of country.

Homemade gelato is my favorite. No need to make a custard and its so creamy. Some flavors we keep on roation are: Vanilla, green tea, chocolate, and saffron-rose. Yum! 😊

If you haven’t made peach fig preserves, do it…my absolute favorite!!! 😋 I prefer no to low sugar to let the fruits do their magic! 🤩
I have a slight advantage for frozen foods...my son is the manager of the frozen department in my local Albertsons and he often gives me a heads up when Tillamook ice cream and other novelties are going on sale 😊
I definitely want to watch for milk going on sale. I buy half gallon containers when they're 97 cents and pop them in the freezer for making yogurt.

Pattypan squash is a summer squash. I think of corn as late August crop.
Favorite fruit - Ranier cherries (a yearly splurge and I don't share) Favorite ice cream - anything full fat, cream and I'm not fussy. Dairy Queen blizzards are the bomb!
My favorite ice cream is something with lots of chunky cookies, nuts, brownies or peanut butter. Or all of those. Or Braum's.

We live in Western Colorado. We won’t be getting peaches, cherries or corn locally for a while. Last year, peaches and cherries were SO expensive!!! As with everywhere, if there’s a late freeze production is down & prices go up. We’ve had a REALLY late spring here. It’s June 1 and we were highs of 50’s just until the last 2 days. We bumped right up to high 70’s and creeping into the 80’s. Crazy!!!

We don’t do a ton of milk but use it for cooking and baking. I’m fortunate to have a freeze dryer and will definitely be freeze drying milk!!! Love your channel! 😊❤️

I’m picking my strawberries and mulberries right now. I will be making strawberry jam real soon. The mulberries are going in the freezer until I start to juice. My red and black raspberries will be coming at the end of the month.

Something I didn't know for years is that you need to rub oil on the rubber gasket every so often. It'll make it last longer. Best of luck!

I watched a special report that was talking about all the pesticides that the grocery store produce was loaded with. So, I'll only be getting mine from local organic farms.
I haven't planted my peppers or beans or cucumbers yet, we are finally getting some weather above 50 at night and a week from now they say we are going to be 90 degrees. This is the first year my whole garden has been in the ground.
My favorite ice cream? I love nuts, caramel, cookies, candy and all the stuff in mine, but my favorite is Italian Sweet Cream from Cold Stone.

Here in KY my strawberries are done. Black raspberries have been super prolific 6 qts pie filling 16 jars jelly made and 4 qts for cobbler in freezee. For the first time was able to sell extra to neighbors and friends. Will use that money to buy what i cant grow myself. Every little bit helps the budget. Blueberries are just starting and hoping for some peaches off my tree. First year for that. Love summer harvest time!

@@sandysmith8567 10 -10- 10 only when I can't get goat manure from a neighbor. We also trellis our rows and put down cardboard in the aisles to help control weeds and this helps hold in moisture. They like lots of water.
I have canned up about 60 pints of green beans the past couple of weeks. I dehydrated 32 pounds of strawberries , i currently have 4 bunches of organic bananas in dehydrated now. Hubby and i like dried fruit with nuts mix. I'll buy additional fruit to dehydrated and already dehydrated fruit. I keep in mylar bags in freezer. We just grab a bag when road tripping or want something a little sweet.

My favorite ice cream is hazelnut Gelato from my local Italian pastry shop. Hazelnuts are one of my favorite nuts.

For people living along the coast, it's hurricane preparedness time. Two good items you can find cheap at Wal-Mart are:
>GV ready rice (chicken, long grain white, long grain and wild, jasmine) for $1.12 each. At my local Wal-Mart, the current code date is early 2026.
>GV single serve chunk chicken meat pouches for $1.50 each. They're about 3 ounces each and have a late 2027 code date at my local Wal-Mart.
The reason why you want these items: RETORT PACKAGING. There's a reason why they use it for MRE's, namely that the packaging can stand up to just about anything. Packaging and size make them perfect for hurricane kits. Other retort package items I'm on the lookout for at Wal-Mart: Hereford roast beef with gravy. Hereford shredded beef in broth, Hereford meatballs in sauce. I've found them at Wal-Mart supercenters. Thing to know about Hereford: they have the manufacture date and best by date on the back of the package. Earlier this year, I picked up some pouches with a 2022 manufacture date and 2024 best by date, which lead me to wonder what is going on in the warehouse. if you find them with a 2026 code date, grab them.
Other Wal-Mart observations: Canned meat section is very thin. Lots of Spam and Vienna sausages. Light on canned chicken, turkey and beef. If you're able to stock up on cans that are not dented, it would be a very good idea to do so. I'm in the northeast US, and this is a big shift from what I've seen.

They had a late frost last year that hurt the peach harvest. I bought a bunch from The Peach Truck. I love green peaches in smoothies but not canned.
I am curious... Did anyone else call the independent drive-up ice cream place a Dairy Isle? That's what we called it in North Western Pa.

Great list, Leisa! I do mot blanch zucchini or yellow squash before freezing. I slice the yellow squash, freeze in qt bags. Cooks up nice with Vidalia onions or with butter and brown sugar. I freeze zucchini in chunks for use with sketty sauce or canned with tomatoes. Also have some freeze-dried for soups. Happy summer!❤

Where I live in Florida this is the time of year I have to order my frozen goodies from Kroger’s home delivery. It comes on a truck that keeps things frozen till it gets to my front door. The heat here is so bad and this year I have a feeling is gonna be horrible according to the hurricane predictions.

I’m born and raised in Wisconsin (and outside of a few surrounding states) it wasn’t until I was an adult and friends with people from so many different states when I realized just how much we use cheese compared to other places in the U.S... Like when I eat something and I’m in my head like, “This could use some shredded cheese” and then I realize one of my transplanted pal’s made it now I’m like, Oh ok, that makes sense. 😂
And conversely, it’s the same for them, when I make something and I’m like, you know what’s missing? Cheese. Or make something that they’d never imagined needed cheese And they just look at me like “Are you serious? Why??” lol. But it’s so true! We DO consume insane amounts of cheese!! (And I stand firmly by this decision to consume it bc it makes everything else better…. Cheese, sour cream, cream cheese… all of it. 😂)

How to preserve green beans
Corn is delicious but high carb so I eat fresh occasionally but don't stock it.
We've been getting most of the produce you mentioned like corn, blueberries, cucumbers and green beans for a couple months here in Florida. Oh and I can't forget the strawberries. South Carolina peaches started coming in a couple weeks ago. They are cheaper than last year by a good bit so hopefully it hold true for ya'll. I bought my blueberries, peaches and cucumbers by the case yesterday. Potatoes as well. They were only 10 bucks for 50 pounds. I wish I could ship some of the produce we get here to some of ya'll. But since its local it will go bad quick and it would never make the trip up north. Cherries are here and only 2.98 a pound but they don't get them for very long. I'm sure ya'll get them a little longer up there. Cherries and peaches are my favorite and wouldn't ya know they don't grow well in Florida lol. Oh yeah, last thing. For freezing my corn, I cut both ends off and vacuum seal it in the shucks and freeze it. You can cook it that way or let it defrost and take the shucks and silks off then cook it. Its very good like that. Thanks for all the things we need to look for.

Crookneck, yellow straight neck, patty pan, cucuzzi, lebanese zucchini which is lighter and less-watery than the black beauty we're familiar with, and zucchini comes in shapes. I usually do round in the community garden because the plant takes up less space.
I miss dairy. we found I had an allergy as an adult, so I had plenty of time to become acquainted with what I am missing.

Over here in Sweden, everything fruit, in store is unfortunately most of the time out of my budget. However, I do live out in the country on our small homestead and am surrounded by forest, where I forage for everything eatable. Blueberries, cranberries, all types of eatable mushrooms and more. Neighbors have prolific apple trees which they either don't know what to do with all the apples, or just plain don't care so, I go totally hog wild when the apples are ripe. Drove myself nearly off the edge of whatever sanity I have left last season, and I felt that it would be totally detrimental to everyone around me if anyone dared even say the word APPLE!! 😳🤯 I am happy that I was able to get through all the crates of them though, since my granddaughter which is now about 18 months old, LOVES applesauce along with the jelly and jams I make from both the apple cores and the wild berries.
I've finally planted some strawberry plants this year. Or, at least those that I could afford to buy. I've started a lot of strawberry seeds but have yet to see any start to sprout... 🤔
Anywho... No real sales started over here yet. Did have a good sale on chicken breasts a few weeks ago and I stocked up on about 16lbs, which I diced and pressure canned in pints.
I'm boring... my favorite ice creme is old fashioned real creme vanilla ice creme. Reason? I can flavor or top it with whatever I feel/crave and I'm good to go...😁
